mahjqa Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) You can see who made it here: http://technic.lego.com/en-us/competition/voting.aspx Fellow AFOLs, don't sweat it, you didn't make it. Nobody over 14 even stood a chance. This may sound like I'm bitter, but I understand. Lego's focus group is, and always has been, the kids. I'm sure that if they saw what we did, they'd just plain give up. Can't have that. We need to encourage the next generation to build bigger, better, stronger and faster. That having been said, I think it sucks they didn't warn us in advance. It has been announced repeatedly on Technicbricks, which is mostly AFOL territory. I would've liked it better if the AFOLS had at least been given a separate age category. However, it's Lego's contest and their rules. Bummer. Edited February 17, 2010 by mahjqa Quote
Conchas Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I didn't know either and we never talked about this. So, I decided to advertise by my own initiative, as we all should want to know about. But as it seems, now there will be a prize also for the best from the adult submitted models. Read more, here: http://technic.lego.com/en-us/Designers/Blog/Default.aspx Quote
mahjqa Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 I suppose it's the best they could do, given the circumstances. To arrange for another prize like this is quite a feat. Quote
Jetro Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Thumbs up for LEGO... and for all the AFOLs who participated because if there hadn't been such a big response LEGO wouldn't have seen the need of adding a prize for AFOLs. It's a pity the Technic Blog is not in any standard format though. I cannot add it to my blog reader :( BTW mahjqa, a pity they didn't show your flying machine... or did you not submit it? JunkstyleGio Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 I guess this minor setback won't stop AFOL's building. Quote
mahjqa Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) BTW mahjqa, a pity they didn't show your flying machine... or did you not submit it? ? Yeah, I did. I'm just wondering if it's because of the animated GIF I sent in. The rest of the submissions are static pictures. And maybe it's not all lost; I have attached here some of the submitted models that really caught our eye and that we want all of you guys to see - these, along with others, will go into the pot where we will select the 20 Adult submissions from at the end of the year! (bolded portion mine) But yeah, it's frustrating that I can't even tell if the submission was seen. Edited February 17, 2010 by mahjqa Quote
Zerobricks Posted February 17, 2010 Posted February 17, 2010 Well by upload, there was written which file types were accepted and size. Anyway i'm glad i made it to adult side of the challenge :) Quote

mahjqa Posted February 17, 2010 Author Posted February 17, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I read. Can't get this smile off my face now. Edited February 17, 2010 by mahjqa Quote
telecasterman Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Easy come, easy go. Judging from the caliber of the models that I saw up-loaded to Brickshelf in the days just before the deadline to enter, I got the sense that folks were competing mostly for bragging rights anyways. Looked as though the time and energy spent on the designs far exceeded whatever the suggested retail value of the actual prize. FWIW, I think the DaVinci flyer wins, with grohl's most cool mantis a close second. Very cool MOCs all around though. --Scott Quote

Looked as though the time and energy spent on the designs far exceeded whatever the suggested retail value of the actual prize. I'm not sure about that. I love building, I build all the time. It is very rare i'll post pictures of my MOCs because, as you say, it kinda felt like "bragging" about them. (However, I love seeing MOCs, my first impression upon seeing a MOC is never that they are bragging about them, just that I am usally very impressed by them. I guess it's just a self-conscience thing when it comes to posting my own MOCs). So when I saw a competition in which I could possibly win Lego Technic sets just for doing what I already enjoy, of course i'm gonna enter . I might not stand much chance with my rushed entry (I have very little Lego building time in any given two weeks) but it's worth enjoying cobbling together a quick MOC to a deadline in order to enter a competition to win more technic surely. telecasterman Posted February 21, 2010 Posted February 21, 2010 Hmmm.... Allanp, maybe "bragging rights" wasn't exactly the right phrase to express what I meant. I didn't mean that anyone was "bragging," just that this was a good way for lots of folks who dig technic to share their creations and have a little competitive fun at seeing who wins. The chance to maybe win a free set was just icing on the cake. What I especially liked was that all within a few days seeing a whole bunch of cool flying machines suddenly appear on BS and elsewhere around the web. (It even motivated me to get off my lazy couch and set up a BS folder for my humble creation.) I hope folks continue to create MOCs for each of the subsequent monthly installments. I like seeing what everyone else comes up with... Quote
