    Soon departing Platform 9¾!

This is the latest and greatest set from the @LEGO Harry Potter line that I had the pleasure of designing. This model also marks the official end of my journey as Design Lead - how fitting? - as I embark on new adventures into uncharted grounds! (well, I did so almost a year ago 😅, but you’ll only see what I’ve been cooking up next year!)

This is the most authentic and accurate LEGO version of the Hogwarts Express we’ve created to date. It was designed to fit approximately the scale of 1:32, to accommodate the rich level of detail (both inside and out!), while standing naturally next to our minifigures without haunting them with its impressive size! It has plenty of little things to be discovered, especially on the inside of the passenger car, and comes with not 1, not 2, but 3 light bricks!! 😂 I hope you’ll enjoy building and discovering this beauty if you ever get a chance!

This model was only made possible with the hard work and love of many of my colleagues, but I must name some of those that worked closer to me: Helene Desprets, Kerstin Bannert and Michelle Martinsen (packaging, communication and marketing), Patricia Andersen and Jeppe Mohr (project management), Peter Kjærgaard (graphic design), Jakob Nielsen (element design), Jette Storm (production masterdata), Michael Madsen (building instructions), Monika Fruergaard (model coaching) and finally Andrew Seenan, the new Design Lead, that got the final design through the approval process with our IP partners at Warner Brothers. We did it! 🥰

    Coming soon on August 31st!

So the new Design Lead of Harry Potter is Andrew Seenan, don't know if that we knew that already.

Q: Hi Marcos, I really like this new Hogwarts Express, it looks great, however I wonder at any point in the design process, did you consider making it slightly smaller and to be compatible with Lego train track? I understand the reasoning as a larger scale gives more room for the interiors, but did you try maybe 8 wide at any point which would work with train layouts? Or decide you wanted to go all out and made the tracks wider as well

A: quite early we’ve decided we wanted a different experience than the play theme version of the train, that we still have in the assortment. Besides, doing a steam train bigger than the ones we’ve done, but keeping the “big wheels” small enough to work with our tracks means doing it in the scale we’ve done before. You can’t really make bigger wheels and still have the engine run on all our types of curved tracks.

The Harry should have been the Harry that first gets on the train, not Diagon Alley Harry, doesn't make a ton of sense

I don't know if you have read the books and are confused by that, because those scene's in the books happen on different days, but in the film they happen on the same day, that's why Harry's wearing the same clothes in both scenes.

  3. I really like this set. The train is absolutely perfect, beyond every expectation. The platform is on the small side, but for what is there, instant recognizable and very detailed. I agree with most comments about the minifigs, who aren't very detailed: absence of legprinting, however the pics on the box are just renders.

I'm glad the leaked Lupin, does come with his usual hairpiece.

Has the WV set ever received a general release prior to October 1st, or right around there?  If it has, it must have been very early in the run.  All I can ever recall is the set releasing around October 1st, and if we're fortunate we get an early VIP release.  I for one will be very surprised (happily so) if we see a general release on September 1st - even if it's just in Europe.

Not a general release according to Brickset, which shows data between October 1st and October 4th. Mostly a VIP-early release mid September.

Yeah. It’s been previously rumoured that the set might be revealed on that day, and I think promobricks are hereby confirming it :classic:

Promobricks had now explained the meaning of there post, saying: ''There seems to be some confusion. The set will include a 8x16 printed tile featuring the ticket to Hogwarts. But the reveal should also be the August 16th."

Another instagram story from lego with "the magic is you" linking to a video of Luna's actress on the lego Harry Potter site - does this imply that we're getting the D2C reveal soon?

The link goes to this page. The text on that page literal says: "We’re getting ready to conjure up something rather magical. How magical? Just ask this Ravenclaw™ legend…" They will reveal something I think.

I’m sorry if this was mentioned already, I haven’t checked back in a while, but does anyone know 1) if the polybag w dumbledore and mini hogwarts is going to be made available to other retailers, outside of just being a Gwp? If I remember correctly this is usually the pattern past polybags like the hermionie one have followed 2) does each bag contain the same parts, even if they’re meant to make up the 8 diff parts of the castle? I noticed there were a lot of unused pieces in mine 3) does each bag have the same instructions? It only shows the instructions for the great hall section of the castle on mine 4) does anyone here have instructions for the other parts of the castle and 5) does anyone have a photo of all the parts put together?? Thank you in advance for any and all answers!

    1) Here in the Netherlands it is available through some retailers as well as in Germany. 2) Already Answered above.  3) Yes  4) You can find custom instructions for free online, made by @Micmac here.

    5) I don't know.

i am disappointed in the overall design. It’s too busy. How would this be automated like the first coaster? This one looks like it cannot run on its own because of the tower.

This video shows that you can do that. It runs continuously:
