  1. Even if some organizations are with OyO, they could presumably cut off ties with OyO and ask LEGO to make sets, right? This may be wishful thinking but getting my hands on some Seahawks LEGO sets would be stellar!

Doubt they can just "cut ties" Probably on a long term exclusive contract. Just read an article that they are "blazing trails" for player specific products (and that was from key league licensing people(NFL/NCAA)), not the writer or OyO with the "blazing trails" comment.

And those three MLS(Major League Soccer) fans across the US with hopes, can scratch that. MLS is also signed with OyO.

  2. A 2017 release for a Guggenheim set is suspicious - It might seem like the obvious building to re-create is Frank Gehry's iconic Guggenheim Bilbao, since they already captured Guggenheim NYC (Frank Lloyd Wright) in an official set.

We are forgetting that the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, Also designed by Frank Gehry opens in 2017. I think there is a very good chance that the model will be timed to coincide with the new building. It's also just a few years before the 2020 World Expo in nearby Dubai. LEGO is crealy trying to grow outside of North America and Europe, and the affluent middle eastern hub seems like a good place to be, (They habe already done nut just one, but two models of Burj Khalifa as well.)

    What do you think?

I think I like the road you went down. Makes very good sense. Let's model a brand new museum. Even the possibility of selling it in the gift shop, along with the Burj Khalifa, as a way to promote LEGO in a new area.

  3. Let's see. NCAA, NHL, NFL, and MLB are signed with OyO. NBA is with another company, can't think of which one. These guys don't usually sign multiple company deals for same type product. So what's left? Soccer. LOL Guess this won't be a popular line in the US...

Unless there are no licenses, and generic teams

  4. I'm sure this has been covered, but couldn't find anything in a search....

When a new model comes out. Say 10252 Creater Volkswagen Beetle. There as you know a crap load of new Dark Azure pieces. What is the guestimate on when they will show up on Bricks & Pieces for purchase? They are all there now, just show out of stock.

    Thanks

  5. That being said, the one mod I would like to see/do is place the Porsche 3.0 flat six motor under the bonnet. Of course restyled into more of a street racer than a beach cruiser. Soon enough I suppose.

That is something I've thought of. Well and engine swap in any case, not necessarily the Porsche 3.0. But not much of a mod'er or moc'er here, Just getting started. So probably won't happen for me unless someone posts instructions. Though I have learned a few things in changing somethings out on this car.

Have also looked into removing the roof rack. Will take a lot of 1x2 tiles since they don't have anything bigger in the Dark Azure. Maybe carry the two-tone theme to the roof in white.

  6. I just switched mine to the original rims with these tires http://www.bricklink...age?P=44309#T=C.

I ordered 55978 which are 37X22ZR's, so a little more lower profile than yours at 43.2X20ZR's (to note: the "factory" tires are 49.5X20ZR)

I also bought all those white pieces for the two-tone, but then after I built it in blue I really like it and not sure if I want to switch it.

Thinking about buying another one to build as "factory".

This set is becoming quite entertaining. I feel like a true VW bug owner.

I know. i think, I've almost got mine the way I want. still waiting on a few parts. My list of mods:

    * Two Tone white.

    * Dropped front end (per your instructions) Will leave this way. Really like the raked look.

    * Currently have the Metallic 3x3 discs for hub caps. (not sure how this will end up.)

    * In process of doing a "white-out" for all the "Chrome"(read light bluish gray) pieces

    * "painted" rear tail light housings body color

    * "Tinted" rear windows

    * "Shaved" front turn signals (in the real world, turn signals would be incorporated into the headlight assemblies)

    * Modified front bumper to be only two plates wide at thickest part instead of three, removed front licence tag(not sure if will stay off yet)

    * "Shaved" engine deck lid handle. (and replaced 1x2 jumper for extra 1x3 plate for the other license tags for a 1x2 body colored plate.)

    * Removed the bars (1x2 slopes on front edges of the bumpers), they are just plain straight bumpers now.

    Think that's all.

  7. I actually did get the front down two plates. Had to disassemble a lot, but it looks pretty cool (if you're into lowered VWs). The rear axle is attached with some technic pins direct to the frame so really will have to disassemble the whole thing I think. I'm not sure if I'll do that yet.

