  1. The reason for that is because if the instructions did contain a parts list, then Cavegod's files and spreadsheet would not be of much use anymore and as the designer, that would not be fair to him if I replaced all of his files and spreadsheets

OK, I understand your point of view. But, this means that somebody who wants a good building instruction and only the parts list file will have to pay for your file and the ones of Cavegod :sceptic: . Honestly, I do not consider that this is a good deal.

  2. I suppose that the building instruction displays the inventory of the parts at the end : so, the parts list file gives the same information in a directy usable form if we want to buy the parts via bricklink :classic: .

For a MOC, I can hardly imagine that the building instruction is provided without such a parts file : I found particularly boring to have to write such a file by myself part by part when I know that you could get it into a few seconds from your MLCAD file using LDview :sceptic: . May I suggest that you ask Cavegod to allow you to generate this file  ?

Because, from my point of view, without this file, your building instruction looks clearly less interesting.

  3. Some people want everything for peanuts.

Considering the piece count (4634) and the price (£275) which is 6p per piece (excellent value by normal standards), and the ghosts/slimer, minifigs etc, it is decent value. How people can moan about the furniture having to be removed to fit the car is beyond me. It fits in there. Consider the furniture extra parts. If you want it bigger, then build your own. And I can guarantee unless you have special contacts, you will NOT get it anywhere near the size to fit the car and all similar furniture, AND get it the same price/cheaper.

I agree with you and I prefer also to have the building like it is (not bigger and more expensive). However, I consider that the car does not fit in because it is oversized. But, we can consider that the designer has managed to get enough room for satisfying people who wants absolutely to put the car into the building.

I like this set even if the build of the external walls looks repetitive.

  4. . Furthermore issues such as the ecto not being able to fit without removing some furnitures or that the doors cannot be open with the ecto inside are not good enough for the price they are asking.

Come on  , considering the size of the car and the size of the building, it was clear that the car is oversized and will need all room to go into it : it is only a commercial argument .

A building which fits with the car should be something like this :

  5. I wonder what will happen for the people who already have one? Will they issue a replacement parts pack to fix the issue? If it is too intensive of a redesign, that might be problematic.

In the past, they always provided a replacement pack : I would be disappointed if this would not be the case for Wall-e.

  6. Interesting piece of news from TLG Customer Service: I asked when the set will be available again at the European S@H and was informed that after complains about the head moving too freely, they recalled the product and are redesigning it. It should be available again in a few weeks. Considering that the previous "recall" of this set supposedly only concerned the US market and was a result of production quality problem with the hinge part that was only used at that market, it looks like this is a different issue. Maybe TLG decided to address the problem of the head rotating freely?...

Interesting if this is really that they will do because this freely spinning head is really annoying. I hope also that a correction will be available.

  7. Not too shabby! And the whole assemblage works even better when you remember that Pixar originated as a division of Lucasfilm.

Really  . You are right, Pixar comes from Lucasfilm.

Very nice! I really loved your C3 and R2 and this new BB8 fit's them perfectly. It's quite fantastic how accurate you managed to build them in sucn small scale. Applaus from my side ;)

    Thanks.

    They all look great!

    Thanks.

Great job! I especially like R2!

Thanks. Yes, R2 is also the one I prefer but I love all of them.

    Hi Dan,

love it, simple yet cute, good job ! You had the perfect piece for the eye, and the head is well designed, with nice curves. The round wings for the body match perfectly.

For R2 : couldn't you design a new head for it ? It's too blocky and the eye is far too small, I would rather prefer a more cartoon, recognisable one.

I took a look at your Flickr and was glad to see that you have continued to produce excellent work, amazing architecture MOCs and others, your Wall E is adorable. Sad not to be able to discuss about them on another forum, but that's another topic ;) .

What's your next MOC ? Brick on !

Hi gaut, It is always a pleasure to read your comments on my MOCs  .

I am also pleased to see that you like my recent creations and not only the one into the SW theme.

Concerning a new version of the head for R2, why not, but it is not so easy to get it round and to include all details.

I think I have ended the phases dedicated to Architectural cathedrals and mid size droids and I will have to look for something else.

You are right, Brick on  !

  8. Nice work! Both on BB-8 and the other droids. Just out of interest where did you get the printed dish for the eyepiece from?

    Thanks. It's a "Plate, Round 2 x 2 with Rounded Bottom and Headlight Pattern" ( http://alpha.brickli...?P=2654pb01#T=C ).

These look awesome! I like how you fit all the details!

    Thanks.

    You forgot someone....

Or not  . Johnny 5 is not a Disney character (to my knowledge).

Wow! They look awesome, and BB-8 is adorable!

    Thanks.

  9. The mid size series would not be complete without BB8

  10. Thanks.

Well, to give you an idea of the way the things are built, let me show you the virtual model of the cathedral without the soft axles

    Cathedral_sans_soft_axle.JPG

The 16 soft axles of the hyperbolic pilars are fixed on the two 24T white gears with 9 white Rubber Belts and are spread by the 4x4 round plate on top.

Under the two lower pulleys, a trans blue 10x10x4 octogonal windscreen ( http://alpha.brickli...page?P=2598#T=C ) makes the top of the glass dome.

The lower part of the dome is made using 16 trans light blue electric zigzag ( http://alpha.brickli...P=59233pb01#T=C ) and small blue or trans blue parts.

Finally, in order to have thinner pilars near the ground, the soft axles are extended by white hose nozzle ( http://alpha.brickli...age?P=60849#T=C ) up into the circular water pool.

Well, now you know all the secrets of this MOC  .

  11. After two middle age gothic cathedrals (Notre Dame de Paris and Notre Dame de Strasbourg), I present you a more modern one : the world famous Metropolitan Cathedral of Brasilia designed by the brasilian architect Oscar Niemeyer.
