VKTechnic Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Newest update: Completion! See the completed model here! I've had a 3rd pair of Axial Ripsaw 1.9 tires lying around for quite some time, and I figured it's about time to use them. I'll be building a 6x6 truck based on this: So far, I have the axles done: Thoughts? Edited September 7, 2014 by Victor Kojenov (TFOL) Quote
AndyCW Posted August 7, 2014 Posted August 7, 2014 (edited) Good luck with the cv joints between the two rear axles. I have never succeeded at getting them to function in the manner it appears that you will be using them. What features do your axles have? -lockers? -gear ratio? -portal hubs -4 links/torque arms? -caster/kingpin/ackerman? v/r Andy Edited August 7, 2014 by AndyCW Quote

Gear ratio is 5:1. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 It looks impressive with all those tires! I agree that those CV joints will fail very fast even if they are geared down in the portals.. Quote

I was gonna use the CV joints if there's a lot of stress on the driveshaft (from the 4-link geometry). I just tried it with UV joints and it works alright :P Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Looks really awesome so far! Maybe you can make a Mercedes Amg 6x6, Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Now we are talking! Impressive and I already love it! The same here....the joints look too fragile! Quote
HorcikDesigns Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 Am I right that you have differentil lock in the first and third axle? Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 Am I right that you have differentil lock in the first and third axle? There are no differentials at all on this truck. 1st and 3rd axle are both steered, though Quote
TheItalianBrick Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 There are no differentials at all on this truck. LOL straight to the point! Quote

Technyk32231 Posted August 8, 2014 Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) Are you sure that those CV joints won't break? It may be stronger to use universal joints with an extending driveshaft. This does look very nice so far though. Edited August 8, 2014 by Technyk32231 Quote

VKTechnic Posted August 8, 2014 Author Posted August 8, 2014 (edited) Update! Good news: I have a chassis. Bad news: I also have grinding gears. Looks really awesome so far! Maybe you can make a Mercedes Amg 6x6, Does your Mini AMG need a big brother? Edited August 8, 2014 by Victor Kojenov (TFOL) Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Who knows... :) Why is the front axle tilted so much? Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Who knows... :) Why is the front axle tilted so much? It's the simplest way to add negative caster to the front axle. Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 If you think its needed But watch out for the angle of U joints. Quote
Doc_Brown Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Looking good! Those tires sure are awesome! I would lose the front caster tho, it just isn't needed and will help save those joints! Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Good news: I'm back to working on the 6x6. Bad news: the new gearbox is still clicking. Quote
Black-Build Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Can you post some pictures of the gearbox? Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 (edited) Can you post some pictures of the gearbox? I'll model the gearbox in LDD and put up some screenshots from there, it will be clearer. Edited August 12, 2014 by Victor Kojenov (TFOL) Quote
VKTechnic Posted August 12, 2014 Author Posted August 12, 2014 Never mind, here's a picture of the gearbox, with the skipping gears circled. Quote
cgg199 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Wouldn't it be better to use one 12 tooth gear with a half bush on each side to make it inline with the 20 tooth gear? Quote
