  1. 10 years on, the Buggoid swarm’s plan to expand throughout the galaxy continues to be thwarted by the Galaxy Squad Corps. However, intel from Blue Squad scoutings and and increasing number of failed missions have been building up proof of the emergence of a new creature from their hives.

Subject T.B.E-1, Nicknamed “Void Swarmer” for its sudden and invasive appearances, stands out as an unmanned insectoid flyer, with large pincers and sharp spiked legs.
Its thorax is covered by the signature bug carapace armor and features 2 pairs of wings, with an unknown type of techno-organic propulsive system on the forewings.

53425465099_5f3a661a7c_c.jpgT.B.E-1: Void Swarmer by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

The underside of T.B.E-1 features a valved opening and vestigial arms, with the function of holding and weaving victims into cocoons, suggesting the presence of an internal organ that produces said material - these cocoons then either get planted or stored in its abdomen.

53427543689_c8e9860c14_c.jpgT.B.E-1: Void Swarmer by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

The abdomen is capable of storing up to 4 cocoons, and are protected by lateral elytra; some intel indicates that several have been spotted carrying an insectoid egg - it is unknown if this is a self-defense mechanism or has resources that help speed up the hatching process.
Command hopes that the newest set of Tech-NIK Corp. models will aid in pushing back against this new bio-engineered beast, along with providing more information about these species, to prevent any further evolution and expansion.

And so ends my Galaxy Squad 10th anniversary update series! I'm hoping to buy the parts in this new year to make these IRL and display them at shows.

  2. 10 years on, the fight of the Galaxy Squad Corps against the Buggoid swarm rages on.
Over the years the Corps have upgraded their machinery to repel the increasing enemy forces, and in 2023 the Tech-NIK Corporation produced a brand-new upgraded line-up of vehicles to assist in their fight.

The Red Squad’s speedy streak continues with the GS-R “Viper” Orbital Velocity Striker, a unique starfighter model developed for a variety of missions, ranging from rapid strikes to rescue ops, including a recovery bay behind the pilot’s seat, and clamps to secure cocoons to the lower fuselage, where cryo-plates slow the harvesting process to improve chances of survival.

53369397996_129965a509_c.jpgNoVVember 2023: GS-R "Viper" by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

Tech-NIK’s U-JT joint tech is in full use here, allowing the dual engine & blaster units to rotate for maximum maneuverability & control in space.
This transformative technology was developed with their biggest attempt to integrate the AI Assistant Robot drone with the new model range, as the Red AI drone is fully capable of taking control of the ship for close quarters combat, allowing the Red Squad pilot to focus on rescue missions or additional firepower support.

53373061906_9407c7f351_c.jpgNoVVember 2023: GS-R "Viper" by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr
The drone is still able to disengage from the ship and function as a speeder drone for fast retrieval or hit & run missions.

I've been so busy with work that I forgot to post it here right at the end of Novvember - The Upgraded Galaxy Squad is now complete, but they still need a threat to fight soon...

With a heavy focus on offensive capabilities, the GS-O “Arcangelo” Armored Suit unit was uniquely developed for the Orange Squad to improve the mobility of their defensive/offensive capabilities, pushing to the limit the range of Tech-NIK Corp’s R-T Heavy Load joint system in conjunction with tube armor framing, a practical design choice from a previous model.

53286273195_a6f47e2734_c.jpgMechtober 2023: GS-O "Arcangelo" by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

Their PI-O Modular Connection system is also in use here to equip the suit with Railgun and Electro-blade attachments, on top of the shoulder mounted rocket pods, with more modules in development to provide support for a wider range of missions.

53288435388_50139067bb_c.jpgMechtober 2023: GS-O "Arcangelo" by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

Where it lacks in aerial mobility the AI Assistant makes up for it, with the brain module inserted into a Flying Wing drone, able to integrate onto the Arcangelo’s shoulders to provide additional armor and visual feedback from the head unit, as well as improved transport capabilities thanks to its VTOL thruster units.

Continuing my Galaxy Squad series with Orange Squad and Mechtober, now with the Red Squad left (Novvember), and ending the year with an insectoid...

I like the relief carvings you created in the Mesoamerican style. Quite fitting for the design.

Thanks! it was one of my favourite parts to work on, especially as the top 2 ones (t-rex megatron and optimus primal) are a fun combination of SNOT and upside down techniques.

Love it! Always great to see some transformers love. How does this scale with 10302? It works well with the Studio Series figures apparently.

