  1. Although these results were a bit disappointing, it gives me hope at the same time.

All 3 of these projects that were selected were in a LEGO Ideas review in the past, but were rejected then, but then re-uploaded and now got picked!

Many people are saying that the LEGO Ideas system is clearly broken and that getting 10K votes isn't difficult anymore, especially if we have a batch of 57 projects... Well maybe the LEGO Ideas team are looking for projects that get 20,000 votes instead now :P or 30,000 votes in the case of LEGO The Office (even more when you consider the other people who made The Office 10K projects)

Some of the best projects in this batch should be re-uploaded, like House of Chocolate, Tutankhamun (unless LEGO is planning on ripping that one off too...)

With Lego aiming at the target group of non-afols, who buy a display model as a unique piece of decoration, the book-ends are pretty likely. If Lego had style they would release a "bag end"-bookend :,D

I could see LEGO just copying the bookend idea and making a Harry Potter bookend. With the new Hogwarts Icons set, LEGO knows people will buy a pile of builds for several hundred quid. Some HP bookends to hold the HP series of books would sell better than the plain version or the train version methinks.

No. There is already enough of a backlog.

No, not at all. Sonic Mania is coming out in a few months, Vincent Van Gogh is basically done and coming out in a few months, same with the Earth Globe.

They are only developing Motorized Lighthouse and the LEGO Ideas Coastal Contest GWP (Ray the Castaway)

That's just two sets, and LEGO is pumping out like over 40 18+ sets a year now. They're probably doing more than just 1-2. :P

  4. I made this project as a collaboration with my girlfriend - LEGO Chia Pet. It was all her idea! She had the idea for a few years and lately we decided to finally make this thing. My girlfriend downloaded Studio and was able to get started with it pretty quickly. I finalized her designs and sculpted those animal faces the best I could. She also did all the graphic design for the whole project.

And she did a fantastic job here with this growth animation:

Going back to main topic, it should be only a matter of time before the 1st IDEAS review of 2021 , 57 submissions.

Viking Ship is an odd one here,  in it's original size small enough to serve as an army type pack (with fabric sails and printed shields etc) and would fit with the rumoured summer 3-in-1 set it could bring prints/parts for, but that's mainly assuming LEGO does their "double" releases like they had with Barracuda Bay and Blacksmith combined with 3-in-1 versions.

True that, that could explain the new 3-in-1 viking set. When I first heard about the new 3-in-1 Viking set, I thought that the LEGO Ideas set would then be rejected, but it could be the opposite! It does seem strange how LEGO is making a new viking set again, it is very unexpected.

  6. So today LEGO Ideas have stated that the 10K interview posted today was the final one for this batch of 57 in review. That's strange, there were about 10 projects that didn't get a 10K interview. Perhaps those individuals chose not to participate?

Now that all the interviews have finally been posted, are the results coming very soon now, possibly in a matter of days?

  7. Cross your fingers for LEGO Ideas to bring us a new train. I hope that the data collected from the LEGO Ideas 90th anniversary vote (trains ranked 4th place) helps convince LEGO it's time to make a new one.

I estimate the results for the batch of 57 Ideas projects will get revealed in 2 weeks. They still have about 10 more 10K interviews to publish, and then they will probably announce the results a day later, like they did with the previous review period.

Wow! It's kind of amusing to see a model that has a "set-like" look in terms of parts and colors despite being way more gruesome than a set would ever be. A good example of how bright colors aren't ALWAYS "kid-friendly".

It's also neat how even with a lot of the same exterior design language as the original 3-in-1 castle, you made it much more ominous-looking via features like the gnarled, leafless trees, the large black torches on the balcony that overlooks the water, and the lack of the cheerful flowers from the official models. So while the official models evoke a picturesque countryside setting, this MOC feels more like it's set in some dreary and forbidding marsh.

Ironically, I was just thinking recently about how odd it is that the Black Falcons have been portrayed as a more or less "neutral" faction in recent sets, when catalogs and magazines from the 80s (like the spring 1984 issue of Bricks and Pieces or the summer 1984 issue of "De LEGO Krant") typically portrayed them as a shady or villainous faction. Your MOC definitely calls to mind that old-school characterization!

And I love that final image with the reanimated skeleton in pursuit of the prisoner! It really brings the setting to life (no pun intended)!

You totally get what I was going for with how I landscaped the exterior of the fortress! I chose not to use the flowers and leaves in order to keep the overall tone dark and muted. I also really liked using those gnarled root pieces in brown as the dead tree branches. It looks pretty spooky! I wanted to make this area look like a haunted marsh or some kind of wasteland.

I also thought it was interesting to depict the Black Falcons as bad guys here. I like to think of this fortress as a separate facility where the Black Falcons do all their dirty work, away from their main castle.

The final picture came out well and that's how I personally played with those minifigures. I accidently created the "Green Scythe of Death" when I put the bright green claw piece on that black bar! :) it was so wicked cool that I decided to keep it in the final design.

Bloody brilliant, emphasis on the blood. I like the sinister vibe. It's historic, not too dark, but a side we don't often see. The architectural cues and hidden passage are cool too. And I can see the fun of dropping the prisoner time and time again.

Yes! The blood was a good use of all the little red tiles you get in the set. I also didn't like how 31120 Medieval Castle had red banners on the front of the castle, it was way too bright for my taste. For the overall look of the castle, I went for a really old, crumbling fortress that is mainly square in shape. The mechanism is nice and smooth and the way it clicks with each turn of the crank is very satisfying. You can also do the whole motion of cranking and releasing the lever with just one finger, so my large, adult-sized hands can still operate this ;)

I'm rather impressed by how well the Classic Castle innocent aesthetics and lighthearted play features look with a Torture Tower theme! That's really a great MOC.

