  1. Hi everyone. I just finished my version of LR13000. My goal was to have a working derrick boom with floating ballast. Total 10 motors, 3 hubs, both track has two drives, turntable motor is now belongs to the top structure. I started with the fullest design but it was way too tall for my apartement (210cm). So I have reduced the jib by two elements and the main boom by one. Unfortunately the whole boom is light so having bigger spanner holder ?boom? or whatewere the name of what the cylinders hold is not possible in order to keep the boom's center of gravity in front of the superstructure connection. What is more than two sets: few 2L nad 8L axles, few bushings and the four cylinder (there are two at the A frame of derrick boom tilt control) Now comes the programing, two tilt sensor required for the derrick and main boom then the balancing is going to be automatic and will be playable (nut sure how much fun it will be as it is very sensitive and complex). Details - the cylinders are only for visuals. Here is the max size:

  3. thats my plan, with automatic selfbalancing :) I wanna finish first the original's programming then comes the new desing. Im trying to relay only on two sets, max 5-10 other parts only. Will share the design and progress, hopefully as MOC indeed, I messed it up. But I assembled it without any problem so I dont knwo where I used the longer ones :D
  4. Hi all, I have decreased the play of the turntable today together with the turntable gear ratio update. Originaly it was 1/35. Now it is 1/63. For decreasing the play you will need 2pcs of 4L axle. Ratio change: 1pc 8T gear and 2pcs 24T gears. 2nd: gear update with 25years old parts :D And here is where LEGO failed. 3L axle was used insted of 4L, see how big is the play 3: change the brown 3L axles to 4L (you can see the black axle sitting in the yellow link) 4: Elemination of top side play due to way too big clearance Solution: 4-5 layer duct tape each side: These steps reduced the total play of turntable by 50%.

  6. OS independent. You will have to do the programing based on a written guide with full of pictures and megasized picture about the whole program segment.
  7. V0 of custom control in powered up is finished 98% and it took around 100h. It is optimized and nothing runs if not necessary (funny how easy to overload the ipad powered up and getting ticking movements only). Its gonna be available after a real programing expert checked and other optimization is done so after version 1 or 2 (in few weeks max) This is the GUI of it 0: Track control (tank like where x max or min means opposite 100% power driven tracks) 2: Turntable 3: Boom control (same layout like the ctrl+, but smooth as possible compared to control+ so stick at 5H50MIN end position is not full gas of main boom but around 10% and full gas of jib) 5: Lifiting cable 6: Plays sound when calibration done 9: Calibration start (end position search) 91: Turns 1 when calibration done. When it is done all six drive is unlocked and free to play. Booms and lifting cable only works between the working range. 93: Booms and lifting cable go back to the position where the crane was turned on after calibration is done. 99: Free play - lets you without calibration and without range control of cables. 20: Press when turntable is paralell with the tracks. This unlocks higher load limit. After pressing it gives you 20% more load limit when the turntable is at 0 or 180degrees, and goes down to original when it reaches 90 or 270 so the load and the limit becomes turntable rotation dependent. The footprint of the the track is not a square but a rectangle. Works exactly like in the control+ after this calibration. 21: Actual load in % 22: Play sound while overload constantly until load goes below than 100%. The programming description will gives you instruction how to change the sticks to slidebars. Programming the range control and calibration would be optional but highly recommended if stick control is chosen because it is really hard to move your fingers only along the X or Y axis while the other remains 0. It will gives you instruction how to measure the cable length while creating the calibration sequence and while you try it first you have to measure the max rotation of each drives with full winching. Optionally I can give you instructions how to change the tank like control to match it with the real life like so xmin or xmax means 50% of power and opposite rotation of tracks. Next is to eleminate those ranges where the drives are not strong enough to drive the turntable and especially the tracks so doing some kind of saturation of the sticks/sliders.