Oh yeah it was definitely meant for studio series/generations figures, especially now that they're delving more into beast wars stuff. I still don't have 10302, but I've been told he's a tall one, so I wouldn't be surprised if he stood up all the way to the top of the walls.

  5. I wasn't sure where to put it exactly, but since it's related to Transformers I guess it can go here.

Millennia ago, a civilisation witnessed the wars between beasts over a mysterious golden disk, an artefact said to contain secrets of ancient past…and far future.

They safeguarded the shining “disco del sol” in a temple deep in the jungles, hidden from the tyrannical jaws of evil. With it, they carved into its walls the legend of these brave and fearsome beast machines.

With the passing of time the civilisation fell, and with it the whereabouts of the temple.

53171095061_2dcbb6c0cf_c.jpg[MOC] Temple of the Golden Sun Disk by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

Now, it has been found again, and various faces of good and evil are on the verge of clashing for its power again…

This is the first of my shelf dioramas made for my Transformers!
My idea started when I was quickly running out of space for the few shelves in my Kallax unit I’d allocated for transformers when I got back into them some years ago - what started as a raised platform eventually got to the idea of a diorama scene that works for photoshoots as well.

The recent Rise of The Beasts was the main inspiration because I liked the idea of mixing the Beast Wars story with the various Mesoamerican civilisations, most notably integrating the Golden Disk from the show with the Mayan/Inca disks, and carved/built wall murals of the maximals and predacons (can you guess which ones are on each column?).

  6. For the "vehicles and mounts" category of TTV's GWP style Build contest I remade the Boxor, one of my most favourite vehicles in the whole of Bionicle. I originally made it in studio, and then I've been gathering the parts to make it IRL for the past week or so.

52814486407_7ce39336d8_c.jpgBoxor (GWP Style) by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

    2IpR1o6.jpg

I liked the mechanics of the original, but I wanted to try and give it a wider range of articulation, so I kept the same linkage designs but with balljoints instead, so the arms and feet can pivot, and the legs can splay outwards!

52817855246_50e2d21e83_c.jpgBoxor (GWP Style) by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

    ubCAmtQ.jpg

The back, just like the original, has a tohunga arm for its spine, and can hinge back for the cockpit top to hinge up and fit in Nuparu (or any other GWP style tohunga), which actually stays in place with a single stud on the seat, so you can actually have it look around without the top pressing on his head.

lmao, I hope to see more mega mashups.

Are the slots in that center 2x2 brick like where they dump ore into the koma?

Yeah! I wanted to make it look similar to what the M.U.L.E does in-game, and the slots in that 2x2 brick looked the closest.

As the main line of defence, the GS-G “MagnaKoma” Heavy-class model was uniquely developed for the Green Squad to improve the mobility of their defensive/offensive capabilities, making efficient use of Tech-NIK Corp’s R-T Heavy Load joint system and their BB tyre model.

To further support the defensive and offensive capabilities of this mobile tank, the Green AI Assistant robot’s brain module was duplicated and placed into 2 artillery drones, integrated within the MagnaKoma‘s “abdomen” module.

A build for this years' Marchikoma challenge, and in homage of 10 years since Galaxy Squad!

The Racoon was a concept car made by Renault, which was revealed virtually in 1992 as a CG model, then a physical model was revealed in the Geneva International Auto Show in 1993.

52648221202_a3c780b0de_z.jpg[MOC] Renault Racoon - Interior by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

It featured 3 seats, 2 at the front and a mid-mounted rear seat, as well as cameras instead of side mirrors, and a sat nav system projected onto a heads-up display, all pretty high tech back in the 90’s!

52660568887_fee7ce3996_z.jpg[MOC] Renault Racoon by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

It was designed to push the limits of 4x4 tech, with manageable independent suspension, amphibious capabilities, and futuristic aesthetics that made it look like a rover.

It's is one of my favourite 90's concept cars because of its bulbous shaping and the way the axles/suspension are designed, and I wanted to try and build it in a 8-wide Speed Champions scale.

This is a dream come true: I've been hoping somebody would re-make this ship since the game's theatrical trailer reveal in late 2009. (I think it was then?) Any plans on building her in the real world?

    Long live LEGO Universe!

    Thanks!

Yeah, I built this with consideration of making it in real life (even though some parts would need to be replaced, like the big windscreens into transparent clear), but it'll be a long while before I have the space (and money) to tackle this.

