This is a result of a friendly competition bewteen me and Mahjqa. The challenge was to make a bike that doesnt tip over and is able to steer. In order to shift the center of gravity in the corner the bike's front steering is designed to crawl sideways, therebye shifting the weight sideways. Also to help with stability the rear wheel is from the F1 set and its the widest smooth tyre. Xl motor power the rear gear with 1.67:1 ratio, there is no chain, because it would not hold.

There is supension on front and rear wheel, so the rider doesnt suffer too much

I also made the model in LDD, the only thing missing is the proper rear wheel and the M motor.

Wow, Jernej, this is fantastic! I have never seen a self-balancing Lego Technic chopper moving with Power Functions! Thanks for the LDD Building Instructions -- I'm sure lots of folks will be making this! I like the radical-looking motorcycle rider too!

It is not self-balanced as said above, but is really a great MOC!!

The video is also great! Liked specially the entrance when the rider moves and seats in place.

@ dolittle: Using LDD Manager, the Bricklink Parts List reveals that the big rear wheel (in the LDD .lxf file) is the 2573 "Wheel Hard Plastic Giant (71mm D. x 47mm)". It represents the 32296pb01 "Tire Technic Racing Large with 'TECHNIC RACING' White Pattern" tire (which is not in the LDD parts pallette) mounted on a 22969 "Wheel 62mm D. x 46mm Technic Racing Large". It is "Match #286" on Bricklink's "Tire On Wheel" Relationships page.

Nice work! The steering is very clever. I've also been making a PF bike, and we both have the same arrangement and orientation of the PF elements

BTW, I think it's first bike with steering + full suspension, isn't it?

Did you try to change these huge gears at the end with a chain? It would look much better but I'm not sure about it's performance.

About full suspension I don't know, but with steering and real self-balancing there are a few others.

For the Philo's one, I can't see now whter it has suspension or not.

There are also others from one builder, with similar steering and self-balancing, but not so sophisticated or efficient in terms of balancing. So to say they require some "support".

Hi,

I remember seeing in the past a bike that had two extra "wheels" on both sides, that would go down as the bike slows down and up as the bike sped up.

The idea was that the faster the bike goes, less balance is needed, while when it stops extra support is needed.

Maybe this would be a solution worth looking into?

I had chain at first, but it kept slipping and breaking.

Thanks for the nice comments everyone. Self balancing with NXT is cool, yes, but I dont have the NXT and I wanted to keep it simple.

We will see what Mahjqa comes up with

thats the first time i've seen a Lego Technic bike thats motorized and that steers. well done.
