At least three of the designs were based on background characters, with the possible exception being the bright blue one with purple splotches.

The blue Mando seems to be based on the Death Watch/Clan Vizsla warriors, who do have purple accents on their helmets:

I’ve recently been reflecting on the state of Star Wars these past years and I can truly say that we should all feel lucky to have so much Star Wars content decades after the first movie released in 1977,with TCW returning and rumors of a High Republic trilogy, and last year alone with the Mandalorian, ROS and Jedi: Fallen order was such an incredible year for new interesting content that it’s disheartening that TLG hasn’t been taking advantage of that. Still taking the easy way of “what will sell” rather than giving us all the new exciting stuff we’ve seen on screen, of the TFF waves, all but one set (pasana speeder chase) were remakes of some sort. And seeing yet another landspeeder, x-wing, snow speeder etc is just boring.

ill say that all of those sets are updated and are very well designed, but I hope we get a bit more of a leap of faith and trust from TLG that the new designs will sell just as well if not better. We need the Razorcrest, the Mantis from Fallen Order, the Night Buzzard. Even from the OT and PT we’ve never gotten the Mon Calamari cruiser, Yavin IV, Jedi temple, Hammerhead cruiser etc.

Come on LEGO, I have faith in you guys, have some faith in us too.

But they are in the business of making “what will sell”, otherwise they’d go out of business. Casual fans or parents may not recognise more obscure vehicles/ships. I would expect to see The Razorcrest released at some point and probably more to come from The Mandalorian not because it’s interesting to hard-core fans but to the masses. The AT-ST Raider and Mandalorian battlepack are constantly sold out, at least in my part of the world.

Just like @Markalus said lego is in the business of selling things. Most of the TFF sets being remakes of some sort wasn't even their fault, you can blame Lucasfilm and their lack of creativity for that. And they don't have ''trust issues'' with us, we AFOLS are just a tiny fraction of the total amount of customers they have. Most people who buy these sets most likely aren't even big fans of Star Wars. Which is exactly why we've never gotten giant setpieces like the Mon Calamari cruiser and the Jedi Temple, most of the consumers that would buy sets like that are AFOLS and we simply aren't with enough people for lego to solely rely on our spending habits

I think I saw the AT-ST on shelves exactly once. I ordered mine off Amazon. And when I got my Mandalorian Battle Pack a few days ago, it was the only one left on the shelf.

I think this bodes well for future waves of Mandalorian content. I shudder to think how high in demand the first set to contain Baby Yoda will be . . and I know I’ll be right there lining up to buy it, too. (Especially if it’s the Razorcrest.)

Knowing lego they will either put him in every single Mandalorian set to come out or just one very expensive set

Is there a possibility that we receive some information from London toy fair the upcoming days?

Short answer: no.

Slightly longer answer: most likely not since the new sets - if they’re even there in the first place - are displayed in a secret, separate showroom that not many people have access to and those who have aren’t allowed to disclose what they’ve seen there :shrug_oh_well:

Dont know if I buy that argument, basically all Ninjago and Nexo Knight set in that aspect are obscure, n atleast Ninjago is a theme that is relaible money cow for lego.

My experience is that most relatives and adults for that matter have no Idea what they buy, the just buy from a theme the kids want and then just try to verify that the kid doesnt already own that set

They do have some purple, but I disagree with the basis. The purple on the figure is more like splashes, not accents, like that somewhat annoying large purple splotch off-center on the helmet. And I know the figures appear to be brighter due to the low lighting in the scenes some of the background mandos are in, but these are brightly lit and definately not a medium azure.

Yes, these sell out FAST in my experiance too. I managed to get the at-st raider day one from lego's online store, but it was incredibly difficult to track down the mando packs. (ended up getting them from a target)

Wouldn't it be hilarious if they put him in enough cheap enough sets that he's worth like $3 on bricklink, with all that's happening with baby yoda merchandise?

I meant that LEGO may have used the Death Watch Mandos as inspiration, then given the Minifig a more cobbled-together appearance to match the others. Alternatively, they may have been working from concept art.

