Hello all! I have lurked around Historia for a bit a long time ago, but only recently got back into Lego - so I figured I would join to kick-start my building again and have some fun! Still working on a sig fig and choosing a faction, but I am excited to get started!

Welcome to the guilds!  It's always great to have new members joining up (and returning members! @Judge of the Wastelands ), can't wait to see what you decide and come up with! :classic:

Welcome to the Guilds! Take your time deciding, but don't be afraid to get your feet wet and start building something and posting comments on the work of others! And feel free to ask any questions you might have in this here thread. We're helpful folk around here. Except for @Garmadon. He bites new people. Or maybe I'm thinking of that one guy from Nocturnus?

Hey what?  The only thing that bites in Varylrio is steel, cold steel.

(Which is also kinda rough, I'll admit    But better than rogue pumpkin pies any day!)

But if you just want hugs, than Avalonia is definitely the place for you.  From trees.

Plenty of things bite in Nocturnus, in fact!  So run, hide, or bite back! :dangry:

Hey everyone, sorry I have not been around for a while.  I wound up taking a new job and moving and am still trying to get settled.  I'm only in temp housing and it may be this way for some months, or even a year, so I won't have access to bricks during this time.  I'm hopeful that our new place will have a good Lego room, but until I can get into a permanent place, I will likely be mostly on the forums here.  I will likely be sparsely on here until I can get everything unpacked, since I'm typing this sitting on the floor, but I wanted to stop in and let everyone know I'm still here!

I’m in a quite similar situation. I am just buying/trading/selling minifigs and figbarfing. I hope I will be in a new home in September.

Hey all, Phy/Pyro5050 here. i was a builder in LoR from Merlins Beard forum a long time ago, apparently it is defunct now. i had packed up my LEGO 6 years ago when my daughter was born and i needed my LEGO room to have her a room. then my son was born, and then i started a new business so i never got to get a LEGO room till now. bought a new house and have a small space where i can get back into building. always loved DnD, Video games, Hockey, LEGO and have a large fasinaction with Castle, Pirate and mythical creatures. i also had started getting into trains before i packed my LEGO up again... so i have a lot of train stuff that i am eager to work into builds. i would not say i am a beginner builder, but i totally am not a journeyman or even a master, so dont expect amazing crazy builds. just stuff that makes me happy. :)

i have a old flickr album of some of my older stuff. sorry the photos suck, good news is that our home business also meant we got a photobooth so i should have better pictures.

i was thinking of joining Mitgardia as it is more the style i love to build in. while i am capable of building battle scenes i really enjoy building more peaceful or stealth style builds. small combats and the like, assasinations... i found the bigger builds i just lose focus on and it never comes out how i like. :)

anyhow. if another guild could use my not so great talents, i am more than happy to go there. i like to build nordic style or classic medival style.

Thanks!

Phy

Welcome to the guilds!  To be honest, a lot of the guild-vs-guild competition has settled down and although every guild would love to have another builder, you just join the guild that you're excited to build for!

Hello Phy! The Guilds welcome all who wish to build in the fantasy world we call home! :classic: Since you love DnD and LoR (haven't heard that name in a while!), I'm sure you stumble here upon some lore or part of Historica that makes you want to start building!

Looking forward to your first build or sigfig!

Hi, it's been a while since I've been following your mocs, and now that I've finally created my Eurobricks account and plan to start building mocs myself, I'm thinking about joining a guild. I wanted to read the post about how to make a small collection more useful when getting started with GOH. Does anyone know if this post is still available? The link directs you to Kaliphlin sign-up page. Thanks in advance.

I have to imagine that the post is still there because it's not likely to have been deleted, but with that link being messed up, I have no idea how to find it.

Welcome, Ben! I too started out with a small collection when I joined. My tips are: firstly, sort your Lego! Especially bricks, plates, tiles, plants, animals and minifigure parts. That makes it easier to see of which parts/colours you have (not) enough to work with. And secondly, strategic purchases. A bit of an open door, but buying sets that contain useful parts and minifigs helps growing a usable collection.

