  1. Love them!

You've inspired me to make my own ROM!

    What Legs did you use?

Do it! I had a bunch of alternate things going when making ROM, so I'd love to see what you come up with. I used the legs from the new CMF knight.

Awesome creations Repeter. Starfox is brilliant (so obscure).

Question; who has/is there flesh legs? I need Namor IN MY LIFE. Got a top half.

As you can tell from the quote above about ROM, I like the obscure characters from comic books. Starfox makes me feel 11yo again.

I wish we could find some plain flesh legs...so many characters would open up. This brings me to a question...what is purist? Is there a scale, like 'kinda purist'? Basically, I've tried to stick to the tenet of not adhering anything; no paint, stickers or glue. I'll give a list of examples, tell me if and how much they violate the purist credo:

    1. I had some mangled handcuffs that I trimmed down to make the gauntlets on my Black Widow.

    2. I trimmed a white cape to make a lab coat for my Lizard/Doc Conners...if it ever arrives in the mail.

    3. I want to remove some paint from legs (the example of Patrick's swimmy suit is a good one).

    4. I bought some colored dental rubber bands, which would be handy for gauntlets, belts and straps (is there even a list of official Lego brand rubberband colors?).

  2. Here is my latest batch. Again, I'm working with limited resources, so some parts will change as I get the pieces...Also, I still can't thank you all enough for the ideas. It's been fun putting these together and drawing on all of your great customs.

Havok and Kraven (Havok has other bits, but I like the white when he is chilling):

Grey Gargoyle and Morbious (had to figure out something for all these Batman capes):

I love you, Mary Jane...and Black Widow (would like new faces on both these gals):

The wily fellows, Starfox and Longshot:

Aaaand, just to follow in ReZourceful's footsteps, here is a group shot of my Marvel minifigs, sans Hulk and JJ, who were out having a beer at the time:

  3. I am sort of new to the Lego thing, especially liscensed stuff. Can anyone explain to me why DC or Marvel would restrict characters TLG can make? I can see if they had big plans for a character, but seeing how many Marvel characters show up in the Ultimate Spiderman cartoon, why wouldn't Marvel want Lego to go nuts? Am I an idiot to think DC/Marvel stuff would always sell well?

  4. @ Repeter, could you please reduce the pics size to 800 pixels maximum, as per our Member Guidelines? Thank you.

If you need help with re-sizing images, you can find an useful tutorial by following the link in my signature.

Sorry, LuxorV...I think I corrected to the right size now.

@Joker1: I love your Killer Croc.

@ReZourceman: I hear angels sing when you post pics. I also just ordered that same afro for that same dude a couple hours ago!

I just got back from the Lego store and got some small sets, just for the mini parts. I also hit up the 'make 3 minis for $10' thing. I have a bunch more figs to photo and post, which I'll do in the morning. I'm kinda obsessed...20 in 2 days.

  5. Those are awesome!

Great idea for Yellowjackets wings too!

I have some more to come, made The Wrecking Crew and Crimson Dynamo. I am working on Mandarin.

Thanks, you are the man with the purist Marvel stuff. Consider me a fan...and I hope you don't mind people blatantly copying you, with credit, of course.

Can't wait to see your new stuff, I love the Wrecking Crew and Crimson Dynamo!

  6. Wow, you people are very inspiring. As soon as I saw this thread, I knew I had to make some of my own and my mind has been occupied with what mini parts could combine to make what figs. Fairly insane, once you delve into some BrickLink research.

I don't have a very large selection of minifigs to butcher and this is my first stab at this purist thing, but suggestions are more than welcome. I am going to make some orders soon so any parts you think would improve my stuff, lemme know! As you can see, most of my ideas were totally ripped off from you fine folks here. Thanks for all the great stuff!

Scarlett Spider and a very loose interpretation of Dormammu (I have some ideas how to make this guy better, some chopping and a purple rubberband...but it wouldn't be purist anymore):

Sabertooth (I'd like to use Aang legs, but that mini is pricey in secondary market), Prof X and Cyclops:

Punisher (lol at his torso) , Crossbones and Winter Soldier (how to make hand better?!?):

    Lego003_zpsafbe9853.jpg

Wasp and Yellowjacket (he has a black visor that is hard to see):

    Lego001_zps3be2e872.jpg

Ras, just after nursing off the Lazarus T...Pit (eye roll here) and the all-too-easy Man-bat:

FYI, to anyone looking to make an awesome Taskmaster like the couple in this thread, that perfect torso is from the Viking line. I'm all over that. Where to get a white hood, though?

  7. That's his Mark 2 suit from the prelude comic. Tony takes away th War Machine armor and strips of all the Hammer tech off

Even if they don't give us the parts, it's easy to think of a couple purist custom methods to hook him back up with that sweet tech. I hope these sets come with lots of metallic silver parts, though. It'd be cool to match the color of the minifig.

