AOW Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Hello, I tried to find somekind of a web page were the Lego Techinc offical sets prototypes were displayed. Apologies if this topic has been already discuss. Regards Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Technicbricks has some pictures of unimog and 8043 prototypes... Quote
Kronos Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 Crowkillers had some 8070 prototype pics somewhere...... Quote
allanp Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 (edited) Here are some I could find. The unimog: A link to 8043: http://www.technicbr...43-part_19.html 8462 towing it's prototype: (Can't tell if it's real or a MOC. It is a computer render). Some info on the 8480 prototypes from a Q&A with one of the designers. Q: How many prototype models of the space shuttle did you build?" A: After a year of research, the space shuttle took three designers a whole year to finish. They did nothing else, which shows how much detail goes into a technic model. Around 80 working versions were built before the final one." Q: "That seems a lot." A: "Not really-for every model in the lego technic range around 800 prototypes have been built in product development." I remember seeing a very early prototype of 8485 in person. It was very much like the plane simulator from the 8891 ideas book but twice as big with a black base (there was some 40t gears in there) and a red helicopter. The rotor blades were direct drive from a vertically mounted motor, so pretty darned fast! I also remember seeing an an early 8448 prototype. It was black and looked more like 8880 but with a front mounted blue/purple engine! Edited August 20, 2014 by allanp Quote

Blakbird Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 There is generally little to no published information on prototypes. Your only hope is early images, leaked pictures, or maybe something from the Technic blog. There was video about the development of 8275 a while back. I took a screen capture of the prototypes: Quote
Appie Posted August 20, 2014 Posted August 20, 2014 8462 towing it's prototype: (Can't tell if it's real or a MOC. It is a computer render). I think it is a MOC, since it uses soft axles around the cabin, which weren't put in sets until 1999 and the 8462 is from 1998. Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Looking at all five Unimog's beside each other you would be mistaken to think that a 6 year old made the other four compared to the one we ended up with. Quote

But 3 and 4 had some things that we should have gotten on the regular unimog such as black wheels, no clutch on the winch, etc. They were all minor things; however if you look closely at number 4 you can see it has a different gearing in the portal axles. I wonder why? Quote

Zerobricks Posted August 21, 2014 Posted August 21, 2014 Whats the actual hub gear ratio in the Mog? Maybe 12:20 is more realistic? Quote
