  1. Check out our updated Batcave & Wayne Manor MOC.  We had to build a custom case for it, as someone made me an offer I could not refuse to buy it.  I had never even thought of selling it, but after agreeing to it it led to 'how in the world am I going to ship this in one piece'.  That led to coming up with a custom case.  One thing led to another, I revamped the entire thing, added lighting, redid most of it, added a greenhouse and well 'scene' as an ode to Batman Begins, and this is how it all turned out.

  2. The Batcave itself is all LEGO of course, the case is wood & bondo basically, built by a guy who really knows what he is doing.  And not as easy as you think when you realize you need to actually ship something like this.  Fair enough on the trees.  I was pretty tired out by that point.  The crazy thing is once I agreed to sell it and there is a deadline, its amazing how much time you can keep putting into each little detail.

    Wow,

I just realized I posted this in the wrong thread.  Sorry 'Tornodo' Moderator please feel free to remove my posts, or move them to the proper thread.  I did not mean to hijack someone else's thread.

  4. So I have completed the next phase with Wayne Manor. We are actually about ready to move, so I had to rush a bit at the end and there are a few details I still plan to add. But I hope everyone likes the updates.

Wayne Manor is fully lit, and has a full interior. It also has a fully functional steel cage elevator that goes from a 'junk room' on the second floor down to the Batcave. It works via power functions, with controls hidden in the roof.

The whole thing is modular, though due to size there are 5 different sections that come off. The trick was to still have lighting throughout.

The Rolls Royce was built by my friend Alex Jones (OrionPax).

More photos on my Flickr account of course.

    I hope you enjoy it.

I'll try to get some higher quality photos in the future. I've definitely got a lot to learn with my new camera =)

  5. Thank you all very much for the super nice words. I do have a major upgrade to Wayne Manor that I will be releasing photos of soon. Full interiors etc. I am working on the landscaping and a few details now, and should have photos in a few weeks.

  6. Thank you all very much for the encouraging words. Lighting a large city is a tricky, and fairly expensive endeavor, but to me it is worth it.

Here are a few words of advice for all others who want to do something similar:

    1. If you do any soldering make sure your solders are very well done. I had a few failed solders and months down the road I had to track them down, it was frustrating. Take the time to do it right.

    2. Try to allow a way to get to the lights to replace them if something goes wrong. Because if it does, it will be in the hardest to get to places for sure!

    3. Take some time to figure out how to get your modulars where you can still access the various levels. This is not easy. I am getting better at it, but a lot of the first ones I did I will have to go back and fix.

    4. Make sure you have interiors, if you do not, lighting will make you want them.

    5. Plan for more than you think. I would say I have used 4 times the amount of lights I had planned, and I am not done yet. I still do not regret it, as I think it takes everything to a whole new level!

I hope our layout inspires some of you to try to light your layouts as well. I look forward to seeing other photos of what you all will do.

Oh, one more thing I forgot.

Try to buy in bulk. Most of the lights out there will give a discount if you buy enough, are willing to do without the fancy packaging, etc. This will save you a lot over the course of your builds.