Ok, thanks, it's a pity.

Hello everyone!

As a (future) new member, there are a few things I would like to ask…

1) Is there something “forbidden” in the builds? In the pirate forum, for instance, we have a complete ban on slavery and on (functioning) steam engines

2) Settlements can be built only within the land of one’s faction? Do all buildings need to be associated with a settlement?

3) Similarly, can a character move freely among the land of the Guilds, or does he need some type of authorisation?

4) Are non original Lego parts allowed?
Thanks!

Welcome!  Glad to have you on board!  You asked some good questions. Let me try and answer them:

We avoid real world religions and politics, as these things aren't necessary to Lego and generally are very sensitive areas.  The era of Historica specifically does not include firearms/smokeless powder/cannons and later technology.  I don't want to say there is an outright ban, since some of the stories here have some legend including them (e.g., @Henjin_Quilones sig fig is a jedi who crash landed his star ship here), but the tech is never the focus and is usually used just as a peripheral vehicle for the story if that makes sense. If you have questions on ideas, just ask, but it's pretty flexible.

No, you can build a settlement wherever you want. We have several members with settlements in more than one guild (one in Avalonia, one in Mitgardia, etc.). You don't have to associate any of your buildings with anything if you don't want, although if you ask me half the fun is watching your city grow and furthering the overall story by detailing the buildings, styles, and customs of various areas in Historica.  You can even build a building for someone else's settlement (with their permission) that can count toward their HSS.

You just build your character wherever you want.  We are very loose with formal rules here, so have fun!  The only real things off the top of my head that we avoid, besides the general decorum of the forum rules (i.e., no explicit material etc.) are that we generally like to ask permission of members before using their sig figs in a story to avoid conflicting with their intended storyline, and we don't kill someone else's sig fig in the story (unless they want you to, or you're in Varlyrio.... but that's a different issue you can read about in the Family Intrigue thread).

Yes, with some limitations.  No clone brands are allowed: Megablocks, Kreo, etc.  However, 3rd party pieces, such as BrickForge and Citizen Brick are fine, as are your own custom jobs if you do waterslide decals or printing, or even 3d printed bricks you made.  There are sometimes challenges that disallow 3rd party parts, or require customization (like a custom fig), but these are usually specified in the challenge prompt. Similarly, non-Lego items that Lego traditionally uses, like cloth capes and sails, and various string and rubber bands are also allowed.

Welcome! Glad to have you (almost) here!

1. There are a few things. First, no real-world religions. There are plenty of made-up ones here, including some that mirror real-world ones, but the real thing is off-limits here. Second, no guns, cannons, airplanes, internal combustion engines, etc. The tech here is medieval. There are some dwarves, gnomes, etc., who have experiments with such things, perhaps, but they are the freaks whose tinkering are not taken seriously.

2. You can build anywhere. You are of course encouraged to build up your own settlement, but you could settle in Mitgardia and build in Kaliphlin and Avalonia without any issues.

3. Go wherever you like. There are no rules about character movement. Some sig figs have been spotted in many guilds on journeys.

4. Try to keep it to a minimum. There may be contests that dictate original LEGO only, but for freebuilds you could have weapons that come from Brickarms or something. I would avoid using clone parts as a general rule, however. But feel free to use your own string, sails, rubber bands, etc. as needed.

Edit: I see @Grover beat me with his fast fingers…

Thank you both!

1) This is in line with what I expected, keeping real-world things out is always a good idea! Perfect also for what concerns technological boundaries (middle ages with some minor exceptions for dwarves/gnomes).

2-3) Ok, these dynamics are quite different from the pirate forum (which is more based on empire building and world conquest), so I indeed needed some confirmation! As I’m not very familiar with the lore, I’ll avoid building in other people’s settlements for a while, but in case I’ll keep to healthy rpg rules!

4) thanks! I almost exclusively use lego parts, I only have a few third part printed torsos and I wanted to know if I could use them.

Anyways, thanks for all the support! I’m looking forward to building in this awesome community!
