  1. Maybe they don't even have eyestalks? I mean, if the head is functioning as the eye color, then what would be the point? I think they may be swapping the mask-knock-off feature for chomping jaws.

Plus, in-story, they may not even wear masks. That could be their face, so a mask-knock-off feature wouldn't be necessary.

This is exactly what I'm hoping is the case (I can't see a point for a mask knock-off feature when the jaw moves with any of the beast sets, that would actually be quite annoying!), but it's hard to tell for sure if tha's the case until the sets are in-hand and reviewed. But at the same time it would be useful for MOC'ing if the heads of the Beasts could also be used as masks (which I think is the case).

  2. If it turns out the jaws are static or simply used as a mask knock-off play feature, I've been studying the heads and I think there's a fairly easy mod to get the jaw to move independently on Storm and Quake Beast. I think you can swap these for these, then use these to connect the jaw to the head, and that should give jaw opening capabilities with just enough friction. I'll have to try it out and see if it works. Unfortunately this won't work on Lava Beast or UtD as they have horn attachments.

I also noticed that Storm Beast uses small beast feet for hands, a very similar technique that I used on a revamped Skull Basher (and my winning BFTGM entry... I smell a rat) which I thought was a funny coincidence (and tbh, they should have just used the balljoint already on the foot with maybe a 3 or 4M bonet, the way Storm Beast's hands attach to it's arms is kinda silly and unnecessary!).

  3. Now I've seen all the sets - I've got to say I'm really excited for Lloyd's dragon! I love the use of the Chima paw piece for it's snout, I hope that's something that makes it into the final set (unless of course these are finalised sets? I can never remember if these are prelim or final  ). Sadly the figs and villain catapult fail to excite me, but the dragon itself I think more than makes up for it.

And I'm kinda glad only this set and the Stealth Raider are the only sets that are really interesting me, which is good as I can then shovel my money at Elves and Nexo Knights instead without feeling extra guilty

I hope these get released in June in my country again, as has been the case for the last 3 years, because I can't wait for that stunning dragon! :sweet:

  4. I doubt it's out yet. Wait for Promobricks to cover it! And I'm sure we'll see it on this thread when it comes out anyway.

It just seems strange that pics of the dragon weren't added when all the other Ninjago pics came out, yet it was mentioned. I notice that Cole's Rock Roader is missing from the images as well :look:

I'm still wondering why Duplo and Juniors got pics before a major theme like Ninjago though... seems a bit odd

  5. That Stealth Raider and Salvage Mech both look fantastic! But I've got to ask a question: apparently Lloyd's Green NRG Dragon was there, but I can't find any pictures of it anywhere, which is a bit annoying as that was the one set from this wave that I wanted to see the most (and probably the only one I'm considering buying on day one). Would anybody care to provide me a link to a picture of it?

  6. Hold your horses, guys, a follow up for BIONICLE is gonna be posted on Brickset later in the day. :sweet:

Ha ha, so my friend DID listen to me after all!

I'm betting that he's posting it in response to the uproar in the Constraction community, but I'm happy that he's decided to do a Brickset article on Bionicle itself. Saves me having to ask him for slightly better descriptions I guess.

  7. So Brickset has Bionicle fans, its just Huw needs to make the effort to delegate responsibility to somebody else; instead of holding on to that responsibility and snarkiliy ignore it...

Well said. I've met most of the UK based Brickset staff and they're all very nice people, but like you, I wish Huw would hand Bionicle reporting to somebody more knowledgeable.

Congrats to TheBrickPal for the recent addition, btw. He has been doing a pretty good job so far. I think part of the issue here is that Brickset doesn't have any constraction-inclined reporters in the UK that where able to attend and therefore the job was placed on Huw. It's not like they will bring along an extra person just to report on a single theme...

That's definitely part of the issue. Given I'm already a moderator on Brickset who is based in the UK and my speciality is Constraction and one of the UK reporters for Brickset is one of my best friends, and seeing that the Constraction community in general is in uproar about the lack of coverage, I may as well try and see if I can be a reporter for next year's LTF... after all, I live closer to where LTF takes place than any of Brickset's attendees!

  8. I actually find the colour scheme described there to be much more interesting than black+trans neon green, which honestly looks really boring to me. Plus it's closer to Umarak the Hunter's colours, light blue aside.

It's the trans-light blue that I don't really like the sound of as I'm not sure how well that's going to work with Dark Red and Dark Brown. I might have preferred trans-red or perhaps trans-yellow, but it's hard to make my mind up until I see the actual product. I'm on board for Dark Red and Dark Brown since we don't see those colours in CCBS too often. But given that Dark Brown can appear almost black in certain light settings, I wouldn't be surprised if he mistook Dark Brown for black perhaps?

  9. That's...completely different than what we saw. Which means those were very, very early preliminary pictures.

And Umarak is 18 pounds, doesn't that mean he's Kopaka+Melum's price?

