The Lego Dragon Knights Sets 1993-1995

Wow this has caused some interesting and indepth discussion Im so pleased TheLegoDr: Thank you for your lovely comment, I also suffer from liking too many factions from classic castle, though I am not a hugh fan of combining my armies though I do use the new helm from these sets on a few key figs in other armies (to symbolise importance of course ) p.s I would love to see your armies posted, I keep hopeing to do the same thing but I ordered a camera from amazon ages ago and it never a arrived so since them I have been a bit camera phobic (I will get over it eventually). Aanchir: Thanks for clearing up the question of the cardboard castle, I agree that the workshop is a wonderful set but I can't fully let it hit my own personal top ten because of the lack of a door (once I mod it I can though). as for other set designs with the dragon masters I apericate that LEGO tried to do soemthing different and I love they way these guys stand out from alot of the other factions, something different is always interesting and often good. Thanks for the info on names that helps alot, however with these guys we get our first identifiable minifig, some of the sets have different names on them (like Black Monarchs Castle for example) however we don't actually get a fig to identify with the name (whos the Black Monarch?), if you ask online who the robin hood fig is and you would get a whole bunch of different answers, ask about Majisto and you will mostly get one, that was the point I was trying to make, in germany for example he was called Cerlin link, so I was more saying he is the firsted named fig not that his name is Majisto (I should probably make that clearer). If you post your list I would love to see it, just one final question what did you actually think of my article? is there anyway I could improve de Gothia thanks again, its always nice to hear from your p.s you have my condolencees about your favorite faction being userped drakke, I am quite similar I was biased towards the classic sets until I started seeing castle and kingdoms in the shops, these sets brought me back to LEGO castle (just like Pirates 2009 brought me back to LEGO) Mencot: I never saw them as oriental.......Until Now! OMG, still I think the golden age lasts a bit longer for me. The_Cook whats wrong with a set being all baseplates? I love baseplates, as for BURPS Ican do without them and some of the sets are a little BURP covered. I like using the old fig as a peasent becsue of the torso sadly the new wiz dosnt hae it so it doesn't look as good with a plain blue torso piece. still its fun to experiment. lego tipper: I was six when the Dragons came out, so you can guess I was mad for them, at the time they all lokked so much more exciting than my drab uniformed crusaders with the plain faces, I saw them as good guys as a kid (and they always fought the dragons never sided with them). Again when I got older I looked back on them and much prefered the older factions, Dragon masters is a brilliant childrens faction and others are great for all. Cheers for all the comments everyone

    Kingdoms 2012?

I'm just ganna add my two cents into this whole discussion. point 1: I am so sad that Kingdoms is going, I still need to pick up the darn castle and it flew off the shelves so fast it looks like its ganna have to be a bricklink order (got the rest thought so its ok) point 2: at the mo the Lord of the Rings look but that is just cause they are prelim images, I had the same fellings about POTC and now I own and love every set (still a tiny part of me wishes Lego had not created them and given me a few more years of the 2009 pirates) Point 3: I don't know about you guys but the set I am most excited for is the Vampire Castle from monster fights, sure its not classic castle but its still a castle and we get to delve a little deeper into the fantasy theme (and don't have to pay the Licening Mark up for a set) Cheers all

Is this the First ever LLEGO Castle?

A friend on bricklink pointed out this image as well sure its not much of a castle but its still interesting and I have never seen it before
  7. As alot of you know I have my head firmly in the past when it comes to my LEGO Love. Well on one of my regular searches for something interesting I found this little picture. Its from The LEGO idea Book 238-1 from 1963 (Link here) and a link of the actual picture is here The Pic The Castle I was wondering if this is the oldest castle LEGO made (even if they didn't sell it as a set) or if anyone can top this pic. the challenge is on for anyone to fine any older pictures by LEGO of castles. Cheers guys

