So far all I own are the exoforce mechs. After a week sitting there as the original models, I took them apart and make the combo. Then about 2 weeks later I took them apart and make the alternatives. Then I moc them (add hands, arms, armor, etc).

Just won a t-1 typhoon from ebay. Should be interesting to see how long the copter last. :P

I usually take them apart after a couple of weeks it save me having to dust them.

the only set I have not taken apart is my Technic Enzo its been on display for 4 months now :-D

Star Wars sets: As long as they aren't used in MOCs they are on display in a special shelf. After taking the MOCs apart the SW sets are reassembled again and on display.

Non-SW sets: After getting them I put them on various shelves, cupboards ans so on. There they are sitting till I run out of place (mostly after 15 - 20 medium sized sets) and then they are all together token apart and sorted into my collection. Then I can start to fill up the space again with new sets and everything begins again. This circle usually is something between two months and a year...

Mine are lucky if they survive for more than a day.

I usually only build the original model to see if the set is complete.

After the build, I check out any features it might have. That can take as little as ten minutes.

Then, sometimes, I just look at it for the aestetics, or it gets swooshed around a bit.

After all that I take it apart and sort the pieces.

There are some exeptions to this rule, but they are few and far between.

Mine stay built (they are currently being re-bulit as I moved house).

The train and City stuff sits on a 6'x4' table in middle of room (apart from the construction sets - too big, so they are on a shelf), Star Wars, Ferrari and Exo-Force (when I get round to building) are displayed on shelves.

All my non-city sets are stored in boxes, and my city stes are always built. I put them in bigger boxes in my armchair. But now I don't have any places to let my city sets built in boxes, so I have to find a solution... (I don't want to wreck them, because I don't have a lot of time to assemblate all my town, because I don't leave with my bricks :'-( )

It depends on how much I like the set.

Most of the time I disassemble them after about 2-3 months, but a few I've kept and may not ever disassemble them.

Such as the Shark from Deep Sea Predators (4506), the Street Bike (8420), the Mobile Crane (8421), and the 1:10 F1 car (8386)

I really want to build the alternate for 8420, and got halfway done before I ran out of pieces from my loose parts collection, and I can't bring myself to disassemble the original model yet, so I'm hoping to snag another copy of it when it goes on sale for 35% off or more.

The Mobile Crane I might disassemble when the new tow truck comes out; for now I like having an F-ing huge technic model around :)

The F1 car I will definitely disassemble when the new 1:8 F1 car comes out.

And the shark... well... that shark rocks and I don't ever want to take him apart :)

If I buy the set because I like how it looks, 95% of the time it stays assembled on my shelf. I tend to buy sets just for the parts so these will be sorted right away. Occasionally I will build a small set and then take it apart and sort it.

For example, most of my SW sets are assembled on my shelf, along with Orient Expedition and the few Exo force and Batman sets I have. Everything else is in drawers or tubs.

Same here I'm to busy MOCing to keep them built for to long with the exeption of my Castle stuff I like to keep it built

My SW sets have been built since I bought them. They don't get wrecked but are for display only. My other sets...that depends. Usually, a couple of minutes since I buy sets as parts packs and not for the looks. The Viking series lasted a couple of weeks though :-P

it depends...

in some cases, i just buy sets for the parts so i won't build them, like my 2nd atat a few years back. My first atat lasted only for a couple of weeks.

others barely survive 1 day, like the MF

sometimes sets are on display for whatever reason. The uplink and the longboat for instance, are still in one piece, mostly because i don't need the parts right now...

other sets go straight to the collection. if it's a second or third copy of a set, it'll most likely stay MISB, if it's the first, i'll probably build it, put it in a plastic bag or the original box and store it, or i'll dismantle it first, depending on the size of the set...

i have some questions. do you buy new sets for parts or source parts from used inventory (ebay or bricklink)?

well, i recently bought some parts from ebay, and after washing them i find they don't fit quite as well as new parts. and new parts have that nice clickety sound while used parts have a squeekity sound, especially the 1x1 technic/system pieces. i think i would prefer buying new sets but they are kinda expensive and don't always have the part i need. what do you do with the parts that you don't need? do you sell it? is there anyone on ebay or bricklink that does that, ie buy sets for parts then sell the unneeded parts as new parts? if so do you have names i can look up?

i recently visited a lego store. the shop seemed to have a few sets on sale, like the 8877 KK castle for $80. anyway, i was wondering if anyone knows when they have an annual or semi-annual sale, sale where almost everything in the shop is on discount? is there any announcement like maybe on lego.com or elsewhere?

I keep all of mine on my shelves, so I never take them apart. This is mainly because I'm completely useless at MOCing.

Don't think you are. If you don't try, you'll never get better :-)
