Out of Sight Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Since TLG came with 8043 Excavator, they somehow set a new benchmark for a flagship model. I just love a totally 'handsfree' operation of my 8043. While some of you have the creativity and time to customize any Technic set with remote operated PF, for a Lego newbie like me, the convenience of having all the remote operated features in a set is GREAT and saves a lot headache. I personally love construction machines, their yellow color also stands out on display..and for the fact that construction sets are also HUGE For 2011 I'd love to see a 'reincarnation' of the 8421 Mobile Crane. While I haven't owned the 8421, I would love to own the next big crane. While the 8053 is good..it's way too small for a mobile crane, and the PF seems like an 'afterthought' since the PF battery box ruins the whole look of it. I would love to see the PF and remote to be integrated as whole design like the 8043. So my request to TLG is remote operated mobile crane with 62.4x20 size tires or bigger, with remote operated crane functions, remote stabilizer deployment, a super low gearing for the drivetrain so we can drive the crane at a realistic pace to and from the deployment sites I'm expecting it to be bigger and longer than the 8258, with 12 wheels (6 on each side where the first three are for the steering). Anyway while there's another thread about upcoming 2011 Technic sets, I would just focus this thread on the flagship model. Please share your thoughts of what the 2011 flagship should be. Zerobricks Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) A 6x6 articulated truck, or maybe a big container truck? Or maybe a port container forklift? Edited December 22, 2010 by Zblj Quote
Countdown Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I don't think we'll have a 8421-similar mobile crane for a while (at least 3 more years) because the 8053 and 8067. But a large scale rough-terrain crane like the 8070 would be plausible. I think a lowboy trailer truck in the same scale as the 8043 and 8265 that you could put them on it would be really awesome! If not a large grader. Quote
Anio Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 A roadgrader, or something like a John Deere walker. :D Quote
dolittle Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Looking back at 8043, and what was released on that year, I think we should expect a big version of Backhoe Loader probably to replace the pneumatic version that has been out ages ago and everyone keeps talking about it :) It also fits with the release of the small version being released this year. Thanks, Noam Edited December 22, 2010 by dolittle Quote
Alasdair Ryan Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 i think there is a good chance of seeing another full pf set like the digger and bulldozer, i think a lowloader to move them would be great, i think thay wont bring out a big full rc crane i think a small crane , thay are makeing a lot of cheap crane sets along with the recent crane models in the last year.however when you think of last year we did have 4 excavator models in close proximatry to each other before the 8043 come out I don't think we'll have a 8421-similar mobile crane for a while (at least 3 more years) because the 8053 and 8067. But a large scale rough-terrain crane like the 8070 would be plausible. I think a lowboy trailer truck in the same scale as the 8043 and 8265 that you could put them on it would be really awesome! Out of Sight Posted December 22, 2010 Author Posted December 22, 2010 Well I guess I can forget about seeing big crane this year It's very interesting that one of you mentioned about lowboy trailer with a similar scale to the 8043 and 8265. Anyway how do you determine scale among Technic sets? As for me I always look at the blue L shaped 3x5 liftarm for the seats that Lego has been using..if the seats look proporsional to the whole model, I assume they're roughly the same scale as in the 8043 and 8265. An 8x8 truck of similar scale would be nice though. I'm thinking 8x8 tipper truck, like the Scania P-series to play along with the 8043 or 8265. v8 engines connected to 4 differential for each axles. Selectable transfer drive between 8x4, and 8x8. Tipping bed (obvious!). Or perhaps a snowplough truck to clear out snow covered roads, like the Unimogs U4000 series (boxy cabin shape, makes sense for lego bricks, with subtle panels), with rotating salt spreader at the rear. LOL, these are just my ideas though. Quote
TechnicJuan Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I would just be happy to see some sets come along with some new interesting parts. Quote
Rijkvv Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) How about a sideloader? It's something we never saw before in LEGO, and I think it could be an interesting set. But... please add at least some studs. A combination of studless and studded, like 8265, 8275 and 8421. Those 100% studless sets don't look like LEGO to me. Oh, and I love if it is full remote controlled of course. Edited December 22, 2010 by Richie Quote
Blakbird Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 How about a sideloader? I don't think a sideloader is at all likely. One of the first considerations of the design team is that the model be immediately recognizable by kids, and virtually no kid would recognize a sideloader! This strategy followed some of the sets of circa 2003-2004 that were not recognizable by most people, like the airport fire truck. Quote
andythenorth Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I like the Unimog / snowplough suggestion, something like an updated version of these would get my money. http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8848-1 http://www.brickset.com/detail/?Set=8854-1 I think we might get another tracked vehicle, something like a full sized Pisten Bully (but the tracks are undersized for that), or some of the Foremost vehicles that were in the mood boards in the 8275 bulldozer video: http://foremost.ca/index_vehicles.php I don't think we'll see a fully RC vehicle with rubber tyres, the grip from rubber is high and imposes quite severe loads on gears, axles etc when used with large PF motor(s). The tracks lose grip and slide on both carpet or smooth floors, which prevents damage to parts. But that's just guessing. cheers, Andy Quote
Meatman Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 (edited) Anyone have any idea what this new 8081 extreme crusier is? The price would suggest that it isn't a flagship model, but I wonder what it could be? Some type of police vehicle with flashing red/blue lights? When I think of a cruiser, I think of a police car. allanp Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I don't care what the model is as such, just as long as it's done well. If you had told me in 1995 that next year the flagship would be a space shuttle I would have been dissapointed, but what we got was one of the best sets ever. Having said that, a monster truck with lots of new transmission and heavy dudy/low friction drive train parts would be awesome, or a back hoe (unlikely this year I know) with lots of pneumatics, espectially longer pneumatics would be freaking awesome. So basically anything with cool new parts that make technic more authentic would be great. Quote