The Lego Dragon Knights Sets 1993-1995

wow guys cheers for the positive feedback, its really nice of all of you Ardelon I like your explaintion as to why the shields are the same, i remember you mentioning it before, I think I will have to include that in the post as well (as a little side comment ) From what alot of you are saying the review is pretty accurate, which is good because I agonised for ages over my conclusion for these guy, initally my view was a little harsh, but the more I looked at the sets the more I liked them and both the larger ones are much better in person than on paper, whiched surprise me alot. Though I do like the alternate builds alot for some of these sets Nagyzee you echo my own thoughts before I delved into the Dragon Masters world, though I can't forgive the lack of door oversite on the workshop alot of the other sets are great once you see them in person and I agree some of the heads are not brilliant hwoever we needed this stage of development to get what we had now, not all stages of evolution are pretty if you do get a chance to pick up any of these sets from a reasonable price (I got my Dragon den in a car boot for £15, though it was missing the Dragon) give it a go you might find your view changing cheers all

    LEGO Kraken

I really like the barracuda in this, its like the old meeting the new in a beautiful combination. I possibly would have posed the figs in a bit more of a frantic way (they are getting attacked by a Kraken) but thats just me. Its a brilliant Moc
  13. Hello again all, another interesting find on the wonderful world of the web is below, a brilliant little build by The Incinerator14, I thought I would use his words to introduce it. "As you can see I got into the POTC theme, I am planning on making a series of mocs that relate to the Pirates of the Caribbean theme and to real life events. The First small diorama I made is called The Last Stand. It is based on the real life death of Blackbeard and the new POTC movie On Stranger Tides, at the hands of Robert Maynard is this case he is replaced by privateer Hector Barbossa who wants to avenge the lost of his leg at the hands of Blackbeard. After attacking Barbossa's ship Blackbeard boards the vessel only to find out that it is a trap,an epic duel ensues between the infamous pirate and the privateer Barbossa, is this the feared pirate's last stand? Forgotten Outpost

[pid][/pid]194D Forbidden Cove and Flickr Member Trevor Van Aalst created this wonderful little deserted outpost for the jolly rodger contest (on Forbidden Cove) and I thought that its so rare we all get to see the Armada (especially in such dire straights) that we should all get the opertunity to enjoy it as well. Pirates 2

Yeah I know, but it has to be named something, also if it is found in the future by someone else (for example a new blogger or scout) on flickr then they will type in the name in the word press search and come up with this, they will then know its been done before.

    Take all you can!

I really like the little coastal village vibe to this build, its nice to see a small managable number of bricks combined into something really interesting, the houses are a little small but I like the way the whole scene is put together.

    [MOC] Imperial sets - reloaded

Brillaint builds again Horry you do have a talent for Land based mocs. I really like the first build, its a huge improvement on the orignal set and it feels compact yet spacious (I love the staircases, so simple yet so pretty) The trading post as well is fantastic, I love the fire at the end of the docks, one question though why did you choose to use the green raisedplate rather than the blue one (the orignal one for the trading post), its nice don't get me wrong I am just curious. And I agree the last picture is book worthy. Very nice

    [MOC] USS Essex

This build is definatly Blog worthy well done, its such a nice ship with so much life to it, it feels like an upgraded Imperial Flagship (Meaning its something that TLC might acually build) I am almost envious that you have this in the real world and I only get to see it in picture form. Brilliant ship

    Turtle bay

I really like your little hut in this set, one question how do you get the boat to stay on as a roof, as I really want to recreat some of these for my own pirate builds (a couple of these on a shore line would look like great fishermens huts), is it bricked on or does it just rest on top. brilliant build all round though

MOC - Raid on The Crown Tavern

This is a really good build, I am always rooting for the redcoats but in this case I want the pirates to escape, you manage to capture a nice physicality with your fig poses it really brings it all to life. great build

    Napoleon's Return

This is a nice little moc, I love the poses you have (espically the fig offering the grey falcon, which is similar to the one offering the golden one it the painting). I agree that you need to take pictures with a white background, but I also like this one outdoors its nice and fresh and casts some interesting shadows on the figs. great work

    [MOC] Sabre Island - reloaded

In really like this build, I love the sturdy feel of it, I am sure it could handle a cannon ball or two thrown its way, I also like the top hats on the figs, I have loads of those kicking around yet I new use them (now I might). Don't be too hard on yourself Horry this is a good build be proud you do ideed have talent
