  1. I do think it is the short term replacement. Interestingly, we had castle along with LotR- I do think the two are distinguishable due to the license though. Big Bang Status means if LEGO thinks Nexo is castle, there will be no competition.

Well, if we can take the box and booklet of 5004419 Classic Knights Set as a hint, then yes, Lego indeed thinks Nexo Knights as a Castle theme. I have no idea what makes them think NK is a Castle theme, but it is unfortunate for both Castle builders and collectors.

Yeah, there was Castle alongside of LotR, but it was a tiny series, having only 5 sets, no impulses, no expansion later on. It all appeared so, well at best halfhearted. You realized, that Lego didn't expect that much of Castle next to LotR, and tried to be a little bit on the careful side.

I guess same goes for Nexo Knights now. As long as those are around I don't think there will be new Castle. Although Lego certainly didin't forgot us, since Nexos have plenty of references to classic knights even in the comics.

The thing is, while there are plenty of references to Classic Castle factions (such as heraldry of old factions), none of those parts are useable in Castle builds. It looks like folks at Lego really love to mock us.

  2. I'm anticipating the potential woodland and sea creatures we may get from the future Nexo waves too. They look like they will be great for a medieval fantasy setting, right along with the Fantasy Era monsters. My biggest fear is the absurd futuristic vehicles that will assuredly come with those sets, inflating the prices for a bunch of components I don't want.

Oh please, who wouldn't like a treant that throws plasma-resin bombs shaped like a pinecone and is equipped with power armor and jetpack? Or, a cyborg-leviathan which can function as an underwater base?

    ...not me, apparently.

I completely agree though. Woodland and sea creatures have a great potential for medieval fantasy setting. But, like they've done with the lava monsters, I expect them to make lots of wacky and weird vehicles and flood the shelves with them.

  3. At this point, I hope NK dies. Soon. I find its aesthetic insulting, and its existence precludes me from getting something that's actually good. I realize much of this is subjective, but that's my subjective opinion.

You aren't alone, I almost completely share your opinion on NK. I don't really care for NK sets, so I only bought minifigures, minifigures of the evil faction, specifically. Most of them look useable in a medieval fantasy setting (except for globlins and scurriers, they look a bit too wacky for my tastes). They have decent weapons and equipment either, with the nice large shield being my favourite. Good faction, on the other hand, is rather dull. If they release the Book of Knights, I'm planning to buy the Merlok minifigure which is supposed to be released with the book. But besides that, I'll only buy minifigure headpieces of the good faction on BL, as they have a rather nice variety of facial expressions.

  4. Since we live in a time were everything has to be MORE, I don' t expect TLG to return to a normal castle theme any time soon. Everything has to be extravert, extra strange and extra futuristic these days to keep a kids attention. :sceptic:

Anyways, a part from mini-figures, the best caslte builds come from mods and do it your self projects.

Self projects are usually better than official sets, no argument there. But the big deal with lack of Castle theme is lack of new parts. Without a new Castle theme, we are stuck with the minifigures, weapons, shields, equipment and other Castle-related parts we already have. While this is already bad as it is, it is even worse for purists who doesn't use custom parts.

  5. Great build, it has Mitgardia written all over it! The wooden building is my favourite, reddish brown and sand green looks perfect together, and red is an interesting colour choice, but definitely looks good. I like how the interiors are packed with details and full of life, and the fireplace on the corner is super awesome! By the way, this is probably the first time I saw Balin's hairpiece not on a flesh or white (Algus) minifigure, it looks nice on yellow too.

  6. Splendid! The narrow path between the rocks is very well done, as well as the vegetation and walls of the house. I also like the roof, it looks simple yet beautiful. Nice poem too! :sweet:

p.s. Don't leave Avalonia in Book 3!

  7. How about a seaside based Castle theme? I don't mean as in Pirates, but a medieval castle on the edge of the ocean kinda like that new police island set. Some boats (not ships) as the smaller sets, a siege engine (of course - how could they resist)...

That's what I've been dreaming of for years! Fishing boats, fishermen huts, a cargo port for bigger boats and ships, a wharf and a small inn next to it, boats full of bandits on their way to raid the harbor, or even sea dragons and mermaids if they want some fantasy side to their sets... there are lots of possibilities, since TLG hardly produced any sea based Castle sets.

But, lets be realistic here. The earliest sea based Castle sets are 6017 King's Oarsmen and 6049 Viking Voyager, both released at 1987. Then we got 6018 Battle Dragon in 1990, 6057 Sea Serpent in 1992 (largest of the old Castle sea vessels and very well done with the limited part selection back then) , 1547 Black Knights Boat in 1993, 1804 Crossbow Boat in 1996. After that, TLG took a 9 years of break and released 8801 Knights' Attack Barge (which looks more like a part of a castle than a boat) and 8802 Dark Fortress Landing in 2005 and 8821 Rogue Knight Battleship in 2006 (being KKII sets, in my opinion, all three of them look horrible, while Dark Fortress Landing is somewhat acceptable, the other two are complete abominations). Then, finally we got 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack in 2007 and 7048 Troll Warship in 2008 during Fantasy Era. That makes 11 sea based Castle sets in 38 years, which isn't really much.

