    10214: Tower Bridge

I don't love the monument sets generally and I don't love this. They never look quite right in a Town setting and for better or for worse I've resigned myself to minifig scale (whatever that chameleonic beast may be, but at minimum it needs a 4 wide vehicle and some level of playability ) It's always a shame when we see these small pics and can't appreciate the full level of detail which obviously goes into the design, but the studded suspension cables remind me of the similarly annoying parts of the Carousel and even though the colour scheme is pretty accurate I have no real need of any tan or medium blue, or white windows (and probably not at that price!). There's a bit too many colours going on and in a creator set of this magnitude it just seems offputting to use those white half-cylinder pieces - don't we get those enough in regular sets? I am curious about the effect to get the octagonal corners on the tower - zillions of the new 2x2 wedge bricks in tan, perhaps? If so they'll be worth picking up on BL.

LEGO Star Wars 2010 Pictures and Rumors

There's no reason to be sarcastic. And UCS is whatever LEGO calls it. One of the earliest Star Wars UCS sets only had 187 pieces.

    Review: 3862 Harry Potter Hogwarts

Thanks for the great review, Dunjohn, despite the disadvantage of not having your army of mummy micro-figs to assist I've never played any of the Games but who cares? This looks like an amazing parts pack! Lots of great, useful pieces and delights such as animals in a variety of new shades. Yes, that corner tile piece is new - quite a nice piece. Overall I was surprised just how much bricky goodness is in this set. It's so nice to see printed HP pieces again as well. Frontpaged and thanks again!
  6. EB member Dunjohn brings us a world-first review of the new 3862 Hogwarts Challenge game, whetting our palate for the official sets to come! Click here to view and discuss this detailed review in our LEGO Licensed Forum!
  7. I noticed iqtoys has listed the new Atlantis sets (Portal for $160, the Exploration Lab for $80 and the Deep Sea Striker crab thing for $33) in stock as well as the yellow City Truck for $50 - as far as I know these are about retail and noone else has them yet if you're keen. They also have the TRU Exclusive Garbage Truck get away for $75 which isn't bad considering the retail price of $100.

Yes, this has been mentioned a few times before It's a prototype of Desert Attack which a few retailers have used instead of the official image.

    Review: 9365 Dacta Community Vehicles

Thanks for this great review! What an amazing find. So many fantastic parts and designs. I really like some of the Dacta sets and many of the classic Basic sets which were always a vast source of inspiration. I know there are similar sets today but they just don't seem to have the breadth and depth of these golden oldies

    Review: 8403 Family Home

Thanks for a brilliantly funny and crystal clear review of this much-anticipated set, Rufus! Like others, I really want to love this set but it just lacks that factor which would kick it into the next level. I think we've just been spoiled with too many beautiful Creator Houses and Modular Buildings. If they'd expanded the Apple Tree House with its lovely dark blue roof and tan windows, given it figs and a proper interior, and included some of the play features like the treehouse, I probably would be a zillion more times thrilled. As it is... I'm trying to pinpoint my lack of enthusiasm and it's really down to the colour scheme. Red, white and bley is too prevalent everywhere else in LEGO City to really say 'suburban dwelling' to me. It's especially clear in that modular pic from the back of the box which shows how roughly interchangeable they all are: Fire station? Hospital? Pizzeria? Shopping centre? Townhouse? They all kind of look the same. Rather than worrying about Ginger's genetic heritage, I'd be more concerned about getting an architect for LEGO City who wasn't colour-blind. I like the idea of a modular system, I really do, but the expression needs refinement. Thanks again for a very enjoyable review

    Review: The White House

I loved Fallingwater, but this set doesn't impress. It doesn't capture the iconic view of the building, in my opinion. Actually if I saw it without the name I'd be hard pressed to recognise it. It may be accurate architecturally but it doesn't capture the feel of imposing height which is the way we usually see it.
  18. Yet in the Australian catalogue, they list both Series 1 and Series 2 for a September release. Sounds like they're planning to reissue Series 1 here.

    [MOC] Slave I

Yes, great work! The big failing of the official models is that they never get the curve right, but you've done an amazing job on capturing the overall shape I wish we didn't get the re-release or the UCS Shuttle and actually got an exclusive UCS Slave I more akin to this design than either of those two.

    Harry Potter 2010 discussion thread

It's funny, up until even a year and a half or two years ago you were still able to come by a lot of the older sets quite cheaply... but the well seems to have run dry. (I picked up a few of the 2004 releases for about what their retail price was not so long ago - amazing considering 5 years have passed in the meantime.) About the only thing you can get for reasonable prices MISB is the Durmstrang set from 2005. Used is a different story, though.
  22. Thanks for the news, hewman. Also, has anyone else that put an order in during that May 4 special received their SW sticker sheet? I realised last week I hadn't seen anything and put in a reminder.

    Space Police 2010

Hahaah! True. The Galactic Enforcer does suffer from the 'stick lots of stuff on the sides that looks cool but doesn't do anything' syndrome. I don't have much classic space, but the GE suffers internally on interior volume compared to something like the 1986 6985 Cosmic Fleet Voyager which has connecting modular sections and large lab etc rather than just a corridor down the middle and a completely separate main cockpit.

    2011 themes and sets?

It would be great to have a proper theme aimed at girls. The last new Belville wave was in 2008 and the occasional pink brick bucket and a fairy keychain doesn't cut it. Even if you don't like the pink aesthetic, Belville sets (and before them Scala) were always amazing for cool minifig accessories you couldn't get anywhere else.