All four figures were based on costumes shown in the show. Someone lightened various screenshots and identified them all, including the purple splotch one. I don't remember where it was posted but I can't imagine it would be that hard to find if you need to see for yourself.

I think it's a bit different between fantasy themes and licensed stuff though.  Yeah, Ninjago has ventured into some pretty unexpected subthemes, but people like the characters and kids aren't going to analyze every nuance of the set or subtheme, they'll just see "Oh, flying pirate ship!  Cool!" or whatever.  With Star Wars, it's very likely that most people have seen the source material, and if given a choice between, say, an X-Wing or Millenium Falcon and the Mon Calamari Cruiser, chances are that people either don't even know what Home One is (I think it got about 30 seconds of screentime from the exterior), or would rather buy the ship that it iconic.  Collectors and adults will buy anything, Lego already knows that, but the casual market and kids would rather get the stuff they know about than a more obscure ship.

On the other subject of the Mandalorian AT-ST and battle pack availability, I actually had no trouble at first finding the AT-ST, and even bought it on sale at Target for $40, but since December-ish, haven't seen it at all.  Prior to the release of the show it was everywhere, but I think there's quite a few people legitimately spending $50 just for the Mandalorian figure.  Most of the stores I've been to have had some of the 2020 sets, but I've only seen the Battle Pack once, at a Kohl's.  Even the Duel on Mustafar, Ben's Hut, and Luke's Landspeeder have been hard to find near me (I don't think I've seen the Landspeeder at all, come to think of it).

I totally agree. And yes, the AT-ST Raider was abundant (and on discount) in my area until the episode in which it featured aired, then it vanished from shelves almost overnight and has not been restocked. Any set with ‘baby Yoda’ is undoubtably going to be a huge seller for Lego.

Definetely hope to get some sets based off the Siege of Mandalore, maybe we even have a small chance of finally getting a RoTS Padme?!

I totally missed the trailer! They remade at least one scene from "Revenge of the Sith", if I'm not mistaken :) (Sorry for the OT!)

IDK about padme, but lots of potential for sets here. (and just a great trailer in general.)

It's high time for an updated gunship, not to mention the possibility of the phase II clone becoming more prevalent in sets (bugs me how the plain one was only in an advent calendar and a wave 1 microfighter), as well as clone wars minifigures with normal faces, especially Ahsoka and Maul. Let's hope Lego will give us a good number of Clone Wars sets in the coming waves...

(Not to mention it's the perfect time for a 501st BP)...

100% agree. Looking at the trailer it seems like there's going to be some large battles going on so it would be the most reasonable and profitable choice to make sets with a lot of clones. And if they do make a clone battle pack, it doesn't need to be 501, it could just be any standard clone. But no named characters, which is dumb to do overall.

What do you think are the chances of an AT-TE and Republic Gunship with AT-OT?

Without trying to get too wish list-y, it's been 7 years since our last Attack of the Clone wave (and before that, it was 2002(!) for our last AoTC wave).  The reason I bring that up is because that's been our last major assortment of ships/vehicles that are regularly appearing in the Clone Wars.  We also got a Venator Class Cruiser back in 2009, and none since.  So, are we due for a Republic Cruiser, Gunship, AT-TE, Dropship, etc etc, absolutely, but will we get it?  Who knows, and honestly if Ep 9 didn't just come out I'd say it would be a no-brainer, but since I'm sure there will be a second wave of TRoS sets this summer, that could put Clone Wars stuff on the back burner, and by the time the next wave comes out (which would be late 2020/early 2021), TCW may not be as relevant in people's minds anymore, and we could miss out.

This is 100% speculation on my part, so who really knows what will happen.  I guess once the mystery 4th set of the spring wave is unveiled we might know a bit more of what their plans are.

Any Clone Wars sets will most likely sell better than a sequel set due to the source material so I don't really see relevancy as the problem here. It's more wether or not lego wants to actually remake these sets

The amount of prequel stuff we can get is at a high right now if Lego makes clone wars sets.

(Perfect opportunity for 501st bp and a remade gunship because we havent gotten one in 7 years)
