  1. Anyone built the Hogwarts moments sets yet?  Would be nice to hear some thoughts as I think I'll probably end up buying either just the figures or all 4 books!

As for longevity of the theme, I think 2/3 more years would be ideal. If we could get a Hogsmeade D2C, Gringotts, Rita Skeeter, Percy Weasley, Madam Pomfrey then I'll be completely satisfied.

EDIT: Actually I'd really like a Leaky Cauldron too...

I am sure there will be no problem with the quality of the sets even if there is a bigger wave than normal coming our way

I hope so!  And I have faith in the team that work on Harry Potter, I've just much preferred the Harry Potter level of quality on fewer sets than say Star Wars where it feels like there are too many sets and some really aren't great.

  3. Excited and a bit worried about next year's list.  Personally I'd be happier if they kept a lower number of higher quality sets.  Having said that, a Gringotts expansion would be excellent - I expect it will be on a 32x32 baseplate with the front aligned with the middle of the street as in the films.

Could be either $130 or $250, I'd rather not get the underground sections/minecarts included and honestly not fussed about the dragon as think it would display better as just another building on the street.  The vaults/dragon would be better as a standalone playset in my opinion.

I'm not too excited by the books and would have liked to skip these - but they look to be well designed sets and if the McGonagall figure is anything to go by then might end up being tempted.

I personally bought a full set and then no doubt will buy a few single packs from work, I did unfortunately only get duplicates of Newt, Jacob and Graves last time ?

Must be nice to have a job wherever you work. At least we don't have the "Pleeeease don't be a FB minifigure" lottery this time!

Yeah, I put a full box away at work yesterday but they won’t be available to buy until September 1st

Good to know! I don't know whether to buy a full set and miss out on the fun of not knowing who I'll get or to buy the bags blindly until I start getting doubles.

Really hoping this is like Newt’s case... but I sadly doubt it.

Would be great if it came with some grindylows, mermaids, blast ended skrewts etc. but I doubt it.

Apparently it's probably $20-30 price range based on the set number so a potential GWP perhaps?  I expect it'll be a large brick built book but it would be nice if it was a minifigure scale leaky cauldron bedroom - where we first encounter the book.

  7. I've been thinking about the leaked PS Harry minifigure, whilst a diagon alley entrance that adds to the set would be great I can't see it happening as the pavement is so narrow at that end next to WWW.

Instead I wonder if we'll get a polybag like set with street furniture: owl stands, cauldron towers, food cart, suitcases, etc.  Maybe another Hagrid too?

It‘s a bit too early to tell how well the set will sell, but the absence of Gringotts probably won‘t be a strike against it given how much the set includes as is

I'm still going to get it as I've already saved up but I agree with @topiku that the absence of Gringotts is certainly an excuse not to buy and there are others too, the bright pink might be off-putting for those hoping for a less garish build and the minifigure selection isn't as must-have as it could have been.

All in all though I'm very happy with it, think it'll look excellent front on and from the side with all the signs protruding out.

  9. Given that a lot of us seem to be slightly underwhelmed by the minifigure count, how many would people have been satisfied with?

For me just 2 more would have been fine, if say Arthur and Percy had been included then I would have been very happy.  Rita Skeeter and Mundungus Fletcher would have been great but a bit of a long shot, more likely (and less interesting) would have been some more students in WWW.

Great idea @dyl-and .. I was thinking of getting some of the witch and wizard figs from other lego sets and CMF series .. I think I might find a Gandalf minifig to use too .. the street need a bit more hustle and bustle ie more people ?

I generally only display Harry Potter sets but I'm going to include Gandalf in Diagon Alley.  I was actually hoping I could have Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli at a table in the Leaky Cauldron too but it's not to be  not yet anyway!

Pretty disappointed by the decision to make QQS pink, though. The building is olive green in the movies and only appears pinkish in the glare of the colored lighting at the London WB Studio Tour. The designers obviously used the Studio Tour as their reference for this set and not the films.