Pretty cool MOD. I've just did it on mine. Thanks. Was actually thinking about a way to do that same mod, last night watching the lastest webisode of Jay Leno's Garage, he had a guy with a custom '66 Bug, and he had the front end dropped. This should go well with other MODs I have planned. Awaiting on the pieces to arrive. Plan on modifying the bumpers, and blacking out the "chrome"(read light blueish gray) Wanted to do a "white-out" with the "chrome" but ran into the problem the Bar Holder, with handle, it only comes in black and light blueish gray. So to complete a "white-out" paint would be involved, and really don't want to do that. I think I've figured a way to do the bonnet bar in all white pieces, but stuck on another way to mount the mirrors. :( Will keep looking though.

Though will probably still use the wider wheels/tires when finished. Just a lower profile tire to fit the front end. I also two-toned mine with white when I built the Bug.

  8. Don't know which year the Beetle is supposed to be from though.

4th generation '65-'67 best I can tell. (this is the first generation that had orange turn signals in the rear, also the last one to not have a gas tank filler on the outside.) So the plates don't match either the California, or UK plates.

I understand in California. Once you are issued a set of plates you can keep them forever, and do not have to change to a new style when they are released.

But I'd still like the style plate that was being issued for when this car was new.

The picture included for this generation even as the roof rack.

  9. Of course this is what your pictures show.

The question is rather if there is an "update kit" available at the customer service for more than 6 months.

Moreover, if such a kit exists, the part itself does not exist according to bricklink.

There is. simply drop an email to Lego.com, and they will have the two correct windscreens(front & rear) in the mail within the week. At least mine were.

It is the same size/mold windscreen as the Beetle. Though as mentioned. The Beetle is trans-clear, and the Mini is Trans-Black.

  10. EDITED: 16SEP2016 ALL NEW PHOTOS.

I think I finally have the final MODs,

    MODs

    * Front end lowered 2 plates using Averagejoey's mod.

    * White-Out (replace all "Chrome" (read light blueish gray) with white

    * Removed the VW logos on bonnet.

    * Dark Brown dash, steering wheel

    * The "Chrome" housing for tail lights color matched body to Dark Azure

    * Close up the hole in front of gas tank

    * Tried to clean up colors inside front bonnet.

    * "Shaved" front turn signals (a real life mod would install turn signals inside headlight assembly)

    * Removed the jumper on the engine cover for the extra licence plate.

    * Dropped the Dark Azure one plate lower on doors, and under rear windows. The "factory" light blueish gray stripe wasn't even across the side of the car. Now that line is.

    * Thinned up the front bumper one plate

    * Changed out the 1X2 plates for 1X2 wedges under front of the bonnet.

    I think I got everything...

  11. I´ve compared the length of the Lego models with the lengths of the original cars.

The original length of VW Type 1 (Beetle) is 4070 mm, the Lego VW Beetle is 290mm long.

    Scale: about 1/14

The original length of a Mini Cooper is 3401 mm, the Lego Mini Cooper is 250mm long.

    Scale: about 1/14

So the Ferrari is a little bit bigger than the other cars, but Mini, T1 and Beetle are the same scale.

NOT EVEN CLOSE TO SAME SCALE

  12. I live in California (have for 40+ years). I can confirm that we don't have to change plates when the style changes. Once you're assigned a plate, you can keep that plate as long as you want. You can even transfer the plates to a new car. I have a family member that got their personalized plate during the 84 Olympics (hosted in Los Angeles). The state made a special plate for that year. They still have that plate - they've just transferred that plate from car to car throughout the years.

California just cares that you have a plate, not what style it is. Just the last year, they reintroduced the Yellow lettering on Black plate again. It's been confusing some people to see the "old" plate on brand new cars.

Thanks for the info. Interesting how things change from state to state. When I lived in Hawaii, the plates belonged to the car. You went an bought a new car, or any car from a dealership it already had plates on it.(unless you happened to get a new one that arrived at the dealership within the week.) Made for a total pain in the megablocks to transfer personal tages from one car to another. Most didn't even bother. Buddy of my bought a car and it had KADY(Kay-Dee) on the license plates. Everyone always asked him who the hell Kady was. He'd just laugh. Then he and his wife had a daughter. As a joke they named her Kady. LOL...

  13. Here's a question on the California license plate?

Why is it yellow with black lettering when for the era of the Bug should be black with yellow lettering(1963 to 1969) which would be the era of the Bug?

Is California one of those states that don't make you change plates when the style changes? Georgia I know is one. There are about 4 different standard Georgia(non specialty plates on the road today)
