SM96UK Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 The posts of rock crawlers have been going on long enough! Lego will not make a rock crawler, firstly lego parts are too fragile for high torque - and lego doesn't like to damage parts! Secondly, the only way we would see a rock crawler is if lego made an rc unit like the previous ones which do not use lego axles and gears! THERE WILL BE NO ROCK CRAWLER! Come on guys, they're are other great vehicles lego could come up with ;) Quote
Meatman Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 People aren't talking about a rock crawler because they actually want one(well I am sure actually a lot of people would like to see one well made) there is a rumor that the 2012 flagship is in fact a rock crawler and we were discussing what steps Lego might be taking to make this successful. Nazgarot Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I really hope that in few months you will have to eat your words! +1 And I really hope it will include some new PF elements! -ED- Quote
Lasse D Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 I didn't mention anything about a new rock crawler. Wait. You weren't talking to me? But you posted a new topic as if everyone knows what you are talking about... (Hint: Add context) Quote
Wiseman_2 Posted September 15, 2011 Posted September 15, 2011 Two years ago, I might've agreed with you, but then I never thought we'd see an RC Excavator or licensed Unimog set. And here we are in 2011, we've got both of those and I wouldn't be surprised if they did come up with a Rock Crawler with new PF parts. Quote
captainmib Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Why dont we put this topic under a Rockcrawler Quote

GuiliuG Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) How many parts have you still broken? I find it's completly stupid to affirm no rock crawler will be produced still we have some pictures or informations to confirm this ! It can be a manual rock crawler, so there will be no risk to break some parts :) Nobody can tell how the future will be made :) Edited September 16, 2011 by GuiliuG Quote
raus Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 I do believe that can be released, but would have to fulfill its role, crawling on rocks Quote

Ondra Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 All right .But it will be great name for this set. Quote
Meatman Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 LOL. Looks like this thread got cracked in less then 24 hours. Quote
yoraish Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) This evening I have finished building my rock crawler chassis. And it doesn't seem like a gear crusher nor a part breaker. It functions great and handles the torque. I agree that if LEGO will make a rock crawler it will most probably have no motors, but I do want them! In conclusion I think kids can benefit a lot from a rock crawler set, and learn about its unique suspension. I see no reason for LEGO not to make one. Edited September 16, 2011 by yoraish Quote
Erik Leppen Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Using 8110's hub parts filled with an 8 and 24 tooth gear, it can already releave two thirds of the torque problem. Also there have been Lego truck trials for decades, surely the parts inventory available to TLC in 2012 has all the parts to create such a thing? I think that it can be done. And who knows what new parts there will be to make it even better. Quote
Cwetqo Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 (edited) Is it too much to hope for higher torque cluctch. Combination of it with 8110 hubs (in 8-24 layout of course) and torque tubs plus very high gear ratio could work very reliable. Some well-designed TT-s (like ones from zblj, nico and others) could take much abuse even without those specila parts, so i think that it could not be impossible for lego to make good offroader). I guess that we will have to wait and see. Edited September 16, 2011 by Cwetqo Quote
SM96UK Posted September 17, 2011 Author Posted September 17, 2011 Come on guys, stop flamin the thread, have an open mind. Just because we make truck trials, doesn't mean lego will do so too :P. like i said, lego parts are extremely fragile, the only way this would happen is if lego made aluminium parts which would make thhe rock crawler's price sky high. but if they do, lego will probably make a technic rc unit - which is a very boring build if you ask me Quote
Jim Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 (edited) Most of the time rumors are true. And I sure hope this is no exception. A flag ship Rock Crawler would rule! Especially with some new gearing parts combined with new PF elements. It will be a huge dissapointment if this rumor turns out to be false. But I still try not to get my hopes up P.S. all of the new Unimog parts (even the wheels) can be used for this model, so why not take advantage of this. Edited September 17, 2011 by Gekke Ted Quote
captainmib Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Come on guys, stop flamin the thread, have an open mind. You're the one assuming it will never work - everybody else so far has tried to explain why it would be possible, and i think they have some strong points. Anyway, we don't know what TLG will come up with, since they keep it mostly secret. So both options are possible... Quote
allanp Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 Come to think of it, I have yet to hear a rumor re upcoming technic sets that has turned out to be false. Plus, the guy who started this rumor (can't remember his name off the top of my head, sorry) has been right so far about the 1h2012 sets. So whilst i'm trying really hard not to get my hopes up, i'm fairly sure that a 180 euro RC rock crawler will either be a boring dissapointment (with just drive, suspention and propultion) or it will have some awesome new parts that I have been waiting and asking for quite often here for a very long time. The suspence is killing me! Quote
