  1. I've thought about building one before. But I wouldn't know how to make it work without a gyroscope. If you can do that with 100% Lego I'd be very impressed. Do you have a working prototype? A proof of concept of some sort?
  2. 10,000 supporters just now, seconds ago.
  3. I understand why people are disappointed, but I honestly think this project is a positive thing. I published an article about Purdue Pete on Brickset earlier, if anybody's interested.
  4. It's over 7,000 now, so they may just reach their goal. I also just noticed it's promoted on Purdue's homepage, and found the page likely being used at the kiosks, as well as their news article. Tim Courtney commented, too: "While the overwhelming majority of votes received are genuine, some have unfortunately signed up and voted using multiple throwaway accounts. This is not allowed. Any votes of this nature will be removed by our staff. Each account/vote must be tied to a real person via email address or social profile and we allow one vote per person."
  5. According to the comments I just read, they had multiple iPads set up at various, high-traffic locations around campus at kiosks. The project was published in the student newspaper and on Facebook calling for 10,000 votes in a 36 hour period, starting today. There appears to have been a few dozen fake accounts that voted earlier, but those were quickly reported and hardly made a real difference either way. The majority of supporters use their Facebook accounts. While it is disappointing that the vast majority of these people are only interested in this specific project, because it is of their mascot, I do believe this can be looked at as a positive thing because many more people have been exposed to Cuusoo who were previously unaware of such a thing. Surely many of these students had Lego growing up, so this may very well encourage those who have "outgrown" Lego to rediscover the hobby as an AFOL. Being young people who are more likely to use social media, I think sharing this project on Facebook, Twitter, etc. will have a positive effect for the Lego fan community.
  6. Mass emails were sent out and Purdue University's campus had tables setup for the students to support the project. At least, that's what I've read. I know there is at least an online campaign of some sort to get the students to vote for it. That's pretty obvious. There has been some heated discussion going on in the comments section. Most of the supporters are only supporting this submission, no others, which is unfortunate.

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

I bought a second set of Luke's Landspeeder (8092), because it was a good deal. I'll keep this one sealed and save it for now. There is a collectors edition pack? I hadn't noticed that... No, I was just browsing Barnes & Noble (a bookstore here in the US) and noticed many of their Lego books were on sale. I got them separately, for about $20 USD. I also got Sariel's book.
  8. Well, that's strange... I've been going to their website almost every day for a long time and I never got that until yesterday...
  9. Fantastic, thanks! Sorry, I misunderstood. I didn't realize you were simply copy/pasting individual posts and sending them on. For some reason I thought you could update the current database with parts of the old one, meaning you could resurrect an entire thread. I see now that is not the case. No worries. Thanks much for all the hard work!

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

I just bought the Battle for Geonosis set and noticed a couple Lego Star Wars books on sale, Character Encyclopedia and The Visual Dictionary, so I got those too.
  11. If I could please get these two, I would really appreciate it!
  12. I noticed the book at Barnes and Noble's website was on sale, so I ordered it. Looking forward to getting it soon.
  13. Fantastic design hrontos! I think that might be my favorite qualifying model so far
  14. For those who haven't noticed yet, a survey window pops up now when you support a project. That will give you an opportunity to make suggestions to make Cuusoo better.

[MOC] Giant Chess Star Wars episode 5 Hoth Theme

Great job! One of these days I'd like to start on a large detailed Star Wars chess set myself.