  8. Yep, mine does it too, especially on a carpet. Tried to remove one piece but then it is way too tense and broke itself. Got it a bit tensed with additional lego parts but nothing. Problem is the motor strong enough + chain is flexible in each direction + chain is loose therefore it cannot pull it from the top side to make it tense on the bottom while running reverse. Only way is to convert it to four sprockets driven. Anyway Im close to get the final version of the custom controll app, and the tank like one stick control now works like a real tank. Way mich enjoyable. I have to set up some kind of characteristic of the stick as the tracks does not move under 50% speed.
  9. I will explain how to create simple control without calibration function in the forthcoming documentation What I'm going to do is two program: first calibration (it is not a must if you have original set, but advised, and must when you changed cable lengt's). This will give you 3 values: the working range of the 3 whinches motors. The second app is a copy of the first, and sligthly modified: This would know the working range, and befor allowing to play with the booms, a quick - and faster than control+) calibration comes, which finds the end position, stores it, then the booms go back to the initial position where you started the program (optional). My weight measurment sequence now works properly, and now it is dependent of the turntable position, like at the control+ app. As the crawler footrpint is not a square but a rectangle, the allowed weight is higher when it faces front or backwars. The lowest is when it is rotated 90 or 270deg. I'm going to add a 0-100 current load indicator to the screen as well which is better than the bar like stuff in control+ Due to the mentioned position reset after restart I'm going to set the limit to the smallest until a button is not pressed when the turntable is in 0 or 180deg position. (calibration again, and it is optional).
  10. If the load measurment would work I imagined I will finish in few days then comes the documentation. Other features work now. I will show how to drive he track with joystic as well.
  11. Sure. Lego did not release the parameters of the original, so I made the program measuring how much rotation is a full calibration, then the result is the working range of motor. only one limitation: each time you turn on the hub the motors position values reseted to 0. This means each play requires a quick calibration. I can make it to go back to the initial position from where you started the calibration.
  12. Im planning a release of the powered up app version of the crane control, with adjustable control panel includeing calibration when I figured out how to do it. Would there be demand for it? So far the calibration sequence works. Next is to limit the movement of a motor between two limit position. Then comes the weight counter an some kind of sound warning of overload.
  13. Please dont get offended, it wasnt my intention. I truly recommend to observe the real crane for future improvement. For example please do not change the way of cable routing at the top of main boom and rotation of jib boom. The spanner should connect to the top of main boom like in the original set. Of course it is just a lego and you cant apply way too much load but every connection has its mechanical/statical reason :)
  14. I see 5 available, but im living in Europe. 650usd is expensiver then the 470€ price at the german amazon.com (but same like what we have in Hungary due to the worst inflation in EU so Lego prices considering this) But I guess it is manufactured in Europe so everything what goes to overseas includes customos With all due respect I see no similiarity if you do not count the extension which is not rocket science. Get a better knowledge about how the real lr13000 works with suspended derrick ballast, then read again what I have written about the automatization etc.
  15. Thanks for the hint! Really appreciated! Fortunately it was a well spent time, I needed it to remember better about the whole design, the assemebly structure (groups) are for redesigning and according to my taste so I can mod it I plan to do a fully automatically self balancing version with working derrick boom and height adjusted floating Derrick ballast. If it works as planned I plan to make instruction of the rebuild and how to recreate the control system in the Powered up app. I have a friend who is one of the best hardware designer in my country and he checked the possibilities of the app and drives and hub and it can be done. Plan is to control the extented main boom and power jib like now but in the background the balancing will work automatically depending on the boom position and lifiting load. I have to lift the ballast with cable instead of pneumatics or actuator as there are no enoguh long of them… then comes the 4 wheel drive and each side’s two motors gonna be controlled by their measured torque so no jump of the caterpillar. Planning to move the turntable drive to the top frame and supply from a top hub. Of course changing the 7 gear ratio to 20-30. Boom moving cable ratio to be changed from 5 to 7 or 9 I’ll keep you updated