Speaking of siege engines, even they'd be welcome, since having them on sea vessels is somewhat uncommon as far Lego sets go. Unless, of course, they do them horribly like they did on Skeleton Ship Attack and Troll Warship. I really like both sets, with the exception of their siege weapons. The ballista on skeleton ship is weird and just impossible to aim, and while the ballista on troll warship is better in terms of accuracy, the way how orc operate it, it looks more like a missle platform than a ballista  (and the football stands with springs just kills it for me). I had to remove both of their siege weapons in the end. I'd rather have a good looking siege weapon that doesn't work than a working siege weapon which looks strange on a medieval fantasy ship.

  8. I would really like to see a siege tower in particular. That is something TLG hasn't had in a set for a while.

Actually, more castles in this style would be great... *snip*

I'd even settle down to getting half of the interior details of that Disney Castle in a tower/blacksmith/stables/random building of a Castle set.

By the way, I'd remove the link, it has leaked pictures in it and I wouldn't want a fellow Guilds builder to get banned! :sweet:

  9. Ocean would be great theme! It's like aquanauts that was my favorite theme in childhood, but in fantasy setting, it's double hit! And also some merfolk characters.

Those are great ideas! I'd probably get multiples of merfolk set, if they make any.

So, the same way there might be parallels with other popular Lego themes - what about star elves? :)

That'd be interesting. I remember that Sensei Wu of Ninjago had mentioned there are several different worlds like theirs, all in different dimensions but also connected to each other. We also saw a Chima character in one of the introduction videos of Nexo Knights. So, if those realms are also connected with each other, we might see ninja elves next!

Crystal castles on the moon and space unicorns?, ? :D

Or if they insist on keeping the theme out of space, it can easily be FLOATING crystal castles! That'd be awesome!

  10. Excellent! That would look great and closer to Classic ;-).

Please put some photos after the modification.

    Cheers

Ones I have are weapons and parts made with new colour palette, but I can put some photos after switching them. But, of course, I'll have to get the set itself first

  11. Lego just needs to get over the idea that vehicles have to be a BIG part of any Castle theme.

Exactly! That being said, I wouldn't like to see a Castle theme without any vehicles either. But TLG is overdoing it, especially with catapults. Having a carriage for each faction, one or two sets focused on a siege weapon (a detailed and working siege weapon, not a lame catapult or ballista that is made of 12 pieces) and perhaps a boat or ship is enough for one wave. Speaking of siege weapons, I've seen lots of catapults and ballistae, but I don't remember a battering ram in any of the Castle sets. I wonder why they haven't done it before, but I'd like to see one in future sets.

  12. But there is Reddish Brown and black for which they could make the weapon color. Also Dark Bluish Grey would be better than Light Bluish Grey for Helmet. ;-)

Of course, that's possible. Actually, I already have parts in those colours and I'm planning to switch them after I buy the set :sweet:

  13. The set is brilliant except for the followings :

1- The Helmet should be in Dark Grey color as in vintage sets and not in Light Bluish Grey.

2- The Axe Weapon Should be Brown or Black as in vintage sets and not in Dark Bluish Grey.

3- The Leg Should be in Light Grey Color as in vintage sets and not in Light Bluish Grey.

TLG, should made the above in that promo set which i believe the can do it.

Original Set has only 1 sheild which is attached to the Siege Cart.

TLG changed their colour palette at 2007 and I don't think they have their old colours anymore.

  14. No worries, that's completely normal.

No only is it normal, but it shows that they are genuine. The fakes don't have those numbers.

Thanks a lot for the answers. Good to know those wargs aren't fake, now I can buy more of them without any worries!

  15. It is both strange and equally weird that TLG listed NK amongst Castle themes, when it absolutely is not a Castle theme, but an Action theme instead. It simply has little to nothing to offer for Castle builders, perhaps with the exception of some parts and minifigures from evil faction(s). And the good faction? Oh no, not with those god-awful tron lines on torsos and legs. But, regardless of that, they consider it so and will not produce a new Castle theme while NK sets are still on shelves. A D2C Castle set in the meantime sounds a bit too far-fetched to me, the best (and the only) Castle-related stuff we're going to get are probably CMFs, until TLG decides to end NK and produce a real Castle theme, whether historical or similar to fantasy era. Even a Castle promo seems impossible to me, since we got one just this year.

  16. Nice house! I don't have much to add on the roof, and others have already commented on it before. However, I think adding a couple of furniture would be good. For example, the interiors will be awfully dark once the fireplace will go off  Adding lanterns for each floor would help with that. Adding a couple of chair/stool to downstairs will make the owner happier too, since sitting while eating is much more comfortable. Also, adding bottles, glasses, food, perhaps a food barrel or a little wine barrel would add up the liveliness of the place. While optional, you can add a window (a large one, which takes 4 studs in length) to the windowless wall on the second floor, preferably a larger one. Lastly, the little vine on the outside is a nice touch, you might consider making it larger by adding more plant limb pieces, or perhaps even adding few flowers on it. But even as it is now, I like how that house turned out! :sweet:

  17. I doubt there's going to be a new sub theme until Star Wars cools down around 2021

My thoughts exactly. Although I'd love to get an appetizer before that. Even a single wave Space theme like 2015 Pirates would be great, at least to remind the fans that Space is not dead. :sweet:
