Hi all,

i have one simple question about the saveness of the following construction (just a "hacked" prototype to demonstrate my question):

worm_1.jpg

please have a look at the green marked area where the worm-axle B crosses the axle A: My goal is that both axles can absolute independendly rotate without influencing each other - my visual inspection during manually rotating both axles says, all is ok, even if the distance between the wormgear and the axle a is very very narrow in the green "contact-point", but as far as i can see there is some "air"... so my question to the experts: Am i right? Can i savely use such a construction?

Thanks a lot!

Yes this is legal. You can even have a bush on the axle below the wormgear and then they can still rotate independently.

Just waht i wanted to say. But remmber centrally placed 1 stud long bush, not the half studded ones.

Yes there is a gap between them, even a double bush will fit on if its directly above the worm gear so it sits in the groove on the bush.

Um... where else would you put a 8 teeth gear that you want to drive with the worm gear, for example?

well, the prototype has been gone - here the final result:

lower-bearing.jpg.jpg

The yellow arrow marks the lower bearing of a vertical axle, the worm drives a 8 teeth gear...

$64-question: What is this?

BTW: Thank you for your helpful answers!

Could be wrong but it kinda looks like the 2005 mobile crane?

EDIT: just found your other thread
