Oh I agree laketown displays are neat I quite like them now, heck I liked all the hobbit and LOTR sets.  I got into LOTR through Lego sets funnily enough. Not even one sticks out as poor to me. Really wish LOTR and POTC would have come out when I was older. I would have bought the entirety of both lines day one. Don’t remember the last time I’ve wanted to buy an entire wave of a theme.

I paired the Laketown sets with the Viking Village, makes a GREAT Laketown!!

  2. Don't get me wrong, if Lego wants to keep doing a bit LOTR set every year, I'm fine with that. I'll keep getting them. I already have a MOCCED up Shire, Helms Deep, Erebor and  Laketown. Plus Orthanc WAS in my Mordor, but I just took that out to make room for Barad Dur. So with Rivendell and Orthanc already being great sets, only so many places for Lego to go for making sets. If they do another Helms Deep, or Bag End, I'll buy it, and make my current ones even better. Out side of that, Minis Tirith would be the next likely candidate.

But they could do some Rohan sets in the vein of the Viking Village, and keep the price point down, people would LOVE IT. This theme has been, and continues to be VERY EXCLUSIVE. It's expensive to collect for, I feel bad for new collectors. The choices to collect LOTR are Brickheadz (lame, lol), $500 Rivendell and $450 Barad Dur, or go and BL and pay $20 and up for the VAST majority of the minifigs.

I wouldn't hate it if Lego threw people a bone, and make it easier for people to get into the theme.

  3. I'm going to say something that might surprise some, but... I hope Lego does NOT release another big LOTR set for a while, at very least until after they retire either Rivendell or Barad Dur. Sure most people would LOVE Minas Tirith, but let's think about this from a consumers perspective. Lego is about to have TWO MASSIVE LOTR sets on shelves, one is good the other is bad. Do they REALLY need Minia Tirith at this point? I would argue no. I think it's time for sets under $100, to fill out the theme, not another $500 plus set. I'm not saying they should be "playset" style, they could be diagrams, or CMF, etc.

What do you all think? Agree with me or no?

  4. Let me just say... I LOVE this set, I also LOVE the idea of BL designer program. I'm just not a fan of the execution. But IMO Lego really needs to rethink their execution in a few different areas...

For starters, Lego waits WAAYY too long to announce their upcoming products. Barad Dur is dropping on June 1st (everybody already knows this), yet Lego hasn't made an official statement yet. Which the set is dropping with a LOTR GWP attached to it, so if you collect that theme, you are going to WANT to get it day one. But it's a BIG expensive set, so Lego is only giving people TWO WEEKS to prepare for it finically. This is just POOR customer relations IMO. Why couldn't Lego announce their upcoming BIG releases with PLENTY on lead up time to allow people to prepare properly?

This leads me to the BL designer program... How can a person REALISTICALLY purchase these sets, when Lego is ALREADY holding us ransom through the Icons and other lines? Most of us can't afford a $500 set and a $300 set so close to each other. So inevitably, we are forced to choose. Which this is WHY I don't even consider the BL designer sets as proper sets. I can't wait to buy BOTH sets, and the BL designer sets have such a short window to purchase. But if I choose the BL designer sets... I lose out on the RARE LOTR GWP...

I understand for the themes with smaller playset style sets, 3-6 months advanced notice might not be realistic, because Lego makes decisions on when some sets get released at the last minute (Indiana Jones TOD set). But the BIG adult sets... They KNOW plenty in advance they are happening. I'm not asking for pics, just a list with the set name, piece count, and price would be fine.

One Last thing... I FIRMLY believe Lego allows the leaks to happen currently. They seem to be working like clockwork lately, hence why I can count on the Barad Dur leaks. But if they are going to the trouble to allow "leaks," might as well just tell us the info officially. It's just... IDK pick a verb.

  5. I am CURRENTLY running my own homebrew LEGO D&D crossover. I have already posted links in this thread. Anyways, I AM looking for one more player at this time. We play every other Wed at 5pm est 10pm in the UK. I record the session, and then film actual scenes with my Lego display, and make a video on it. You get to see the "best" of the actual play session, without all the dice rolling, etc. We currently have 4 players (including myself), but only two of them are "REAL" players. What I mean by that is, my wife and one other player are playing D&D properly. My 8 year old son plays with us as well, but I simplified things for his character. I am also playing as a character and the DM. My character is only being used as a "support" type of player, leaving the actual decision making to the real players. I don't normally like to DM and play a character, but my wife REALLY wanted me to be a character as well, lol.

  6. I am doing a vidoes on ALL of my videos. I started with my Castle Armies (Crusaders, Lion Knights, Forestmen, Black Falcons, Green Dragons and Red Dragons).

I am CURRENTLY working my way through my LOTR armies. Here is my Elf army.

After LOTR I will be doing my Pirates armies!!

So the release of the set has me dipping my toes into the d&d universe and I’ve come across recently released (for free) starter campaign pdfs. Granted the one with TLG collaboration is also free to download but I don’t think WoTC have charged them anything for it. Surely the number of vip points they want for it far exceeds the printing cost incurred which is not a classy move. That being said, seeing the BL prices for it and that of the mimic gwp, clearly some are undeterred! It actually led me to use my vip points and buy the set with the hope I will eventually sell the mimic to make it a much better value proposition. Shame as I like it but I don’t value it as much as others it seems.

    Have you played D&D before?

Does ANYONE here play D&D or interested in it?

    Each to their own.
I find this hugely disappointing. Covered in stickers, bland and boring and not really scaled right to anything. Hard pass, which is a shame because I had high hopes for this set.

Fair enough. I like it though, I think it has potential.

  9. Eldorado is an absolute GEM of a set. I bought two of them, and I would LOVE a third (but Barad Dur is on the horizon). Take this however you guys want, but I have either owned or currently own, most of the Pirates and POTC lines, and I would ABSOLUTLY put Eldorado in my TOP 5, over the OG Eldorado AND Imperial Trading Post. Honestly, the ONLY other Imperial set you can argue being better is the BIG Imperial Flagship, all of the rest are a distant third.

I would also add that I wouldn't expect ANY new Imperial sets anytime soon after this. I don't think it sold very well, unfortunately, hence the early retirement. Which I also have other info, but thats just anecdotical. Evidence supports that Pirate ships sell, but forts... Not so much. So when a NEW Pirates sets gets released, I'd bet dollars to donuts that it'll be a new Pirate Ship (Hopefully SES). In the meantime, a new Harry Potter ship was leaked, and it looks GREAT, lot's of potential there.

Back to the topic, if you LOVE Imperials, don't miss the boat on this one. You'll regret it.

Any estimate on how many episodes you're likely to produce?

As long as we are enjoying making the content, and the viewers are enjoying them as well... No end in sight. Having said that, each video is quite a process. So I can't realistically over commit to them, because I will get burned out. The plan right now is to do a new episode every other week, with the off week being The Brick Chat, and the more "typical" content that I normally release.

As far as Pirates goes, as soon as the players decide to leave the Castle World, they will be running into some buccaneering, lol. The story line that I began in my Lego Pirates Adventures will be unleashed on the players VERY SOON!!
