  1. I don't know the amount of my technic parts - but it takes a half wall ca. 2x2 m only boxes, most of them are completely filled. And a whole shoe bag only pins (without bushes) an another bag only axles. And tons of wheels! *huh* I wonder what I'll do with all the wheels, I only use some of them.

My sorting method: The more I get parts of same type, I can use bigger boxes where I don't need to sort sort them by color, because at one point it's easy to find the necessary needed parts. Only rare parts I sort in separate small zip bags(like gears in other colors etc)

It's rare that I run out of parts, because after some time I disassemble the set to build something new. I simply don't have the place to stock sets/Moc's. But nevertheless; I have regulary to buy new parts to build a new moc, you have never the all the parts you really need. So it's true: You never have too much parts

  2. @afol1969: Do you have some kind of incomplete BI for us building at the weekend?

Which BI? From the GMK6400 with suspensions? They are complete, I've only to make some additional notes as Therion noticed that there are some building steps not very clear, but he didn't have any problems to build it.

Or you mean the crane without suspensions? I'm just on work to create BI for it too. From effermans' superstructure I've only the CAD file.

  3. It's now some years I build Technic models. The first set like the 9397 and the 8110 were complex to build, because it was new for me (pneumatics, PF). As I was young, I've built the first Technics set like the 853 etc. But today I search new challenges, because after built lost of the new sets, it becomes a routine. But now as I've got a very big amount of older technic parts, I have to build some older sets like the 8437, 8479, 8545....and I've planned to build the 8868 too. It's amazing how much complexity and lots of functions models can have with less special parts and studded bricks. I gegin to explore the 90's technic era, and it gives me more experience in building. And there were some special interesting sets like the control sets, racers, space shuttle, Bare Bode set....that makes me think that the 90's were an experimental era. That's I've missing today, the modern sets have more or less the same building process with over-simplified instructions.

  4. For example page 15 step 7. There's no callout which shows that you have to add 2 outriggers. (like step 8 on the same page)

edit: It's called "Add assembled image to parent page" in Lpub.

    Thanks!

I understand what you mean. Yes, it's not very clear when to connect some submodels to the main model. So, I've still to learn handling with LPUB  As all pictures are already exported, I don't want to make all new, it was to much work. But I'll reviev all again and make the necessary text notes. An instruction update will follow the next days.

    Greetings

  5. I'm not sure if I used the latest instructions (I think I am), but there were some minor errors, like for some submodels (the outriggers for example) you had to build them 4 times, but the 'times 4' was missing in the instructions (page 14), also 'times 2' was missing on page 114.

I know about this problem, and I don't know why LPUB doesn't show the times to build. But I can correct this manually by making a note.

Also, submodel-callouts were mostly missing, but that may have been intentional?

Can you show me an example? Some submodels are to big to figure as callout on the model page, that's why I made an own page for them.

And I replaced the red 2L axle below the cabin (page 62, step 6) with a black 3L axle, because the axle was too short when attaching the cabin.

I didn't have problems with a 2L axle. But your are right, it's too short. The best will be an 2.5L axle in black.

That's all I remember for now... no major errors anyway

    Thanks

  6. Just finished it last weekend:

    More pictures on my brickshelf

I had no problems using the 2L axles on the wheel hubs btw.

    Congratulations!

So I suppose that there aren't any errors in the instructions. But you're pictures have very good quality, so I'll take some of them for the instructions update; still on work with the Firgelli actuator.

And I've already on work to make the instructions for gerger's carrier without suspensions

  7. People spend hundreds of dollars on bricks, motors, etc for models and then do not want to pay what is a trivial cost to the creator of such incredible models??? That does not make any sense to me.

I can admit that I am not talented enough to create such incredible models but I certainly enjoy building and using them. I appreciate it immensely when precise building instructions are created so paying a fee is fine with me.

Please disregard comments from users like that because I am sure there are many like myself who appreciate the time it takes to produce them.

    Kind regards.

    Power1369

    Total agree.

What's the problem to spend 10-20$ on instructions if you spend lot of money in parts? I often see, that lot of people don't have an imagination how much time and work good instructions needs. :hmpf:

@M_Longer: Stunning and excellent model

  8. I've made an LDRAW Conversion of effermans' crane superstructure. From most LFX files 98% were correctly exported in LDRAW. I used the BI mode to control for missing or malplaced parts. It wasn't easy to combine the submodels to the whole construction as I don't know how to place them in exact position, especially for the counterweight. But I think it must be ok. Here is the result:

    big_superstructure.jpeg

The LDRAW file can be downloaded here: http://www.bricksafe.com/files/afol1969/Big_superstructure.mpd. The file is not stepped, only in separate submodels.

I've used LBG color for the counterweight, it brings more change in the construction color design, and I think, for make the building, it's easier to get/ have parts in LBG.

While making the LDRAW conversion, I noticed that efferman made an excellent work in design and function, so I think it's worth to build it - and maybe somebody will be a volunteer to make real BI .

  9. Happy new year all together :classic:

As I noticed that some people seem to have problems to find the Grove GMK6400 instructions, I post the links again in this thread.

    gerger_grove_gmk.jpg

    Instructions: http://www.bricksafe.com/files/afol1969/Instructions/GMK6400_1.2.pdf

    LDRAW file: http://www.bricksafe...ons/GMK6400.mpd

There are 3 separate part lists: carrier, superstructure, and the RC unit.

Note: in the superstructure part list there's a part in LG, which should be LBG of course. (Corrected, new file online)

Next time I'll make some boom lift tests with the Firgell actuator. If there will be successful, I'll include the modification in the instructions.

    Greetings

    Alex

  10. I now have found a 136 pages building instruction of the Groev Crane, But there is no parts list includid.

    Gr. JDL1967

The 136 pages instructions are them I've made from the gerger's Grove GMK6400. And there are 3 separate part lists included: carrier, superstructure, RC unit. See link above posted by efferman (post Nb. 261) The LDRAW file is available too.

    Greetings

    Alex

  11. DrJB: I have the Firgelli EV3 actuator. This one is not sold out. You should contact Firgelli to have them to change the normal gearbox with gearing ration 100:1 with an alternative gearbox with gearing ration 210:1. The original is not stong enough to lift the boom.

I am just waiting for a second original one hoping that 2 with gearing 100:1 can do the job. Otherwise I will have to purchase 2 new with alternative gearbox and just have the others placed in my stock.

I've one Firgelli actuator without alternative gearbox - I didn't know that it's probably to weak to lift the heavy boom. So should I order a second one? The problem is that I' to pay terrible shipping price with insurance, border control tax, etc that comes to ca. 50€. So I'd to pay a total of 100€ - and now I risk that the actuator cannot make the job to lift the boom! :wall: .

If someone has an actuator (without alternative gearbox) to sell, please contact me before I make a second order.

    Greetings
