Zerobricks Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Because there does not seem to be a topic and lots of people have them, lets talk about them! As a kid (inder 5)we use to have fish but me and my cousin overfed them so yeah...they kind of popped... After that we had canarries (a pair), but one had a heart attack and the other got punsihed...so that was that... Few years later we got another pair of canarries and they lived happily until the male died... The female got sick and started to suffer legs problems, so she had to be "saved" While we still had the female canarrie we also got a pair of parrtos from people who neglected them. They lived for some 10 years, their names were Jaka (Jake) and Koki (????). Jake was a cockateil and Koki a budgie. They lived together and had no problems (with rare occasions). The budgie Koki died in 2006 due to old age. Jake is still alive to this very day and even though he dislikes human touch he is a good (albeit loud) companion. You can see two short clips from him here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcHan-OSQDg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQYZ5z2HM5Y He is also featured on some of my models and building tutorials, but I dont like to stress him out too much due to his age (over 20 years old) So what furry friends do you have? Alfadas Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 Right now, we have a dog. My sister used to have a hamster, now she has a guinea pig. When I move to my own place, I want to have some kind of reptile, like a snake or gecko. Quote
plew2000 Posted August 26, 2014 Posted August 26, 2014 I had a 33 gallon aquarium when I was 8ish? And currently I own a 55 gallon tropical freshwater aquarium, lots of little fish and the star of the tank..the rope fish. Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 And which ones you guys prefer, cats or dogs...and why? Quote
dr_spock Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I have two cats. One of them used the LEGO 1000 bricks tub as a litter box when the lid was left off. That was a lot of brick washing. The other cat likes to run off with my GBC soccer balls. Quote
BrickBob Studpants Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I'm a cat owner. Luckily, she leaves my collection alone... for the most part She almost devoured a fishing rod once, but apart from that, no major damages occurred. She also had a liking for playing with 8L antennas when she was younger Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 28, 2014 Author Posted August 28, 2014 Cute kitteh I kind of wish for an energetic dog, maybe husky or simillar, just something as crazy as me Quote
Darkdragon Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 I don't currently have any pets of my own, but I miss my dog Bullet and my cat Charlie. Bullet passed away last year and I don't have Charlie (but I heard recently that he is healthy and happy and still the best kitty ever). Quote
Aanchir Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 My family's first pet was a cat. By the time I came around, she was old and did not like kids, so my memories of her were not the fondest. My family got a dog off the Internet back in the year 2000. Her name is Cider and she's very friendly, but she's getting old and really starting to show it. She has cataracts in both eyes so she can barely see, and we can't operate on them because she has a heart palpitation that would make it extremely risky to put her under anaesthesis. But we do our best to take good care of her, and thankfully she knows the house well enough to get around most of the time. When I was a teenager I had a hamster named Goldie, and my twin brother had a hamster named Silver. The person at the pet store assured us all the hamsters were female, but it turns out they were wrong, and soon enough we had a lot more hamsters. Thankfully we found owners for most of them. Goldie died in 2007, and our family doesn't have any hamsters any more. I really love animals, and a few months ago my brother and I got to take care of my aunt and uncle's dog Sydney. She's about the same age as Cider, but she's just barely beginning to show her age (eating less and being less active). We took good care of Sydney for a little over a week, so maybe I might do more pet-sitting in the future. I really like cats, in spite of my early childhood experiences. I would love to have a cat of my own one day, but it probably won't happen until I have a place of my own since my younger brother is allergic. And I don't want to get a place of my own until I have a steady job. Quote
grum64 Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 Me, I'm a dog person. Toby's his name and here he is... Quote