Out of Sight Posted December 23, 2010 Author Posted December 23, 2010 @andythenorth Thanks for reminding me of that...I knew I'd seen a Technic snowplough way back then. Since Blakbird mentioned about Technic sets which need to be instantly recognizable to kids, I think snowplough trucks are a common sight in Christmas/winter time..as common as Santa Claus Although for Indonesian like myself, most kids here have never seen a snow due to our tropical climate..duh! Anyway here's a pic of the real thing. I see many possibilities to utilize PF especially on the front blades. That offroad undercarriage is a good potential to exploit a working suspension too, afterall a 'Mog is an offroad truck! That square cabin shape is also easily 'brick-able' Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 My biggest hope would be something in double capitals.... (A TruckTrail-truck would be great.....) But then again al little voice tells me that one of you guys made the right guess... Remember it is only a few weeks until the big toyfair in Germany! Quote

Arrggh all you guys Europeans are so lucky..i've been wanting to attend that Toyfair! My wife will be visting Europe but in March..sigh. In the meantime I'll get a few locally available sets. I've been eyeballing the 8265 Loader, to assist my 8043 shoving Lego bricks around my work desk Quote
LEGOMAN132 Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 (edited) A Caterpillar 777C Rigid Dump truck would be cool. Or some sort of big semi truck with the parts to biuld a lowboy as the second model. Although I would love to see a concept aircraft of some sort. Maybe a VTOL with PF tilt rotors spining and propellers/fans,retractable landing gear and more. Edited December 23, 2010 by LEGOMAN132 Quote
martinnygaard Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 A 6x6 articulated truck, or maybe a big container truck? Or maybe a port container forklift? I really like this idea - even more if the flagship is the Container Truck - and the B-model (or an other set) is a container forklift. That will be so cool! Quote

Well, what about new Space Shuttle? I would like to see a new one and the timing would be perfect since the real-stuff is getting phased out. And it would look great next to old one. Quote
allanp Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Well, what about new Space Shuttle? I would like to see a new one and the timing would be perfect since the real-stuff is getting phased out. And it would look great next to old one. It would depend on how well that idea is realised. It could be awesome, and great for white parts i'm sure, but then it could turn out to be rubbish compared to the original. However there is plenty of room for improvement even on a great set like 8480. Sadly I get the feeling that the designers at TLG are not given as much time to properly design and perfect a set as they used to get, but I could be wrong. Quote
xsysiek Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Hi! I am new to this forum. But not new to LEGO. I was also thinking what it could be. For construction vehicle i was thinking about grader, forklift or skidsteer. For road vehicle we would see some fast car or truck with low loader semi trailer or tipper semi trailer. Quote
Blakbird Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 Or maybe one of these: As long as we're speculating on what "Cruiser" means, how about a Vista Cruiser! Quote
Erik Leppen Posted December 23, 2010 Posted December 23, 2010 (edited) If we want recognizable, why not a garbage truck? Either with a system on the back to empty the garbage bins into the container, or a system like 8479 (Scanner Truck) primary model or 8868 secondary model. Of course this also has a tipping mechanism. maybe even the same mechanism as this years 8052 (Container Truck). Along with Power Functions driven drive train and steering you could have five functions, which seems reasonable for a flagship model, if everything would be remote controlled. -driving -steering -tipping -unloading -loading arm (either at the back or at the front). This could become an interesting model and something Technic doesn't see everyday, yet can still be recognizable :D Edited December 23, 2010 by Erik Leppen Quote
