  1. Ok, I don't know if this is usual but I have 50 9V Straight Tracks as my straight aways, and then a 4 piece curve, my train will sometimes slow down on the turns, depends on the notch I have it turned to, so it pretty much means your fine, unless the plywood is beending the track upward. It would be nice if we could see a picture.

  2. I used tape, because tape can be removed easily. How did you manage to rig up 2 XL PF motors? I barely have room for one....

Anyways, I think part of the problem is that the front wheelset kinda bobs up and down on turns, pressing the buffer against the tracks and making it loose.

How did I manage? *cough* modification. I made the thing an 8 wide and made it 6 or 8 studs longer. I bought 2 Emerald nights, and since i have 2 passenger cars 6 wide i decided to make them 8 wide. hope that gave you an idea of how i made it with 2 XL PF's. :classic:

  3. There are benefits to Power Functions. for starters, there are more doable layouts. Also, the PF motor seems to be slightly stronger than the 9V motor. YOu can also control trains individually. You can buy rechargable battery packs, and charge them while they are still in your train. You can also hide cables pretty easily. As much as I prefer 9V, I've accepted that 9V is over, never coming back, and PF is what we have now. Luckily it is easy to convert any 9V train into PF with a simple cable. If you build a "Power Functions" car you can hide all the PF stuff behind the train, and have a hidden cable going into the actual train to power the motor.

Yes there are benefits, but after the battery box starts to lose it's juice you need to replace the battery box and no one likes stopping the train and then opening the body, removing the battery box, put a new one in, connect the wires, then let it continue. With a 9V you can just let it rest, no worries about problems, all I really need to do is switch the track and change the train, very little effort needed. Yes 9V track is starting to get pricey but it is time to stock up on 9V track. Really I don't care what you say about 9V I love 9V, I'm probably going to switch to PF but that will be a last ditch effort to trains, but right now it looks like 9V will be around for me, i'll just buy some PF trains, sell the PF's and replace it with 9V. GO 9V!!!!!

  4. Thanks KD for the news but I'm sorry but i'm getting tired of TLG coming out with Police sets, they should really continue with with an old theme just change it up (Space Police), or GET BETTER DESIGNERS that come up with more City sets because that's what most people want right? I don't know what most people want, but they really need to come out with more city sets.

  5. I agree and that is because I also created an elevated rail and as time progressed my supports became larger. Here are some of my pics from Brickworld to help you out. I do have to say the new passenger train as an elevated rail train looks nice.

I remember seeing this layout there, I really liked that train, wasn't there a guy with PF trains. Your Train Station was very big and detailed. If i wasn'tr mistaken this was in the....uh....oh god I forgot the room, it was in the main ballroom.

If you walked around the ballrooms I had a 2 wide layout in the batanic Ballroom. Plan on being back at BW 2011? See you there, hopefully.

  6. This is very cool, the red carpet is very cool. The little popcorn/food stand is really cool, did you use life lites for that?

This is a very cool building, i've been trying to build a cinema but nothing good has come out of mine. keep up the good work!

  7. Remember that the Emerald Night is a semi-exclusive along the lines of, say, Cafe Corner, or the Imperial Ship.

The cargo train you mention is a full retail one.

Also, not just diesels. LEGO made some e-locs as well! And those are pretty cool too, and come with several cars. ;)

So my idea for the future is more e-locs!

I completely forgot about those, The Metroliner, and the Cargo Railway are very cool and beautiful, but I still think Diesel is better loioking, well e-locs are cool, especially the new Passenger train (looks nice) and the old white one. I think they are sleak and are good for speed. So I have changed my mind that both e-locs and Diesels are very cool and beautiful

  8. That is actually really good, I once spent 3 weeks building a 4 baseplate long bridge for 2 Trains to run on, it took forever, I used all my red and yellow. The Bridge was only used once because it couldn't handle the weight from my 2 trains, each was pulling about 8 pounds each, that means my bridge had to hold more than 15 pounds of weight. So I had to take it apart, anyway, very good design.

  9. Well I kind of like the violence, only in a few sets, if they are going to have violence in a set it will most likely be in a police set, but majority of those sets are chasing. So no, because there wouldn't be any good sets with lots of weapons, the only good sets with violence would need parts like BrickForge and BrickArms.com

  10. 9V has been decomisioned from what I have heard from TLG. Also when I was at Brickworld 2010 I asked one of the head designers if 9V would ever be broguth back, NO he said, and that was the end of the conversation, so if I were you, STOCK UP WHILE YOU CAN, I have already bought 120 pieces of 9V straight track and I plan on buying some motors in a while. Don't plan on the prices going down, they will slowly start going up. Go to Bricklink.com for cheap 9V track, that's where I get all mine.

    LONG LIVE 9V!!!!! :sing:

  11. There's no reason LEGO couldn't make new molds for monorail track if they wanted to though.

That would be nice, but I like the 9V monorail, the only way I would switch to a new monorail, it needs to be cheaper than $12 a track, it ran on PF's and it was very detailed. but I highly dought TLG will make monorail.

Back on the Train ideas, The Emerald Night was very beautiful and detailed it had 1-2 flaws when used. First one was the Power Functions, it never worked the greatest when it ran on PF's. On sharp turns it would lose traction. Second off it only came with one Passenger Car, TLG must've never thought of it's customers wanting a second or even a third car. I still think the Emerald Night it nice, but TLG should really go back to diesel engines. Take the Cargo Train from 2003 as an example, it was very compact, had very nice detail, came with 3 cars, and is still one of my favorite Diesel trains.

From my train collecting experience the only good trains where diesel and those were the most detailed (Santa Fe, Cargo Train, Cargo Railway, Freight and Crane Railway, And the BNSF locomotrive) Those trains were very nice looking, some were quite realistic.

So idea's for future trains, DIESEL!!!!

  12. This theme for Lego is actually quite good from what I thought it would be, PoP is actually doesn't have very detailed sets, but i've bought quite a few of the sets and made a very detailed castle with the pieces. Characters aren't really all that great, just a few cool looking torso's and head gear but I think PoP is some what a waste of Lego, TLG didn't do all that great putting lots of detail into the sets.