Thank you! I tried to make it not too disturbing and make it a wee bit fun, like when the skeleton chases the prisoner around. The torture mechanic with the chains is pretty fun to do over and over again :P I tested it like 500 times when building this MOC :P

  11. I used to not like just2good at all, but then after seeing his face reveal I feel like he is getting more serious, more mature, and I can respect him now.

JANG is good, but I agree that his videos are long. I have to set some time aside, make a cup of joe or grab a snack, and sit down to watch his long videos. But they're worth it.

RacingBrick is my new favorite. I love the guy, I like how his videos are professional, and he's not afraid to say any criticisms of the products. I hope his feedback helps improve Technic sets in the future.

Another decent Technic channel is Unbrickme. The guy does really nice reveiws of Technic and he films some nice outdoor footage.

I subscribe to Bricksie, Canada's biggest LEGO youtuber. He's pretty good, I enjoy his personality and his engagement with his viewers.

I also like BrickTsar's videos, his vintage collection is awesome, he has a cool basement, and his train videos are my favorite.

Brick Experiment Channel has to be the best LEGO youtube channel of them all!

  12. Hi everyone, I recently got my hands on the new 31120 Medieval Castle and immediately started making my own custom castle set with just the pieces in the set. I have now finished the castle and have named it: Black Falcon's Torture Tower.

    1000x800.jpg?1630321493.4874456

My goal for this project was to make a castle with a mature color palette that appeals to me as an AFOL, as I do not really like the look of the main builds of 31120 Medieval Castle (not a fan of the yellow and such...) I also wanted to make a castle that also has a darker theme - torture. When designing this castle, I took inspiration from many of the Castle sets from the 80's and 90's, as well as some more modern LEGO Castle sets. Feel free to comment if you can see some of the references to classic Castle that I have built!

Black Falcon’s Torture Tower is a fully enclosed haunted fortress featuring a torture dungeon, and it is built using only 756 pieces from set 31120 (roughly 50% of the pieces in the set). The side wall of the fortress also hinges open so you can see inside.

    51410794299_4f37eac07a_h.jpg

The skeleton can be attached by putting his body onto the spikes on the wall. Ouch...

    51409291007_3bdc0e40ea_h.jpg

I used the chains, cranks, and technic pieces in this set to make an addictingly fun play feature! Turn the crank to raise the prisoner by the chains. Then lift the latch to release the chain and send the prisoner falling towards the bloody bed of spikes.

    51410038821_ea8b5416cb_h.jpg

The opposite side of the fortress has a balcony that overhangs the flowing water below. There are a few similarities to some older sets here, I wonder if anyone can guess them.

    51411016525_044f90b8c5_h.jpg

You bet there's a secret tunnel in this set too! This tree can pop off to reveal a tunnel. Also notice the nice texturing on the front doors there.

    51409290922_8de3c9c58b_h.jpg

In the tower is a treasure room with gold, as well the resting place for the Ghost Knight. This minifig has a white 1x1 round brick as its face and is actually a ghost living in this suit of armor.

    51410794209_d599971dc2_h.jpg

I used the bright green claw piece and the 5L bar in black to make the real treasure of this fortress: The Green Scythe of Death. Inside the chest is the Chaos Emerald.

    51410038626_5019d02f24_h.jpg

All hell breaks loose when these items are combined in the hands of evil.

    51411016640_a6eef720c1_h.jpg

It was a blast building this castle! I haven't built any castle-themed LEGO builds in nearly 15 years and this set offered enough pieces to create my vision of an awesome torture tower. I look forward to building more alternate builds with this set, and also hope LEGO Creator makes new Castle 3-in-1s like this.

If you are interested in seeing more pictures and downloading premium instructions for this MOC, they are posted on Rebrickable.com .

Goddamn capitalism. Taking the fun out of everything.

Capitalism is amazing. The system gives any creative individual the opportunity to make custom LEGO products to satisfy these niche needs. Can you name a better system than that? You're not seeing the possibilities here ;)

I think if they have a legit reason why they wont do Avatar (e.g. can't get the license or something) they should just come out and block Avatar as an allowed project.

Same with Zelda or any other IP that keeps comming up and keeps being rejected. They don't even need to give a reason why, they just need to add that IP to the list of blocked IPs alongside all the other blocked IPs.

LEGO will continue to let people make Zelda projects, even if they will never get approved. Although it may bug the fans that they keep getting teased with awesome Zelda projects, it's really good free advertising for LEGO on all of these gaming websites. LEGO has been appearing constantly on gaming news websites lately, and will continue to get this free advertising for years to come! Why stop.

  14. I have a game from the Japanese series Densha De GO!! which uses a special train controller (with speed and brake controls) It's very cool and recommended for anyone who likes trains enough!!! I will admit that the game is very difficult and requires lots of practice to complete missions.

If you've ever tried Pilotwings on SNES or N64, it's a bit like that.

  15. Hi everyone, I'd like to show you my design for a playable musical instrument, the Electric Bongos. To summarize, it is small pair of bongo drums, each equipped with a sound brick that make a "poh" and "pah" sound of the bongo drum. You hit the white drum skins, which are essentially big spring-loaded (with elastics) buttons, to make sound.

This is a LEGO Ideas project, you can see all the pictures and support it here.

The set is only 584 pieces and uses some of the techniques used in the Saturn V rocket to make the roundness of the drum.
