HenrikLego Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) This summer the Tall Ships Races (races for sail training sailing ships) comes to my hometown Fredrikstad in Norway. One of the participating ships is Christian Radich, a norwegian ship with Oslo as it's homeport. I have used the winter to digitally build this ship in 1:60 scale, and I'm now in the final stages of completing it in real bricks. Hopefully I will be done before the ship arrives in Fredrikstad 12th of July. The model will then be displayed in one of the exhibition halls close to where Christian Radich is located during the event. Here is a photo of the real ship, and below it is pictures from the building progress. I will continue to update this topic as I'm building. Edited June 8, 2014 by HenrikLego Quote
Mutant Orc Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 Wow, impressive project! looks like a great start, I'm already impatient to see the finished product!! Quote
HenrikLego Posted May 21, 2014 Author Posted May 21, 2014 Thank you for your nice comment. I have continued to work on the central part of the hull, I'm about halfway with it. I've also made templates for the sail now. Quote
rollermonkey Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 ...and I thought doing the cheese slopes on Tower Bridge was bad. That's got to be at least 1000 of them! Quote
HenrikLego Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 Fortunately, cheese slopes in these colors are cheap. But very time consuming to put together! Total amount of cheese-slopes for hull: White: 1400 Red: 960 Blue: 460 Total: 2820 Quote

HenrikLego Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Done with the middle sections. Attaching them to the rest of the hull will be a challenge, but the first part is now attached nicely. Quote
Legogal Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 Wow! That hull is quite impressive. This will weigh a ton finished. Looks great so far! Quote
HenrikLego Posted May 24, 2014 Author Posted May 24, 2014 Hull is now fully mounted! From the back: From the side: From front: Quote
HenrikLego Posted May 30, 2014 Author Posted May 30, 2014 I have continued with the front deck and the rooms under the top deck. Missing some parts here and there, soon to be ordered from Bricklink. I'm now working on a lot of details in LDD for the deck. Will post an update when I'm finished with all the digital work. Quote
Milan Posted May 30, 2014 Posted May 30, 2014 I like how you are organized for this project. Great build so far! Quote
HenrikLego Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Have been working a bit in LDD, still somethings to do, but here is a picture of the progress so far! Quote
HenrikLego Posted June 8, 2014 Author Posted June 8, 2014 More LDD-work. Have ordered all the parts I need now, so just waiting for them to arrive so I can build the rest of the ship! The templates for the sails are cut out and ready for the sailmaker. Quote
Mutant Orc Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Cool! It already looks impressive, it'll be great when finished! Quote
HenrikLego Posted June 13, 2014 Author Posted June 13, 2014 Started to build some of the details yesterday while watching the first match in the world cup. Now I need to take the deck off again to add more 1x1 bricks with 1 knob. Quote
Csacsa234 Posted June 14, 2014 Posted June 14, 2014 This is wonderful, the hull is beautifully done, it's great to see such a great sailing ship which is not built in the pirates era. Can't wait to see it finished, I really love it. Quote
HenrikLego Posted June 21, 2014 Author Posted June 21, 2014 Thank you for your nice comment! I've added some more details now, and the only thing left now is some more details on the mast, the rigging and the sails. Quote
HenrikLego Posted June 24, 2014 Author Posted June 24, 2014 All sails are now attached and the whole structure is quite stable. I've managed to move it down the stairs and in to the living room without any major problems. Two weeks until the Tall Ships Races exhibition, so still time to do minor fixes, but I'm now at a stage where I'm quite pleased. Quote
grum64 Posted June 24, 2014 Posted June 24, 2014 (edited) Staggeringly good & truly, truly impressive. Edited June 24, 2014 by grum64 Quote