I think the designers actually used the first two films almost exactly as their source (excluding WWW of course).  In the clip below from 43s and even in the thumbnail you can see that the right hand side of the street as you face Gringotts goes Ollivanders, Scribbulus, QQS, door (Daily Prophet entrance), Florean Fortescue's, F&B, Knockturn Alley entrance.

And the building containing QQS is pink - it just doesn't look great in the set imo as such a bright shade over a large area.

It almost makes you wonder whether they could release the whole left hand side at a separate date!  Owl Emporium, Cauldron shop, Madam Malkins, Leaky Cauldron(?), etc.

  12. Happy with the figs we're getting.  Would have loved a Percy Weasley - I think this was the perfect opportunity to include him finally.

Shame there's no Arthur or older students for WWW scenes.

There has been hardly any discussion about the build!  Things I've noticed from the pics:

      - Cobbled street outside which is excellent for display purposes

      - Different brightly coloured facades for each shop including a new window piece for F&B

      - Arch to Knockturn Alley next to WWW (hopefully a sign of things to come

      - Scribbulus has an upstairs so I assume we'll likely get multiple floors for each building

      - Baseplates look to be 16x32 as expected

Can't wait for a full reveal!

Has anyone else noticed that the temporary Lego.com listing has the set as 16+, not the new "adult" leave 18+? Does that mean it'll come in a pleasant HP-style box and no the all black "for adults" packaging? That would be interesting given the piece-count/size.

Yeah I'm hoping it'll just be a huge Harry Potter set rather than anything else.

Gutted there's no Leaky Cauldron especially.  Hopefully we get a Leaky Cauldron and Gringotts separately - which does make sense to some degree given that both could connect at each end of the street.  I'm happy with all the shops bar Scribbulus, the rest except the Daily Prophet office are significant enough in the books at least and the Daily Prophet office won't take up a full shop so it gets a pass - especially if we get Rita Skeeter.

Here's hoping for a Percy Weasley (pleeeeease), Lucius Malfoy and Gilderoy Lockhart (surely).

Well ever thought maybe lego is putting the customer at number 1 right now? You must remember the countless of people, many of which said so on this very forum, who can't afford a 400,- diagon alley set, but desperately want a part of it. This is probably the majority of the people. So they will be very happy if they're able to get the one centre piece of the street separately. They even were able to get the most important shop owner through a gwp set 2 years ago (although that one was kinda hard to get for some people.)

I think you make some good points @Huigberts Builds, and I certainly wouldn't bet on Gringotts being included.  In particular I agree that $400 is a steep ask for many especially at the moment.

Nonetheless LEGO is releasing a $400 set regardless and there's naturally going to be stuff in there that people will be unfortunate to miss in a more affordable set (WWW for one).  What I would find odd about a follow up Gringotts beyond its omission from Diagon Alley as many have stated is twofold:

    - The level of intricacy in the build may be inconsistent between sets (if Diagon Alley is targeted to an older market)

    - The ordering would be peculiar.  A Gringotts followed by Diagon Alley would be great, everyone excited for Gringotts and then the prospect of a $400 addition of the rest of Diagon Alley would be very enticing.  But Gringotts afterwards seems like an add-on and I can't think of an instance of LEGO doing this in such a significant way (ie the most iconic part sold separately).

We'll find out soon enough and I'm sure we'll be happy with what LEGO does regardless.  They have barely missed a beat with the new Harry Potter line.

The modular Hogwarts sets (Great Hall, Astronomy Tower) were never complete and aren't to this day, yet no one is saying he's not buying the Great Hall because there is no Bell Towers (or Astronomy Tower in 2018). If Gringotts (or Borgin and Burkes) is a seperate set which will release in six to eight months, then both sets will be available on the shelf for the next three years. So there is plenty of time for the hardships of the pandemic to recede and for everyone to save 500 quids to buy the sets eventually...

The Hogwarts Great Hall and Hogwarts Astronomy Tower sets were sufficiently "complete".  They contained the name of the sets in their entirety and more, there wouldn't be any expectation to get anything else.

If there was a $400 set called Hogwarts Castle however and it didn't have the great hall for example then I'm sure people would be disappointed.
