DLuders Posted August 1, 2010 Posted August 1, 2010 On the website http://technic.lego.com/en-us/competition/default.aspx , the August 2010 Lego TECHNIC Challenge theme has been announced -- it's LIFTING CRANES. "Take the Technic Challenge – Lifting Crane! This is the LEGO® Technic Challenge competition! - here you have a chance at showing the LEGO Technic designers your designs and your abilities with the Technic elements. "The competition is very simple 1. Build a model out of primarily LEGO Technic elements. 2. Take a picture of the model 3. Press the button below to Enter the competition 4. Enter your contact information 5. Upload your image "What to build? This month (August) the competition is all about Cranes –Whether its stationary or on wheels is up to you, what matters is that it has lifting functions and that it is actually able to lift an object. Weight/Size of the object doesn’t matter – but the crane must be lifting an object on the picture, holding it clear off of the ground. "How does it work? Right now you can submit models - On the 16th of August - a panel of judges consisting of designers, marketing managers, building instruction artists and more will pick out (of all submissions) 10 finalists that will then be put up for voting here on the site. Considerations for the Nominees will be based on Model, Design, build to theme and age. "The winner will receive a prize and also continue to the Big Finale in October." Of course, there is a LIMIT to how high (or slender) a Lego TOWER Crane can be: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ZC_1o1XozQ Quote
Buffalo Posted August 2, 2010 Posted August 2, 2010 I'm working on a MOC that should qualify for this. Hopefully my Bricklink order will show up today so I can finish it up. Quote
DLuders Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 If folks need some inspiration about cranes, Technic Brick Constructions is an excellent website showing various motorized cranes: Quote
Krickrac94 Posted August 8, 2010 Posted August 8, 2010 Telescopic handler belong to this theme?? It's lifting, but not absolutely crane If OK, I'm join with this: or this's don't OK with my mini mobile crane: Quote
DLuders Posted August 8, 2010 Author Posted August 8, 2010 Telescopic handler belong to this theme?? It's lifting, but not absolutely crane Considering that the picture below appeared on the contest's webpage http://technic.lego.com/en-us/competition/default.aspx , I believe that your MOCs could be eligible. It says that "This month (August) the competition is all about Cranes –Whether its stationary or on wheels is up to you, what matters is that it has lifting functions and that it is actually able to lift an object. Weight/Size of the object doesn’t matter – but the crane must be lifting an object on the picture, holding it clear off of the ground." Quote
grohl Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 I think that they are not going to accept my model again. Even though it is going to be exactly according to their required description. Quote
grohl Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) Because I am building this: The SANDHILL CRANE is going to have a working winch, moving head and neck (I would not definitely call it a boom) and rotating body standing on the legs. Edited August 11, 2010 by grohl Quote
JunkstyleGio Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 LOL! You might get to the finals if it works... then again, TLC is not knwon for its humor, you might not! Quote
DLuders Posted August 11, 2010 Author Posted August 11, 2010 @ grohl: I think that TLG would accept your Sandhill Crane contest entry, because they accepted our FAVORITE Chicken (below) as a Finalist in the April "Farming" challenge: Quote
Jetro Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Make it walk and you'll be the absolute winner Quote
grohl Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Make it walk and you'll be the absolute winner I definitely will not. But I wish there was some way to make a 50 cm tall bird from LEGO walk. Quote
Jetro Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 Let's see what you come up with and then evaluate possibilities - should be really interesting. Quote
efferman Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) this month i have build a little mobile crane. nothing to win the afol section, but it had made fun to made it. at this time its a error on the competition side if i want to upload my picture Edited August 11, 2010 by efferman Quote
roamingstop Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) As a mobile crane in the more mini-model series this is great... although the LA would push up the price (if ever available to kids). I really like how the form of the small mobile cranes is kept in a nice compact package; without sacrificing functionality. It reminds me a lot of old 855 model... sigh. Those were the dreams. efferman Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 thanks a city crane from tlg in this size would be nice. and the linear actuator is not a must have. ther are other ways to lift the boom. but i dont know how is the playability for kids with all the manual functions wich works with bolts. Zerobricks Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 this month i have build a little mobile crane. nothing to win the afol section, but it had made fun to made it. at this time its a error on the competition side if i want to upload my picture It worked good for me, great little crane you built! What holds the foldable arm from sliding back? Quote
efferman Posted August 11, 2010 Posted August 11, 2010 (edited) thanks the "outriggers" are locked by a 4L link or was it an different function why you ask? Edited August 11, 2010 by efferman Quote
Zerobricks Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 thanks the "outriggers" are locked by a 4L link or was it an different function why you ask? I mean the extension boom. What holds it from sliding back? Quote
Jetro Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Very nice MOC - looking forwrd to more pics of the 'innards' Quote
efferman Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 I mean the extension boom. What holds it from sliding back? a axle 4L with stop holds it Quote
Blakbird Posted August 12, 2010 Posted August 12, 2010 Here we go :) Very clever! It is certainly a crane. Since it is a crane in multiple senses (and is even lifting a heavy load), you are sure to win the competition. Competition or not, this is a well done MOC. The shape is quite organic. Show us what the gears do! It looks like the head bend downward on a 4-bar linkage. Quote