Nope! It's between Umarak TH's and Kopaka+Melum's price in the UK.

I'm a bit disappointed to see that the Bionicle coverage on Brickset is... not that good. Appears not even me trying to persuade one of the other reporters (who's a very, very good friend of mine) to pay more attention to Bionicle didn't really work when he wasn't going to write about them. Makes me wish I could have persuaded them to let me join them so I could give Constraction the love it deserves! :def_shrug: I'm also hoping that he might have recalled the colours of Umarak TD wrong, because dark brown, dark red and trans-light blue sounds like it won't work at all. I prefer the prelims already :look:

Hopefully some pictures from Nuremberg will put my fears about Umarak TD to rest.

  10. Well, I'm hoping that Brickset at least is more upbeat with their Bionicle information from the London Toy Fair... not least because I'm very good friends with one of their Toy Fair reporters and I actually persuaded him to pay some attention to Bionicle! Whether or not the info he notes makes it into their report or just into a personal Skype chat between me and him remains to be seen though.

But still, despite that horrible one-sentence "description" from Brick Fanatics, it's nice to see that Bionicle is getting some decent length episodes this year. The downside is that I don't have Netflix :look:

  11. Nice use of the shadow trap!

Thanks! TBH, I'm surprised nobody else has commented on the shadow trap/creature head combo yet despite it being an interesting and surprisingly simple technique that I don't think I've seen anywhere else yet. The bar connectors on the shadow trap half line up perfectly with the bar connectors on the Creature head so they can be connected to each other using 2 Exo-Force robot arms and 4 1L bars with clip.

  12. He may look cute, but one wrong move and he'll trap you with his trap-jaw mouth...

(Click on the pictures to see full resolutions. Sorry about the quality at full res, my camera really isn't suited to taking photos of LEGO in the dark English days we've been having recently)

Not much to this really. I was just playing around with some of the new 2016 Bionicle pieces and I came up with this little Shadow Trap mouthed beast. I imagine this to be some sort of Rahi-style beast, with crystalline armour, sharp crystal tail blade and deadly snapping jaws. The Creature head/Shadow trap combo I found turned out better than I'd expected.

    Comments and constructive criticism appreciated.

  13. Whoa. An impressive use of Smaug's head and wings, well done! And with those edges, that shield could be a weapon of its own...

Thanks! Indeed, it could. The edges of the shield were a last minute addition to make the shield match Draphim more.

Oh my word.. epic use of the gold flame pieces. Those legs are double the thickness, how do you do that sorcery?

Thanks! The legs use a similar concept to the General Grievous constraction figure with 2 bones side by side connected by Technic liftarms, but Draphim's legs are built quite differently.

  14. New year, new MOC. Basically I just had an idea involving using parts from the Smaug bigfig and it turned into this guy. Meet Draphim the Dragonborn:

(click the pics for higher resolutions!)

Not much to say about this guy really, except that he is an anthro dragon warrior that utilises parts from the Smaug bigfig. Plus I wanted to use that awesome printed Ninjago dragon shield piece and try some new torso and leg constructs. I also learnt that small Technic panels really work wonders for filling out arms where they use just a single bone to avoid them becoming flat. I think he came out really well, and I'm really pleased with the shield construct in particular.

As always, comments and constructive criticism appreciated :sweet:

  15. Yeah, capes are supposed to have the fuzzy side out- easiest way to see lego illustrate this is with Vezon, since he has an assymetrical cape you can see which side it instructs you to place against his back.

With that said, I have never actually done it that way as I prefer the opposite.

I actually didn't know that that's the way LEGO has the capes, suppose you learn something new every day (I don't think I even noticed Vezon's cape was asymmetrical). Even with Vezon, I placed the cape furry side inwards, because not only do I find it more aesthetically pleasing, the furry side seems to attract dust (my house gets a lot of dust, and I can see a lot of dust gathering on Phasma's cape already). It's annoying me that I can't do the same with Phasma's cape unless I have it draped over the wrong shoulder :look:

  16. Thank u very much for the explanation, I have 3 bionicle 2015 sets and 2 older hero factory sets so CCBS should be no problem i guess, i also have bought the 42032 for technic pieces...

ill see what i can build with that :)

is it also wise to purchase some of the older i.e chima CCBS sets for extra parts etc?

sorry for al the noob questions XD

Honestly, the more post-2010 Constraction sets (the CCBS ones) you can get, the better. The later CCBS sets (and especially the new Bionicle sets about to come out) tend to have more Technic in them, and that's given me quite a healthy supply of Technic without me buying any Technic sets. The Chima CCBS sets are quite good for parts if you can pick them up cheaply, the 2014 Chima CCBS sets especially have great parts selections if you can get them (some are used in this model). You can get bulk lots of CCBS from eBay or specific parts from Bricklink as well which may be cheaper than amassing lots of sets for parts.

