bingowaldorf Posted December 15, 2023 (edited) I recently got back into trains with set 60197 and I was thinking about how else I could use the powered up components. As a child I always drooled over the My Own Train section of the catalogue, and I thought since maybe I could build my own with a battery tender instead of 9v. This prototype extends the coal tender so that the battery box can we held low in the center and maintain the same height as the original. My only concern is it may have a hard time going around turns now with a wide wheelbase. I guess I will find out when I can order extra train wheels from PAB! I couldnt figure out how to attach these images so here are the links sorry about that! https://imgur.com/6yIoljv https://imgur.com/XJTX8Ot https://imgur.com/kuWdcie Edited December 15, 2023 by bingowaldorf
idlemarvel Posted December 15, 2023 Maybe you could put the motor in the tender and the battery/hub in the goods wagon. That way you could return the tender to its original length and avoid the long wheelbase.
and_ampersand_and Posted December 15, 2023 The wheelbase on the tender should be fine, Lego has released 2 axle rolling stock with 8 studs between wheelsets before, for instance the livestock car from 60052 or the box car from 3677.
SDLgo9 Posted December 20, 2023 I'm piecing one together at the moment, but I'm taking the easy option: making the tender one brick higher so the hub fits inside it.
