    Review: 7914 Mandalorian battlepack

I was opening my Mando battlepack the other day and noticed that the head stud of one out of the four head pieces was filled in, instead of the normal hollow "peace sign" pattern. I'm wonder if this will become mainstream and why this set is the first and seemingly only one to have this... -Derek Oh, and on a side note, the Mandalorian faces totally look like Christopher Walken...

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Pictures & Rumors

That would be kinda cool- take the mask part and put it under the head like a beard, and the helmet on top of the head.
  3. I agree. I love the sets and I think most of them are reasonably priced, but I really don't think I can bring myself to buy one of the spinner packs. If you buy most of the sets, you can easily get all the figures and accessories for a decent value, whereas you could spend 80-someodd dollars just to get all the character spinners. If I even get one of the spinners, it will definitely be from one of the "Special Edition" sets that includes them. We can complain all we want about the price, but when nobody buys the spinners Lego will realize their mistake. I think $7.50 would be a reasonable price for them (still a bit steep, but 25% cheaper). -Derek

    Modular Building 2011

But as for these clues, I really think they might be coincidental. If you look at two differnt things hard enough, of course you are going to find similarities. Maybe the connections between the modular sets are little Easter Eggs by the designers, but I don't think that they are "rules"... -Derek

Hmmm. For some reason, I don't think that's the new modular... If it is, I don't think I'll be too happy... -Derek

    UCS Imperial Landing Craft

Whoah! That is really cool! I love how seamlessly you've made the curved body! Amazing. But I can't help but comment on the hugeness of the pictures...I've uploaded pictures half that size and have been chastised by handfuls of people. And here is one that's much, much larger and it gets frontpaged? Anyways, great MOC! -Derek
  7. Wow this is an old thread. Whatever, the topic's always relevant... But I have the absoulte BEST solution to dusting. I swear that these things (Swiffer Dusters) work miracles on Lego. They are magical- they literally remove virtually ALL dust and are really soft so they don't leave scratches like a toothbush would. They have these little microfiber things that the dust just clings to. I'm telling you that this is THE solution. -Derek P.S. No, Swiffer isn't paying me anything, I just swear by these things.!

    Harry Potter 2011 Discussion

There is no arguing that JK Rowling is one of, if not, THE best fiction writes of our generation. To have someone else take over the beloved world she created for the sake of profit would be outrageous. In my humble opinion, Star Wars is different. They were movies, still loved by many, but do not have the "special connection" that books make. For the most part, most Star Wars spin-off and Expanded Universe projects are successful and generally well-recieved. However, most of them (notably Clone Wars) were created to make profits, which is something Jo Rowling has never done. Off-topic rant is over. I'm still excited for these new sets and am praying there will be more. The movies will be relevant well into 2012, around when the DVD of the 2nd part of DH will probably be released. This Christmas, Harry Potter Lego was one of the best-sellers and I think Lego took note of that. Hopefully they will capitalize on that, even if it goes against everything I wrote above . -Derek

    MOC: Cad Bane's Swamp Speeder

Great MOC! I just wish Lego would give us more Hutts...they are one of my favorite SW creatures and we are long overdue for an updated Jabba... -Derek
  10. I'm trying to stop caring what other people think about it. For the most part, when I tell people I know, they tease me about it, but they generally think it's pretty interesting. And as for the cashier at Target, I really don't give a damn what they think. I have a part time job as a grocery store cashier and once you have a customer buy condoms and cornbread as their only two items, you realize a Lego set is nothing to judge a person about... -Derek

    2011 Atlantis sets

Since the two larger sets haven't been released in the US yet, I doubt they are going to be until summer... It was the same thing that Lego did with Power Miners this year...

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Pictures & Rumors

Holy cow! It looks like 2011 is one of the best years EVER as far as SW figures go! So many great new figures, especially Episode 1 characters and Jedi! I'm also glad to get a Ventress in a smaller set because I've always wanted her but couldn't bring myself to buy the Republic Gunship. After 2011, Lego is going to run out of Jedi figures to make... -Derek (P.S.- I'm willing to bet on Endor battle packs for 2012 )

    Harry Potter 2011 Discussion

I'm really excited that we are getting more Harry Potter sets. I'm guessing these price ranges for the sets- Forbidden Forrest- $10-20 Knight Bus- $30-50 Battle for Hogwarts- $80+ I'm most excited for the Battle for Hogwarts. I can see it featuring another part of the castle, possibly the courtyard, and of course a ton of figures- I would need at least 15 to be a respectable "battle." I'm guessing any or all of these for figures -Harry -Voldie -Neville -Bellatrix -Luna (hopefully in school uniform...) -Lupin -Tonks -Snape -Draco -McGonagall -Trelawney -Slughorn -Bill Weasley -Fleur -Assorted Death Eaters- (Yaxley, Carrows, etc.) Even though we will undoubtedly get Harry, I'm hoping they will leave out Ron and Hermione in the Hogwarts set so there is room for other figures. I'm really excited! -Derek

    Harry Potter 2010 discussion thread

The Burrow is one of my all-time favorite Lego sets. I highly recommended it; everything about it is fantastic- the pieces, the design, the figures, the accessories...I could go on and on.
  18. Yeah, you probably are. If it's bothering you, don't read this thread... But I seriously think that Time-Cruisers was an excuse for Lego to get rid of parts from themes, even though it's execution was pretty ridiculous ...(look no further than this set for example of the theme's trippiness) Either the sets sold well, or Lego was adamant on using this method of getting rid of overstock of pieces, but Time-Cruisers was given a second year in 1997. I've never owned any of the sets, but judging from pictures, the bad guys in the second wave from '97 remind me of Nazis... Ninjago is a completely new concept for Lego. They must be trying to ride on their successes of the Games series and Collectible Figures and combine the two into one. The theme has traditional brick-built sets, but also offers collectible spinners, cards and a game that can be played with them. I personally think the whole theme concept is brilliant from a marketing perspective, but I would have executed it differently than featuring multicolored ninjas battling undead, motorcycle-riding, boot-wearing, Nazi-esque skeletons . Just my two cents . -Derek

The airplane set is the 2011 airline promotional set, meaning 98% of Lego fans probably won't have direct access to it...

    2011 Atlantis sets

Good question. It's also what most of us said about Power Miners last year... Maybe I'm wrong, but just don't be too surprised if that's what happens...

    2011 Atlantis sets

I'm starting to wonder if the two larger Atlantis sets are going to be released in the US during the second half of the year. Lego did the same approach with Power Miners this year- release the couple smallest sets for the first half and then wait with the 2 next biggest ones. I don't think there has been any sign of these anywhere yet in the US and most of the non-licensed sets are out already. -Derek

    REVIEW: 30062 Target Practice

This looks like a fantastic little set! Great pieces, especially for a set so small! I will definitely buy multiples if I see it (I hope I do! ) Thanks for the review! :) -Derek
  24. It's official. Lego wants me to be poor. I think this is the most solid series to date. Absolutely NONE of these are "throwaway figures" a la Series 2's Ringmaster. Even the repeat variations of the skater and surfer manage to be awesome! Favorites are the gnome, Hazmat guy, and Artist. Was not expecting this when I logged on! -Derek P.S. What is the blond, Willie Scott looking chick in the top right supposed to be? Either way, she looks nice.

LEGO Star Wars 2011 Pictures & Rumors

I think there have been some even older than nine years, which isn't terribly long in the scheme of things. Lego broke out the Gungan mold for the first wave of 2011, the Sebulba one is the same age. If Lego must give us the old Sebulba, I hope it's painted, because it is basically a stiff figurine as far as I'm concerned. -Derek