  17. hi, love your moc!! beatifull it is :)

quick question, did u use only the skull bionicle parts or are there parts used for the build that are not in the sets, thx in advance!

Thanks! One Very Agile Cat is right, only about 20% of this MOC is actually parts from the Skull Villain sets, and most of it is just used for armour and aesthetic choices. Almost the entire inner structure is built with parts not found in the Skull Villain sets, but most of the parts used for the inner structure are actually quite common CCBS and Technic parts.

  18. Anyone spotted these in the UK yet out of interest?

Not yet. I checked my local TRU earlier today and, while they had some 2016 sets, they had no new Bionicle sets (LOADS of 2015 Bionicle sets though). I think they're due out in LEGO Stores on Thursday though, according to S@H, so not long to wait now.

  19. So, I picked up Rey and Phasma yesterday and I built them. I was quite impressed, especially since Phasma, who I thought was just going to be a silver recoloured FO Stormie with a cape, has quite a different build and a larger size to boot. I was also surprised to see that Phasma's cape is not printed - that red stripe is actually stitched onto the cape.

For those others who own Phasma, when you put her cape on according to the instructions (over the left shoulder, red stripe over the front), does the furry side of the cape face outwards? Mine does, and since usually the smooth side of capes face outwards from the character and furry side faces inwards, I'm wondering if I have one that's cut and stitched wrongly?

Just Poe and Finn left to go, but I think I might wait to pick those up, even though I want to see what Finn's head on the First Order Stormtrooper's body looks like...

  20. Finally, LEGO decided to get some of the Creatures up on the UK S@H as I noticed, and I can't quite believe their price. I thought they'd be £7.99 each. Or £9.99, like the Protectors.

Nope. They're... only £6.99 each! That makes the entire wave in GBP only £129.88. My wallet can definitely agree with that and I hope that this UK pricing continues in 2017

Note that I feel that this suddenly makes the Kopaka and Melum unity set seem like bad value at £19.99 :look:

  21. I'm surprised nobody has pointed this out on this thread yet, but the second wave of Star Wars constraction sets are (widely) available in the UK thanks to Argos! They have all 6 available for delivery or purchase instore.

Sadly, it would appear that LEGO didn't learn from UK Luke - Finn, Poe, Kylo and Phasma are ALL £19.99, with Rey and the FO Stormie being a more reasonable £14.99. Nonetheless, I still couldn't resist picking up Kylo Ren with his interesting selection of parts. What's most interesting to me is the Technic panel with balljoint that's used for both his neck and for back armour, as well as the shoulder armour in black which will be very useful to me. He's a nice figure, though somehow he feels slightly flat despite being covered in armour pieces front and back, and the lightsaber cross piece is irritating me slightly - I feel like another lightsaber piece should have gone between the cross piece and his hand, because at the moment it's difficult to pose his geared arm because the 3M bar on his lightsaber keeps colliding with his wrist. Otherwise, he's a nice figure, and I'd recommend him. Feel free to ask me questions or ask for pics of the set

    Are Rey's lightsaber pieces gunmetal?

I don't own Rey (yet), but from looking at her, I would be inclined to say that they are indeed gunmetal. Kylo Ren definitely has one lightsaber piece in gunmetal, I can tell you that

  22. they add parts progressively as they are made, there's nothing more special in december

That's not quite what I meant by my comment, I should have added that they probably close so they can do their annual warehouse stock check (I know they do this when they close BnP tp paid orders) as well as add 2016 parts as their respective sets are released worldwide.

  23. For me, BnP has always been "out of stock" of any part that was released on or after June 2015, and last time I checked while the service was still up, every part that was new in the Summer releases was not in stock, and I never got a truthful answer from Customer Service. Anyone else noticed this over the last 5-6 months or is that just me?

Anyway, as for BnP disappearing, I know it's definitely normal at this time of year, and it makes perfect sense. They usually shut down for purchases from mid December to late January, both to refresh the warehouse with new 2016 set parts and so they can deal with the inevitable missing/broken part complaints more effectively. And I'm just hoping that, while the BnP service is shut for purchases, they can also fix the "out of stock" problems all new pieces from June 2015 onwards seem to have had and they'll be available to purchase upon re-opening (along with parts from the January release 2016 sets). Well, one can hope!

  24. UK prices for Onua, Kopaka+Melum and Umarak are now known as well thanks to S@H. I can definitely agree with the Unity set's price, plus Umarak's only £14.99... :cry_happy:

Now I have to wonder if the small Toa and Creature's UK prices can be found by URL hopping since they're not showing up on S@H listings, but I think they'll be £12.99 and £9.99 respectively like last year. Though I wish LEGO would stop this USD=GBP silliness, the price points would have been better at £11.99 and £7.99 for the medium and small sets respectively :hmpf_bad:
