How many Brick Separators do you own?

Hahaha That'd be a big keychain, but a very useful one. I think I have 5, though I may have more, all of them are grey. I don't know if i ever bought any on my own, maybe the first one. But as I absorbed my friends' lego collections I picked up more. I got a bunch of Mindstorms school kits from my friend's step-dad and there were at least 3 or 4 with that. That being said, at least one of them has gotten worn down from being over used and the other ones tend to migrate all over my apartment, so I wouldn't mind having more, especially if they were a cool color
  3. I guess this falls under Aquaraiders, though ti's a little silly. I won set 774, Crab Crusher at Brickworld this year, but I already had one copy of it put thogether and as awesome as it is, I didn't really need another giant submarine. But I couldn't bring myself to just dump the pieces into my collection, so I did an alternate build for hte set and came up with this, the Court of King Octopus The little crab is trying to see the King, but the King's enchanted Golem Guards are steadfast The king passes the time by being entertained by his pole-dancing Tentaclen slave and playing with his pet coral, Chester In case of danger the king can escape in his Getaway Throne thought he looks rather silly when doing so Just out side his court there is the skeleton of an Aquaraider who feel off his Underwater Speeder after colliding with this Junk Coral I hope you like it. I had a lot of fun putting it together More pictures on flickr

    LEGO Princesses

As for the height issue, it depends on the character. If it makes sense for them to wear a dress/skirt/apron/robe, then I'll give them the big slope, but if they need to be shorter I might use a combination of plates and a plain slope bricks to achieve the effect. I tend to prefer pants for my characters, but sometimes you've got no choice. All this talk about dresses reminded me of a custom one I painted a while back and never posted pics of. I just put it up in the Minifig Customization Forum.

    Painted Dress

Sandy's thread about dresses reminded me of this simple custom I did a while back.
  6. Just did this for fun I based it on this pic. Hope you like them.

    LEGO Princesses

Very cool. I have more of these than I realized at first. I've got 7, and I'll have 8 in the near future ( once I finally pick up MMV). I would like to get Trelawney, McGonagall and Leonora at some point, (can never have two many female figs) the Orc dress I'm less excited about. Now you could make an adaptation of "The Twelve Dancing Princesses"

10210 Imperial Flagship - UPCOMING SET!!!

What a great way to start off the weekend! I was sad to hear that Pirates was going on hiatus when they hadn't yet given us an Imperial ship, but this is beyond anything I expected. This is truly a great time to be an adult fan of lego (if I were a kid I'd be going crazy because I wouldn't have the money to buy even half the sets I would want). I'm very excited about the return of the sawfish as well (yes, I know it's in the advent calendar, but us in the states can't easily get our hands on that)

    REVIEW: 10199 Winter Toy Shop

Yes, in fact it's not a new piece, it was in the Agents Mobile Command Center according to Bricklink. I wouldn't be surprised. I am in love with this light already and I just got it last night. The red PF lights are okay, but they're not good for doing lights inside houses (though Dave and Stacey Sterling put them to great use in their World of Lights display at Brickworld this year). I want to make a whole winter village that lights up with these yellow lights. Simply delicious Thanks for the review. I was reading it on the bus last night on my way to the LEGO store and it certainly got me excited for it. I put it together last night and think it was a great build. Unlike some other sets, every part of the build was unique and interesting. great set (and decently priced in the states at least)

    LEGO Purism

After seeing the discussion this morning about a creation posted by the Brothers Brick that wasn't entirely made of LEGO it got me thinking about the phenomenon of LEGO purism. I was wondering what everyone here thought about it. So I've got a few questions for you all: 1) How do you define LEGO purity? What is allowed in a "pure" LEGO creation? Some things to consider are non-LEGO plastic elements (competitor brands and fan imitations) other non-LEGO materials (cloth sails, non-LEGO string, paper, cotton) , modified LEGO elements (cut, filed, painted or otherwise changed), stickers, specialized/<insert that tiresome argument> elements (BURPs, Bionicle pieces, chases and boat hulls etc.) and non-system themes (Belville/Scala, Duplo, Galidor, Clickts, etc.) 2) Are you a purist? That is, do your own creations live up to the purity standards you set forth in #1? 3) How do you feel about "impure" MOCs? Do you treat them differently? Avoid them all together? Treat them the same as any other MOC? I'll avoid answering my own questions for right now, so my own opinions don't overwhelm the start of this thread. Also, you should check out the LEGO purity quiz if you haven't done it before.
  11. This is releasing slightly behind schedule, but I think the extra time paid off. Let me know what you think!

Thanks! The music is called "Western Precinct" it's one of the royalty-free tracks that come with Soundtrack Pro.

Film: Meet Kazoo - Hole 7

Great animation as usual. I loved the truck driver rocking out to Ethan's song.

[Brick Flick] The Nightly News at Nine

The octopi would spin around and around and then New Block City would come crashing down. Oh you want a more detailed explanation? Well let's say that the city would be crushed by the sheer inanity of the machine. He clearly just needed another octopus (he only had 7)

Shipyard Shenanigans Ep. 1 "Last words, either way"

Nice little clip. There were a couple technical issues (camera bumps and light flickers), but otherwise good.
  16. After a crazy weekend I have completed a new animation. Go see it at ! Here are some stills from it to show of the different sets and creations I made for it. I may be posting some of these separately with more detailed shots in the next day of so, but right now I am too exhausted to take any more pictures. Hope you like it!

Green: A better Color for better building

This video has been re-released in it's proper context as part of my Nightly News at Nine series. Yes it's identical, but hopefully now it serves as a world-building vignette than just a stand alone video. And if a forum moderator sees this and moves it over to the Brick Flick forum I'd be much obliged.

    Carmen and Waldo

I recently spent $7 on a single lego piece (the red fedora) so I recreate my favorite villainess, Carmen Sandiego. I also recently recreated one of my favorite heroes as a child, Where's Waldo? And then I was thinking what a great couple they would make. I was not the first to think of it, ( this is the internet after all) but I still think they are happy together.

MOC: The Court of King Octopus

I'm not familiar with that song, so I can't say that it influenced the name. Unless it seeped in from the collective unconscious...

MOC: Micro Buildings Large and Small

For my latest animation I needed to build a bunch of microscale building so I could knock them down like dominoes. In doing so I built in several different "micro" scales. Notice that the building on the far right of one picture gets repeated in a smaller scale on the far left in the next picture. And then I put them all together because it's pretty. Hope you like them. You can read more about them on MOCpages.

    Some girls wear glasses

I was working on making minfigs of the Scooby Gang this evening and when I got to Velma I realized that I didn't have a female head with regular glasses. Crazy futuristic sunglasses? Sure! Quidditch Googles? Check! Tiny black mask that doesn't fall off of your face even when you are running across rooftops in full face make-up? Of course! And I grant that these are all important types of eyewear for any modern woman (and awesome heads which I am proud to own) but what about plain old, eyesight-enhancing glasses? I found this Trewlaney head But that is clearly an older woman. I eventually settled on this head, which is pretty gender neutral, but still Velma looks mannish. How have other people dealt with this issue? I know plenty of girls who wear glasses, and I don't know how I would make them into minifigs (something I do pretty commonly for my friends)

Yes, ROBOphelia's reporting style is purposefully a bit off-putting. She's a little out of touch with reality.

    There's Darkness Below

The top is nice and lush. That knight is in for a surprise though! It would be nice to see the goblins head on. Can't really see their faces in these shots. You say the mushrooms are from BrickForge, but I don't see them on their website.... Did they have these at BrickFair?

    Adult Collecting vs. Play

Very interesting thread. For me personally, I am in the hobby for the play. (That's not to say that my style of play hasn't changed since I was a kid.) I collect only in order so that I can have more pieces to play with. I'm am sad for everyone who feels they had lost the urge/ability to play. It's not too late! Today can be the day you take those sets of the shelves and make something happen! For me a lot of my play is very meticulous. I animate, so that's my way of telling stories with my creations these days, I bring them to life. I don't do as much of the battling type play, but even that was a small part of my lego experience as a kid. Building new MOCs is totally play and for me there's no better way to relax after a long day/week at work than to dive into the lego bins and start seeing what pieces/ideas I pull out. I also enjoy posing minifigs and consider that a form of play. My star destroyer is covered with dozens of minifigs in a variety of poses and situations. The one thing that bums me out is that my friends are not into lego like I am, so I don't have the same sort of communal play that I enjoyed so much as a kid. I occasionally will get them to help me out putting together a new set or in creating minifigs for crowd scenes etc. I had a lego party a little over a year ago that went pretty well. I had a bunch of new sets for people to help put together and I gave everyone who came a tiny set that they could take home. They could also use the pieces to build an alternate model and I gave a prize ( a bigger set) to the model I thought was coolest. It was a great time. I've been thinking about doing another one, but my current apartment does not have as much room for that kind of thing. But yeah, that was a bunch of 20 and 30 somethings and there was some definite play happening there.

Tripy 8 Bit LEGO Brick Music Video

I have my doubts as to whether the black and white parts where they are playing with the various consoles, and the very end where the different sprites are rotating and growing are actually done with lego, since those parts could easily be computer animation done with pixels that retain the lego proportions. Michel Gondry did that for parts of "Fell in Love with a Girl" too, it's hard to make everything 100% LEGO, but I don't think that takes away from the awesomeness of the rest of the movie. But I have no doubts that the rest of the video was made with real LEGO. If you look at the part when the rainbow arc is coming out of the ground and crashing down at the numbers if you watch the arc closely you can notice it shake slightly. This is because it's very hard to keep a structure like that perfectly still especially once you get past the half way point and the center of gravity is no longer above the place where the legos connect to the baseplate. If it was computer animated there'd be no reason to put those tiny shakes in. As for the two creators not looking like lego enthusiasts, well that's just a silly thing to say. It's not you can tell if someone is a lego fan just by looking at them (unless of course they are carrying a bag from the LEGO store or building a MOC or something). Also one of their older videos is also very heavily lego based, so I think it's safe to say these guys are lego fans.