frogstudio Posted August 28, 2014 Posted August 28, 2014 (edited) Nice topic! I've always owned german shepherd dogs. When the last of them died (almost 7 years ago) y decided I would not get another one, since I was moving to a place of my own and I would not be able to take care of a dog, specially during their period as a puppy. Since then, I've been missing all the company and love a dog gives, but kept firm in my decision. But life has the beauty of doing what she wants and not what we plan! About a month and a half ago, when coming back from an airsoft game, I saw a really small thing walking slowly by the rural road I was driving through. At first I thought it was a cuis (a small kind of rodent common here in Argentina), but I found it strange that it moved so slowly. I stooped the car, got down and, to my surprise it was the smallest puppy I had ever seen!!! She was almost dead, all wet, freezing (we're in winter here) and barely had a pulse. There was not much need for thinking. I wrapped her in a polar, got her into the car and drove home with her. When my wife saw her, she immediately decided to call her Renata. The nice thing is that (we didn't know), Renata means "born again"... couldn't be more appropriate! Next day, I was off to the vet, not knowing how I would manage a puppy considering my work schedule (I'm an architect, and spend half the day in the building site and the other half in the office and so does my wife). We were told she was only 10 days old and that she would have surely died if I hadn't picked her. Her health was really bad. She was full of parasites, had an hernia and was really underweight. It was a tough month, with numerous visits to the vet and with us adapting to this beautiful gift of life. She come with me to work (watch the video) and now has grown quite bigger and healthy!!! Me and my wife are really happy with this new family member!, So, for you, ladies and gentlemen, here is Renata!!!! This is how she looked whe I lifted her (she weight less than 750 grms.) And this is the face she puts when she's done something wrong and is being reprimanded! JAJAJAJAJAJAJAJAJA Though she may look something like a german shepherd, she 100% non breed!!! Zerobricks Posted August 29, 2014 Author Posted August 29, 2014 What a heartwarming story! I love how you drive her on the bike, she seems to enjoy it. Its people like you who give life meaning Quote
Yzalirk Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I'm surprised no one brought anything up about reptiles. Anyways, I may get two Bearded Dragons sometime next summer. They are awesome pets and very nice to have. I should also mention the types and colors and very awesome too. I'm not sure if I'll be getting a Silkback but a Leatherback would be awesome to have. talos Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 Growing up we only had cats, with a couple parakeets and fish tank thrown in. Now, I have 2 cats, one a stray that I adopted about 11 years ago, he is about 14 now we think. I got a 2nd cat about a year ago, from the animal shelter. They had, and still have over 100 cats to adopt, most of which don't, so I went down and got one, for free. She has been a real stand offish cat since. Won't let anyone near her, unless she is eating or so sleepy. I also have a fish pond in the garden with a lot of fish, I like to feed them and watch them swim around. They have gotten quite large, since I refilled the pond, about 8 years ago, now. As for reptiles, I have at least 2 lizards about 6" long, and a few salamanders (amphibians) in the garden, they are always around, though I can't really claim they are my pets! Haha! Quote
Gremer Posted August 29, 2014 Posted August 29, 2014 I have a Boston Terrier (Pip), a Boxer (Chloe, though we just call her Moose), and 4 cats (Scarlet, Mexi, Izzy, and Bit). Bit keeps jumping on my Republic collection, and loves to knock my AT-AP onto it's side. How can I make it stop? Quote

Zerobricks Posted August 30, 2014 Author Posted August 30, 2014 Cats and big dogs are mah thing. Can't stand small dogs, though. I dont like small dogs either... They are so agressive any annoying... Our neighbrour in first floor has one of those and its so annyoing, everytime I pass the blacony is stares at me... And if I stare back at it it just snaps, and starts barking like crazy and the owners freak out - TBH thats funny But still yeah I prefer big dogs, the closer they look like a wolf the better. Quote

JGW3000 Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 (edited) Two cats - a calico, Cleopatra, and a American grey shorthair, Petunia, who likes to "catch" LEGO bricks and take them down to the basement. There is quite a stash of all kinds of stuff down there - Nanobots, dead beatles, small rubber balls, girl's hair gizmos, and LEGO elements. The older one, Cleopatra, will sleep on building instruction books and refuse to budge, if you happen to walk away during a building session. I'm a unrealized dog person, though... Borador Posted September 4, 2014 Posted September 4, 2014 I've always had pets. My whole life. Currently have three dogs and two cats. For dogs, we have a Schnoodle, a Schkipperke/Border Collie mix, and an American Labradoodle. Our cats are... Well, one has black fur, the other has gray and white fur... I used to have a Border Collie/Labrador mix (what do you call that? A BORADOR), but she died a few years ago. Also had two other cats (Siamese/Himalayan and black and white) that so died... And when I was little, I had fish and hermit crabs. Never any birds, though. Quote
