The first names that pop in my mind are Markus Kossmann and Jørn Thomsen, but, after a quick search on the latter's set list, I was surprised to learn he didn't actually design Technic sets (although I know he helped with some, such as 42179).

I'm curious about this too. As far as I know it should not have anything to do with the length of one's job as there are other Technic designers among the current Technic team that have been around way longer than Grohl. At least I'm aware of Uwe Wabra and Olav Kroigaard.

I had to think about that too. It can't be the length of service in the team. Uwe Wabra, for example, has been with the company much longer and was also responsible for larger models. To me, that doesn't sound very fair or equal within the team. It could be that the designers work on a freelance basis and that the number of sales influences their ranking. Milan's models (same for Kossmann) are very popular with higher sales.

Or maybe the other designers just don't want the promotion, or they work with multiple themes at the same time. At least the latter is true for Olav Kroigaard. He designed the set 75095 TIE Fighter, which was released in 2015, and in the introduction page he said he has been a Star Wars designer for 9 years, but he was also the lead designer for the 42053 and 42054 in 2016. Who knows if Uwe Wabra takes on other tasks in TLG.

Regardless, I think that discussion would be better somewhere else because it is Master Grohl's thread. Let's cheer for his achievement!

Thank you all. Markus was the first one. The title has nothing to do with the length of service. There are people who excel in disciplines where I am not so good at and vice versa. Model building skills is just one small section of a complicated equation. Sales are not.
