Wouldn't it be better to use one 12 tooth gear with a half bush on each side to make it inline with the 20 tooth gear?

No, because the 12t gears move horizontally. If I used just one 12t gear, the transmission would disengage in one of the gears.

I just tested your current and I also tested it with instead of three 12 teeth gears, two and on each side a half bush gear. It still slips but way more force is required to make it slip, and I'm not sure if two Xl's have this power... You might give it a try.

I've been working on the 6x6, mainly strengthening the rear chassis (nothing too interesting). However, I want your opinion: what should the rear end be? Here are a few of my choices:

1) The original idea, a tow truck rescue arm

2) A tilting tow bed, also extendable.

3) Military missile launcher

4) Standard rear cargo bed

Which one do you like best? (Or is there a better one that I left off the list?)

After combining votes from my Facebook page, Flickr, and Eurobricks (oh, and my own vote, of course), the Rescue Arm is the final build. I've started working on the "deck" around it, and as you can tell, it's much too high.

This calls for a chassis redesign... >.<

Finally a build update!

The rear end is basically done, just a few minor details left. I rebuilt the rear chassis entirely, lowered the rear bed, added a rear bumper (with lights!), and installed the towing arm. I've also been doing occasional test drives, and it drives wonderfullly. Steering could use a little reinforcement though...

I think you should build ''the deck'' in black... But grey doesnt look bad either

Is the crane remote controlled?

is there last axle has stiring ?

Yes, the rear axle is steered.

Is the crane remote controlled?

Nope, both LA's are manually controlled. The winch, however, is motorized.

Progress is slow, but it's there. Only a few days left until school starts again, and a little over a month until BrickCon (and I still have to make a model for that). Meanwhile, the cab is coming along nicely.

There won't be an interior because of the gearbox and electronics (5 motors, 2 switches, 2 receivers, and 2 gearboxes, plus 3 pairs of lights). However, all four doors open, and so does the hood. Also, you can see the maximum steering lock in this picture.

What tire is this? what are the dimensions?

The tires are Axial Ripsaw 1.9 tires. 109mm outer diameter. These tires are so sticky that I often find LEGO bricks stuck to them when I move the model from my desk.

Thats one foxy looking truck! Nice detail with rear axle steering, though I think the truck would work just fine without it.

You know whats next?

VIDEO of the foxy beast!
