Jim Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I mentioned in another topic that I still have four sets waiting to be built. The pickup truck I just bought to complete my collection, but I never had the urge to build it. The flatbed is a great set (i.e. it has the looks and the reviews are positive), so I bought it not too long ago, because it will be out of production soon. And the other two are small newer sets, to complete the flatbed order. I have found myself in a bit of a Technic dip lately so these models are still waiting to be built. I am wondering if more people here have unopened boxes waiting to be built (or maybe waiting to be sold in the future)? http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=9395-1 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8109-1 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=42007-1 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=42004-1 Quote
S.I Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I had the super star destroyer sitting unopened in my closest for 9 months because I was alternatingly missing the time and the motivation to build it. Ended up building it around new years. Currently I have the old space shuttle sitting half built on my desk, every bushing is cracked which sort of demotivated me, I have most of my parts packed up and havn't gotten around to looking for the box with my bushings. However, the new crane arrived on Thursday and already is half built, on top of the space shuttle. Quote
captainmib Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I can't seem to find 8109 anywhere. Yet, at the lego event in the netherlands (october/november somewhere) they had a ton of them. You know any shop that has it, and Is the pricing still the same? As for the sets: Build them all! That's why you buy lego in the first place right? Or if you want to get rid of 8109... Quote
Theo van Vroenhoven Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I also have a few sets sitting in the basement waiting to be built: 8070 - 8110 - 9396 - 9398 There are several reasons I didn't build them until now: - No space to display them - No quiet place to build them and to really enjoy the build - Not enough spare time to come to rest and build them I am really looking forward to building them, especially 8110. But I want it be a great experience and am waiting for the right time and place. And the feeling that I still have a lot to build makes me happy as well ;) Quote

Even though some sets are less interesting, I buy them for my collection and to be surprised by the building experience. After the build I always break down the set (within weeks or months), so I never keep models on display. The 8109 is still pretty commonly available in The Netherlands. At local retailers, webshops and toy stores. Maybe not at all of them, but it's not hard to come by. I bricklinked all the parts and when I finished ordering, for some reason I never got around building it. But today I started the build!! Last time I cheked I could still find a lot of them. http://www.brickexclusive.com/nl/lego-technic-truck-met-laadplatform-8109.html?utm_source=beslistslimmershoppen&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=beslist&utm_content=discarded Edited July 7, 2013 by Gekke Ted Quote
zux Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Bought too much sets this year without any occasion, which isn't good for my wallet. I have 42000 still MISB, was nice discount in local store, waiting for a proper occasion. Quote
Zerobricks Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Cant stand an unpened set! Always build them. Besides i cant afford to buy like 4 in a month. Quote
Balrog Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 Prices for the Flatbed Truck are ridiculous here in Germany. I used the building instructions of it to build a flatbed trailer for my 8258 B-pickup mod. I build it just with the flatbed lift and used the other function to make some kind of outriggers. I must say, that the flatbed itself is a very interesting mechanism and totally worth the build. S.I Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 (edited) It had a list price of 90 here I think, and it just disappeared in many shops without ever being discounted. Captainmib: I can keep an eye out for 8109 next time I visit the stores in town, but it'll be at least 90 euros + shipping, if any still have it :( Edited July 7, 2013 by S.I Quote
Bricktrain Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I have a few city sets not yet opened but all my technic are opened, but there are a few older technic sets I have downloaded instructions for that I havent got around to building yet. My big crane is a project I have sitting around, I get some inspiration sometimes and do some more work on it but it is something that needs the right frame of mind. Getting closer though, hopefully will have it finished this year. Quote
jadedomg Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 I have 42006 in the box still since the house is going through renovations and I have no where to build or display anything. Quote
Eigenbroetler Posted July 7, 2013 Posted July 7, 2013 ive got a 8265, 9392, 8069, 42006 and a 9397 unopened, but all those sets i have multiple sets of, except 8265. Unfortunately i have bought 23 technic sets this year. a few small sets, but most of them is mid range to flagships. and i have bought a lot of powerfunctions to rc them as much as possible. 2000 euros later, my wallet is crying. Doc_Brown Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 "THERE IS ALWAYS TIME FOR LEGO!!!" I'm very sad to read all this! I always build a set the day I get it, unless its for xmas of Birthday. :) Quote

Are you going to make time for that or does it have to stand in the back of the line? EV3 will skip the line and take precedence over normal Technic Let me try to explain a bit more. What I like about Technic sets is the Technic part. The functionality, moving parts, gears etc. I am a big fan of fully PF models, like the Excavator and Bulldozer. But for some reason, once in a while, I am tired of getting the same models over and over again (crane, service truck, etc). My other area of interest is Star Wars, Lego or not. What I like about these sets is the aesthetics. I love the greebles and the overall look of these models. But building with normal "brick on plate" techniques is not so interesting as Technic models. Since I am a software developer, obviously Mindstorms is on the top of my list. I own two NXT sets, but I haven't done nearly enough with it to justify the € 1000 investment (with extra parts). With the new EV3 set coming I am planning on doing more with it (WiFi FTW) and combining it with the aesthetics of Star Wars sets. So I am planning on building some robots and finish them with SNOT/Model Team looks. So by looking at the robot you wouldn't notice the Technic interior. That's the plan hehe But I have so many other interests that I am having different phases of working with Lego, developing software, mobile applications, websites etc. That's why Lego sometimes is not on the top of my list. Oh, and then there's also the girlfriend who needs some time in my schedule The best thing for me would be having millions in my bank account, so I can stop working and dedicate myself fulltime to my hobbies Edited July 8, 2013 by Gekke Ted Quote

We literally tore the place apart. That didn't help in getting more time to build. Luckily our brand new living room and kitchen are perfectly suited for building again On 7/8/2013 at 10:49 AM, grum64 said: I've not got new unopened sets I've yet to build but have loads of used sets I've bought recently that I've yet to build: A few are sets I've built before but sold, and are unbuilt replacements.