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

Came in today. Can anybody confirm these are the only three and no more will be released? I know I read somewhere that this will be it, but I've searched all over and can't find that information anywhere.
  17. Actually, that extra friction will make it even harder to steer. Here, I'll show you a video of my design. You can see that it turns fine when the truck is moving. But when it is sitting still the servo has a hard time turning the tracks. You can even hear it struggling. This is also a smaller track configuration, so any bigger would be harder on the servo.
  18. I agree with this. I think it's possible tracks could qualify. However, I think it's very possible the tracks as designed by Zblj1987 (and reddddoo) may exceed the allowable stress limits for the servo. The tracks are quite long, so there is a lot of surface area. The single servo must turn all four, which I think may be an issue. On a flat, smooth surface it would probably be okay. There wouldn't be much drag rotating the tracks. But on a surface with more friction, such as carpet for example, that will put a lot of stress on the servo. Especially if the truck is sitting in place. I actually built a track system myself. It's much simpler and smaller, since I only have track pieces from one excavator. With the reduced size it seemed to perform okay. But they're so small it doesn't fit the size of the chassis. The tracks by Zblj1987 do fit very well, but do they function as well? I'm not so sure. Another issue is how much the drivetrain is geared down. With the main track wheel being much smaller than the original tire diameter, it causes the speed to decrease significantly. Basically, I think Zblj1987's design looks fantastic and that it could possibly qualify under the set rules. However, functionality is a concern and may be the only reason it cannot be chosen. Many of the pictures, about half, will still not load for me either with Firefox. But with Chrome I am able to see every picture. I have not tried Internet Explorer.
  19. According to an email from Lego customer service, the first run of Minecraft was 10,000 units and it sold out within the first few weeks. It's since been in and out of stock, and they also told me they intend to meet consumer demand throughout the holidays. From what I've seen demand has been very strong, so I wouldn't be surprised if production was several times 10,000.
  20. I've been trying hard to promote some of the better projects online. I've also been talking to the owner of a popular Lego news website about starting a once a week article for Cuusoo submissions. If implemented, it will be like a pick of the week type of article, similar to what Brick Hero's blog has. I think it would possibly be a good idea for the front page of EB as well. There are a ton of ideas that deserve more attention and support, many of which are original and not intellectual property.
  21. A Lego minifigure is 1.5 inches tall. Let's say the average human height is 5'-6". That means, considering height only, not size, a Lego minifig is 1:44 scale. The mean radius of earth 6,371 km, or about 3,959 miles, so that's a diameter of about 7,918 miles with a surface area of about 196,939,900 square miles. That means a minifig scale earth at a scale of 1:44 would be about 180 miles wide, which is roughly the driving distancebetween New York City and Baltimore. The surface area is (4)pi90^2, which equals about 101,788 square miles. That's about the size of the state of Colorado. According to this calculator, it would take approximately 142 billion Lego bricks to cover a square mile, at a cost of 14.1 billion dollars (USD). So, for an entire Lego minifig scale earth, completely hollow, that would be about 14,453,896,000,000,000 Lego bricks. That's nearly 14.5 quadrillion. Which, at the current rate of production of about 19 billion Lego elements per year, would take about a million years to produce. It is also about 30,000 times the total number of bricks produced since the company was started. 14.5 quadrillion Lego bricks has an approximate retail value of nearly 1.5 quadrillion dollars. That's roughly 700 times the USD monetary base, or over 20 times the entire world's GDP.

What's your recent LEGO Star Wars Purchase?

Luke Skywalker's Landspeeder limited edition NYCC exclusive tin (one of 1,000). I already had Darth Maul’s Mini Sith Infiltrator from SDCC and Boba Fett's Mini Slave I from Star Wars Celebration VI. I've read somewhere that these three tins are a set and will be the only three made.

    Open again!

I've looked everywhere and can't seem to find an answer to this. I would very much like to have my comment window not automatically formatted. I found the "Toggle editing mode" button in the top left corner, but that disables all of the formatting buttons. I want to keep the formatting buttons enabled though. Basically, I'd like to have it the way it was prior to the update. I could not find a default setting in "My Settings" for this. Is it simply impossible?
  24. It's complete, to the best of my knowledge, except for the original post. It originally had errors, so I spent about an hour fixing those. It was in the Technic forum, started by Meatman, titled "Can someone explain How This guy got the New 2013 Grand Prix Racer already?"
