i noticed this as well, i was told this is due to lego switching to more plant based plastics thus resulting in this change. I have now way to confirm this though. The color , and mold are different but also the size. Im building a large moc with the tracks and used 100 links of both the new track parts and 100 of the old. The old track parts were longer by almost half a track when i used this many links, also on bricklink it seems like sellers are holding on to the old version and selling the new so it seems us lego fans are not a fan of this change lol. I myself do NOT like this change.

I agree, I don't like this new variation, happily there are plenty of the older types available on Bricklink to buy, at reasonable prices. I might buy some more just to add to my stock :)

  2. I bought this set at Christmas, and enjoyed the build etc, and especially the stability of the trusses used to build the boom, jib etc. But Has anyone noticed that the caterpillar track links seem to be different to the ones we got back in the days of BWE (42055)? They seem slightly softer, like the ones for the Cat buldozer. they sound differerent to older tracks linkages, especially if you have them on say a, wooden table, though their weight is almost exactly the same per piece.

The glossy finish is not there either. Is this due to a change in the ingredients of the plastic they are made from?

    Thanks

  3. It seems Arjen's reply to my question about length of the string he used etc has somehow disappeared, possibly due to the unwelcome comments made by someone.

    Anyway, here is his Response.:

Ik gebruik gewoon de Lego app. Ik heb wel grotere liertrommels gebruikt en meer draad (ongeveer 50m1). Met de app kun je de draadlengtes opnieuw kalibreren, dit werkt gewoon goed. Voor het hijswerk gebruik ik alleen het kleine hijsblok, de grote hangt er alleen in voor het gexicht (en gewicht).

    Here is Google's translaton:

I just use the Lego app. I did use larger winch drums and more wire (about 50m1). With the app you can recalibrate the wire lengths, this works just fine. I only use the small lifting block for lifting, the large one is only there for the face (and weight).

I was not aware that the length of the strings could be recalibrated? If so, would you need to increase the diameter of the drums?

So far, I have come across solutions which require larger drums, but use the same length strings, but still if the app only allows so much rotation of the drum (hence the need to increase the diameter of the drum), then there will still be only so much available movement of the hook up and down. Hence my question of whether another software solution had been used...

So Arjen, how did you get around the issue the Lego Tom is having about the length of the string impacting the control+ system. I assume you simply did not use it?  Did you use S Brick, Buwizz, Brick Controller 2? How many extra frames did you need to purchase for this wonderful upgrade to what it should have been?

    Thanks

Was hesitating long time if I should buy this set because of the flawed design and the crazy price. In the end  I succumbed today. Found it for 412,5 EUR in the supermarket as part of a Christmas promo. I hope that someone will come up with a “pimp my Lieberherr” version that will look as it should have looked in the first place!

check out Arjen De Jong'd creation :)

A brick-built reel with a larger minimum diameter has been mentioned.

I was referring more to the fact that ( according to the reviews I have seen) there is just enough string on the. Original modem to get the hook to reach the ground, so if the (2×liebherr set) version is so much taller, can the hook still reach the ground?

Either because longer string has been used, or because the number of pulleys used on the hook line has been reduced?

    Thanks

  7. Thank you @JimsBridges for being, I think, the first person to post a positive post since the official photos were released a few days ago in this thread. I agree it is not quite what we were expecting or hoping for, neither would we ever likely get something so good as Dawid Szmandra designed, but we have what is before us, and we can choose to try and make it better, or else design our own version.

It does seem expensive,  even the recent mooted price of €559 or NZ$1000 as it currently correlates to, is steep. Yes, I agree with the lack of string ( I wish we could buy lego string in 100 metre lengths), and the hook could be actual metal like the cranes used to be ~15 years ago.

Will I buy it? Not sure yet, but I have not ruled it out at the moment.

    Enjoy :)

  8. Hi

I am deconstructing a crane chassis I made, and am using Stud.io to record its structure (as well as Photos). I have somehow got three pieces that show up as wire frames, rather than solid pieces, unless I happen to click on them, or connect another piece to them. Once connected they revert back to wire frames.

I have deleted them several times, and put them back in again, but to no avail.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

Experience i only have on Autodesk inventor and this is a proffessional CAD Program. To view an stl file you can use an actual Windows 10. it has an stl viewer inside.

Not every file will work on every printer. My XL actuator for example only works on a SLS printer.

Cool, thanks for that. I have a friend who has a 3d printer, will check to see if it will work etc.

sure, the bucket was actually printed with success on a filament printer.

What software would you recommend to design my own 3d stuff (as you have), and to view and print this? Or will it work with any 3d printer?

one of two avenues to purchase parts from lego, along side pick a brick.

Thanks, this is the exact route I used to get mine. Thankfully they were in stock. The hubs and motors seem to be permanently out of stock, but I cannot see the point of getting them without the rest of the set.

In original it is to reduce space while moving.

Thanks for that, looks very like the real thing! :)

Pneumatics can be as fast as you like, but you’ll need to have a faster compressor to get any meaningful performance out of them.

Especially with the weight of this model, or any other large model. Also, the longer the "arm" you will be moving, the greater the forces running through the fulrcum, and hence the greater force required to run the pneumatic. Hence why hydraulics is preferred in the real world.

Hi Igor, I got the DBG sprockets from Bricks&Pieces for €1.24 each.

    Each sprocket is driven by 1 L motor geared down 8.34:1 (12->20, 8->24, 24->40).

Quite frankly I don't think I'm going to finish the model. I started building the superstructure with my spares (plus the only two XL actuators I could afford from B&P) and found it so dreadfully boring - probably the most tedious, unchallenging and uninspiring build I've ever come across. I studied the rest of the instructions and it doesn't seem to get any better, save maybe for the arm. Anyway, I got this far and it's as far as I'm willing to go.

    Hi Suffocation.

I am trying to locate the bricks&pieces shop. Is it on Bricklink? Also, why is it I cannot see any of your photos, I just get these huge Brick not found  jpgs instead. Makes following your posts a little difficult to see where you are coming from. I have been trying to find anyone selling the new longer Linear actuators, but so far with no look apart from lego.com itself, from whom I have ordered 2.

    Thanks
