Paul B Technic Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 A few months ago I started working on a trailer which was going to be used behind the Unimog U400 (set 8110) to carry earth moving equipment. After working on this on and off for a few weeks I moved my focus to Unimog attachments and this was left to one side half built. A couple of weeks ago I got that trailer back out and started working on it again, after a few hours I decided that it was not working and I was not happy with it, due to to this I pulled it all to pieces and started fresh with a new idea of a logging / equipment trailer. Below are a series of photos of this, while it is shown attached to the back of my Unimog U400, I have also added a towing hitch to the back of my off road aerial bucket truck and I will also be adding a towing hitch to my farm tractor and bull dozer to allow these to tow it. In the last few photos you can see it carry 5 of the different Unimog attachments I have built. Quote
Jim Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Looks like a useful piece of equipment I would try to work on the color scheme a bit. Maybe use grey for the axles and the link to the Unimog and red for the rest of the trailer. Or combine black and grey to match the Unimog. Seems like you are a big Unimog fan Quote

Seems like you are a big Unimog fan Thanks for the feedback. I did have the draw bar to the Unimog black at one point. This is still very much a WIP so I can make changes based on suggestions. I am a bit of a fan of the Unimog ;) I have started designing my next attachment which will be my weekend project... Quote
BusterHaus Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I like it, but why does it look as if the drawback is flexed upward? Is it just perspective, or is it not aligned with the hitch? Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 I like it, but why does it look as if the drawback is flexed upward? Is it just perspective, or is it not aligned with the hitch? Well spotted, the hitch on the Unimog is 1.5 studs higher than the draw bar "at rest", this is to ensure it does not come out while it is driving. Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 (edited) Nice and simple. Reminds me of the tractor trailers you sometimes see. Edited August 29, 2014 by Zblj Quote
D3K Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Nice build! I would however use a towball or something for the hitch, for it to be able to rotate around all three axis Quote
Cumulonimbus Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Looks nice, but I wondered if you took the scale into account? The Unimog is a bit of an odd vehicle because it is very short for its height, so it tends to give a wrong impression about its size in images. I get the feeling that MOC add-ons and tools are often out of scale because of this effect. I might be wrong, but a trailer like you designed could be a lot longer in real life. If you google for Unimog with trailers, you see that standard trailers are often a lot longer than the Unimog. (for some reason I can't put images of good examples here right now) I don't know if your intention was to get the realism as high as possible (it is the driving force in my MOCs), I just wanted to share my point of view. Nevertheless, nice work! Quote
Paul B Technic Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 Thanks for all the replies :) Normally I am limited by what parts I have so I build to what size I can with my parts, even if the scale is off. The goal with this was to fit on my Unimog attachments to it. Quote
