I wanted to recreate this machine:

For screws I rolled the tracks arround rims, but the problem is the edge is too flat to really dig into anything. It was a good try, and could be usefull for a static model though!

That looks pretty neat. Maybe you could make a marine version by wrapping pneumatic hoses around 6 air tanks (3 on each side). You might want to make it tethered to save weight or built it round a floating hull piece or use more iar tanks or something. Alternatively for a land based version you would probably be best using similar techniques employed in the onmidorectional meccanum wheels (have I spelt that right?). It's a neat idea tho.

You can build it in microscale with the worm gear.

It seems to me that worm gears and other ready-made screws wouldn't work, because you need a left-hand and a right-hand thread on the two sides...?

Exactly, you need opposite thread screws. if i only had more than 2 32249.gif of these parts.

And some 3.2mm tube through the ends and it might work!

After giving it some thought I'm not so sure my suggestion will work very well.. There is no diagonal edge to vector thrust from so it may just work like a rotating brush, ie going nowhere.. It may get a result on sand, but only by piling the sand into shape... but I'm not sure that it would be any good anywhere else.

I think the only way to get a diagonal edge would be to put short lengths of the corrugated hose over a flex hose core, but it might require some creative cutting...

Ah, did not think about that. :sceptic:

How do you make these as a thread? 32249.gif

Just stack them and you get a quasi tread :classic:

Just tried this, running on various carpets - sadly it does not work at all! The lack of a diagonal does indeed seem to be the problem.