  8. The Vamp Castle was a satisfying build. Enjoy it.

    *raises glass*

Cheers, brudda. ;) These Goose Island Nut Brown Ales are smooth. Sorry, I'm from Wisconsin, we take this stuff seriously. You are right about the castle...on bag four and beer two and loving it.

On topic, I've been watching the Ultimate Spidey cartoon while building tonight. I have grown to like it a lot (at first I was like, "Huh?") and think it offers a perfect blend of action and humor that fits Lego well. We should all buy multiple copies of the sets, even if to merely inflate the sales and insure more releases...lol, kidding, of course, but the toon does have a ton of characters to draw from.

  9. This was an interesting read, both confirming there are a lot of engineers interested in Lego and showing that Lego is fun for anyone--even a movie critic, lol!

I was a soldier for 10 years, but for the past decade, I have worked in a much...prettier field. I am a fashion photographer for one of the US's larger clothing retailer. Most of the time, when a sexy model in lingerie graces my set, I'd rather be building something out of Legos. I've worked in this candy store for too long.

I hope to apply my trade to Legos, starting this weekend. I have a number of MOCs to photo and post here, which I hope to have done by Sunday.

  10. Just picked up The Daily Bugle, Artic Batman Kerfluffle, and Sam Jackson Helps Spider-Man Fight Venom.

It's Friday night, there's beer in the fridge, and building to be done!

You just described last Friday night for me. This Friday? Vampyre Castle and the Ghost Train...although I may immediately rip both for MOCs. I love drinking and Legoing, lol.

  11. When someone's kids come over, I hope they want to play with my Legos. I would think they were weird kids if they didn't. That said, I have a couple sets I wouldn't let get roughed up, but there is plenty of others to play with: For example, my Monster Fighter vehicles and a big collection of loose bricks is open to anyone.

  12. I am newb around here, but GI Joe, RAH is definitely on my list of customs to get to. I'll most likely concentrate on Cobra stuff too. Thanks for 'evoking the warm fuzzies' in me. Some questions:

--will you be making a Wild Weasel for that Rattler?

--are your cobra troopers and/or your other Joes (assuming you have more) made with decals? I found a set online and have been thinking of using them. I haven't seen much Joe customization out there that wasn't decals, so I was wondering if anyone had done any machine printed Joe stuff?

Edit: Ok, seriously, I just saw some of your posts on Hisstank.com...I am jelly-man!! How did you do these? I must copy you (imitation is the purest form of flattery, y'know).

  13. Nice review.

I spent my New Year's Eve building this set, instead of partying and/or going out. Not one regret here and I'd bet a brah-zillion bucks (don't know what that translates into Euro or pounds) I had more fun than my friends.

As to the 'facade' feel of the set, I really like it. It gives two, distinct play areas that both look really spread out. It also lends itself to future MOC add-ons, which I two planned.

The interior details are a blast and even though I have seen some criticize Harley's bureau, I think it is those sort of details that show TLG's commitment to actually 'knowing' their product. Getting a little of Harley's origin story in the set is just very cool, imo.

  14. As if EB is only for Europeans!! The real question is do YOU know where Wisconsin is after a day of hard drinking?

    Welcome anyway Cheesehead.

Nice...and thanks for the welcome, folks!

@Darkdragon: I think I have it figured out. I'll be posting my Viaduct Hobo Camp and Dinner Dumpster Diving MOCs in the 'Town' section and my 2012 Batcave add-ons to the 'Liscenced' section. I'll do the photos over the next few days, so look out for them!

  15. Hey folks, I'm very new here and just loving this thread. I just wanted let you all know how inspired I am to do some super hero, purist customs of my own. I am a photographer by trade and have been involved in creating scenery and characters for tabletop gaming for the past 10yrs. I hope these skills come in handy!

Anyway, thank you for the ideas and keep 'em coming!

  16. Hey, everyone! I've been lurking these forums for a few weeks now and have really enjoyed the place. I thought joining up would be fun. Here is my little history:

--39yo, collected Legos since before mini-figs. My favorite set as a child was a space-theme moonbase thing, with a train!

--had a 'dark age' from late 80s to early 2000s, then again from 2002 until about 6months ago

--currently collecting DC and Marvel superheros, Monster Fighters, some CMFs and architechture sets and a few other things that strike my fancy (looking at you, modulars...)

--looking to get into some super hero themed, custom mini-figs. I like the purist route, but will probably have to use paint and/or decals at some point. I have 10+yrs in tabletop miniature painting to fall back on for this.

--I love MOCs and I am photographer by trade. Most of my MOCs are of random themes (Viaduct Hobo Camp is my latest, lol), however...where should I post these?

Well, thanks for looking, helping and all that jazz; really looking forward to spending some time on this site.