  12. I started this last SHIPtember, but it actually took me a long while to finish it and have all the pics rendered.

52620563447_ea34781614_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

I chose to basically make an upscaled version of the iconic Venture Koi from the Universe MMO since it's been (now more) 10 years since its closure.

I managed to roughly follow the same proportions, but getting it to be at least 100 studs long meant the front section was the one that got stretched the most, and I really enjoyed doing a mix of adding more greebles and upscaling some of the original ones, especially in the engines.

52625243953_3a2d250a54_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

The other thing that I wanted to improve were the pods and accessing them, since the original ones were just connected via technic beams - now there's a 2x4-sized tube/corridor where a minifig can slide down, with a 2x3 tile hatch and an actual interior.

52623257994_4d933d05b3_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi - Pods by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

52623005171_dfc7ecd1b3_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi - Pods by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

As for the ship's interior, that's where I had a lot of creative freedom since we only ever saw part of the bridge in the opening story cinematic, with Hael's Imagimeter and the shards searching for Planet Crux.

I added the chairs, and I did the planet hologram display at the back as a reference to Duke's Crux Prime hologram in his room in Nexus Tower.

52632233733_56c672d01d_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi - Bridge by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

behind the bridge is where the crew quarters are located, with beds, kitchen, bathroom, and a roundtable for the 4 explorers, and then there's 2 sets of stairs that lead to the rear section of the ship and the cargo hold with (crew-coloured) crates.

52633320922_1e501850b4_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi - Cargo Hold & Quarters by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

In this rear section is where you'll find the engine room and the 2 tube entrances for the pods. The Venture Explorer and Nexus Tower's interiors were a big inspiration for the overall look.

52635978334_6bb53f7a5c_z.jpg[MOC] Venture Koi - Engine Room by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

Time management issues aside, I'm really satisfied with how everything came so well together, and I hope one day I get to build this in actual bricks.

The Honda City was a popular subcompact hatchback released in 1981 for the Japanese market, but it did get to the West under the name of Honda Jazz in 1982, followed by the City Turbo the same year.

I always thought it was a good model to remake in bricks, with surprisingly little to no other minifig-scale builds by others, and it ended up being a good lesson in hinges and angles when it came to doing the bonnet/hood.

The boot can hinge up, and whole roof can easily lift as well to show the interior with the big space at the rear to fit in its most known function: a Motocompo Foldable Scooter!

51912218008_29c699d977_z.jpg[MOC] Motocompo Scooter by Admiraltyphoon, on Flickr

The Honda Motocompo is a mini scooter that was produced and sold between 1981 and 1983, and was designed to fit in the trunks of its cars. It folds up into a clean, 45kg (or 17 pieces in this case) rectangle on wheels for commuters in Japanese urban spaces.

The main aspect for me was mainly to make a model with rolling wheels after seeing the Creator rover drone using the same wheel technique.

  14. More pics of Buzz have shown up in the usual places, this time focusing on the backpack.

Surprising to see that it's an entirely separate part with 2 antistuds, and with very detailed printing to boot - the rear part of the wings is also printed with the hazard stripe, so thankfully they aren't blank like the last time we saw it.

2 minifig leaks and they're very detailed, which makes me wonder if the set build budget will suffer a bit or if these sets are gonna be stellar.

  15. Even if there was some data on popularity/market for X-men, Avengers and Spiderman are still much more popular right now with both kids and adults thanks to the mainstream media, with the latter probably at its highest peak with NWH and Spiderverse in these 2 years if you will.

It makes more sense for them to ride out this wave of popularity as much as possible and then start with the X-men the moment they join the MCU, since there'll be new fans on top of the "veteran" ones who will still be waiting for lego to do more sets on them.

As for the $500 set, my bet is either on a "Definitive" Avengers tower or Asgard

How about Tony Stark’s Malibu Mansion?

Would be very interesting especially if they do the whole underground hall of armor, and honestly I feel it's a good candidate for a future D2C set (next year is IM3's 10th anniversary, or even further in the future if they wanna do some sort of "Iron Man Legacy" type of set).

I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss it -  a while ago we got our first look at some Lightyear toys:

    https://www.cbr.com/disney-pixar-lightyear-mattel-merchandise/

And buzz does indeed seem to have grey wings - now whether they're actually grey in the movie or just a case of early concept art is another matter.

What weirds me out with this fig is how big the armor is, making his shoulders look disproportionate, not to mention the plainness of the armor & wings is weirdly contrasted with the detailed torso & legs.
