    Pirates Mafia - Day Three

So I think it's really interesting that not one person aside from myself is voting for Timothy. The fact that I've been on the radar and Timothy hasn't should not immediately result in a unanimous lynching. The whole theory behind the idea that one of the three of us who were primary lynch candidates on Day 1 must be scum was based on the idea that none of the votes took off. Ergo, scum didn't want to join in on the vote. Today, we've got a vote taking off and no one is stopping to think that the scum are bandwagoning to get the townie lynched.

Because a jailkeeper is not a counterclaim to blocker. They're functionally very different, and my vote for you was based on competing claims. I've also seen this combo before, so I'm inclined to think you are both telling the truth. As for my fate... I don't want to walk the plank. I am a loyal pirate, but there's value for us in working through the blocks/protections from last night and I don't have a night action. Here's what we know: 1. I was jailed, which means I can't have killed or been killed 2. Timothy was blocked, which means he could not have killed 3. There was no kill last night Normally when there's a jailkeeper, you don't also get a protector. The point of the jailkeeper is to make it harder for town to protect because protecting a PR means that the PR can't then also use their ability. So, I think it's unlikely that anyone else was protected last night. In the absence of other information, the logical town lynch for today is either me or Timothy. I haven't had a strong scum read on Timothy until the block came up today, and the fact that I was protected means it's possible we're both town. It does NOT make sense. People keep saying this but it's simply not true.

If you're a jailkeeper then it's absolutely possible that Louisa is town blocker. That leave us with three logical possibilities for the lack of a night kill: 1. I'm scum and was blocked by you 2. Timothy's scum and was blocked by Louisa 3. Scum tried to kill me last night and I was protected There are other possibilities, of course, but they are less likely. Unless we hear more information, I think we need to choose between the first two options. I realize that may result in me going out today, but if it helps us get the win later, I can accept that. I'm not scum so I have to go with Louisa's block. Unvote: Louisa Hammond Vote: Timothy Dixon

This quote was responding to Louisa... I suppose there's some interpretation there, but a full five people made comments to the effect that Louisa was one of their top suspects. Malcolm, Gordon, Geoffrey, Thomas, and Joseph all said something about it. I do think Louisa panicked, but I don't think you're categorizing the conversation well. It's reasonable she felt attacked. No. I always give the benefit of first doubt on a claim. Protection is the most natural choice aside from blocking. I don't get the idea behind two people targeting the same player. I certainly agree with this. "Some sort" could be just about anything, and of all the things I can think of, multiple town blockers would be pretty low on my list of expectations. Which suggests that Patrick is telling the truth about the claim. That claim was not made under duress, which yours was. A simple enough reason would be that Triggs is going after you, and the town blocker doesn't believe your nonsense about a unique mechanic being multiple town blockers. I feel like you're sure that Patrick's claim is town, and hoping that by acknowledging that you'll look townie enough not to get lynched. Vote: Louisa Hammond

Looks like all 3 of those folks were townies then. Just because we have three primary candidates doesn't mean that one of them is scum. Remy being town isn't good, but I think you're laying it on a bit thick here. The lack of a night kill is excellent. I look forward to hearing what Mr. Dixon has to say about this. You seem quick to jump here. There's plenty of time for more information to come out.

You may actually be worse than an Imperial... are you a politician? "Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out." It's often safe for scum to vote however they please on day 1 because there's almost never a lynch. The lack of a real threat of one means that even if one of their own is among the top vote getters, they usually don't have to pile votes on someone else to avoid that lynch. That seems reasonable!

I will respectfully disagree that at the time of your vote, any such difference mattered, if it truly exists. The missing Jane quote referred to the notion that scum would have been pushing the bandwagon on one of the primary lynch candidates if they were all town. Personally, I think the idea that scum are going to pile on to anyone in particular on day 1 to be a bit naive. As others have said, Louisa's comments here are very waffly. Those talking about Remy early in the day were largely those voting for him early on, too. To say that the early discussion was not town led and the later discussion was town led means that she's either not paying attention to who's talking or is changing her opinion on them as they talk. I also don't understand what she's expecting to see from a massive bandwagon standpoint other than what we've functionally got and she's now contributed to. Maybe the rate at which it has grown? And if that's the case, then it feels like she's been waiting to see which way the wind blew on Remy in order to cast her vote for him. We need to see a lynch through today, so I'm joining the vote for Remy, but I don't like Louisa's approach to this. Vote: Remy Fontaine

That I was going to look at the folks who commented on Pinkerton as well as those who actually cast a vote for him. Too often people just look at the votes. By this logic, any time we start to develop a consensus about someone being scum, they probably aren't scum? That would mean we'd never actually catch one. At some point, the Imperials will have to join in on a conversation against one of their own in order to blend in. I don't like this line at all. Chapman's vote for me due to low post count is a perfectly valid early day 1 vote. What's really off about this, though, is that you voted for Pinkerton as a "wake up call". How is that any different than a low post count vote?

Following the Pinkerton trail a bit, aside from those who voted for him, the first person to comment on him after voting began was someone explaining why they DIDN'T want to vote for him. That someone was Thomas Chapman, who cast his vote against me while pointing out he didn't want to vote Pinkerton. When Louisa called him out for this, he said he looked at the rules and assumed Pinkerton would be killed if he didn't show up. FWIW, it was right around this time, still fairly early in voting, that Nigel cast the first vote against Pinkerton. 1 - Nigel Gordon Smith cast the next vote, which was "a wake up vote". Also fairly early, and with plenty of time to see that Pinkerton had already received Nigel's vote. 2 - Nigel, Gordon In here is where Jack said he thought the votes for Pinkerton would be wasted. Malcolm Langley later picked up on Chapman's vote for me while commenting on Pinkerton, using it as justification to vote for Chapman. Chapman responded by saying his voting was driven by low contribution.... upon hearing this, Langley then unvoted Chapman and voted for Pinkerton. Langley's reasoning seems to be that Day 1 lynches are usually bad, so if we had to have one, it should be a non-contributor. There was a fairly lengthy gap between the first votes for Pinkerton and this one. 3 - Nigel, Gordon, Malcolm The next person to address the Pinkerton situation was Remy, when he cast his vote for him. This vote came a decent amount after Malcolm's. 4 - Nigel, Gordon, Malcolm, Remy Langley responds that Remy's assertion that Day 1 lynches are 50/50 should be more 25/75. It's primarily interesting because they were both voting for the same person. Aside from Jack, who merely called them wasted votes, you were the first to call out the votes on Pinkerton as suspicious yesterday. Do you agree with others that Remy is the most suspicious there or is someone else more scummy to you?

There was nothing to it so I felt there was nothing to respond to. It was just a vote, just like mine. This I agree with. Anyone not voting is afraid of being caught one way or the other. No vote is wasteful as every vote is useful later on. It may take a few days, but it will help eventually. A vote with nothing to it is just random. There wasn't even a made up reason, such as they disliked my mustache. I agree we should narrow down the vote to 2 or 3. I'm leaving my vote on Henry as I think he has overreacted to my vote and ended up casting a revenge vote in my direction.
