Granddad Posted Friday at 12:38 PM Posted Friday at 12:38 PM I built a fire station but my granddaughter has taken it apart :) For the life of me I cant find instructions for it, I have tried Chatgpt, https://www.toysperiod.com/lego-set-reference/ and https://lego.brickinstructions.com/ it is as if I just made the fire station with no instructions but that is not me. Can you help identify this Fire Station please? I am guessing pre 2000, likely may even be in the 1980 era as the other Lego I have is from that time. I have included a photo but cant say how accurate it is. The big clue may be the Blue sloping windows at the front thank you in advance Granddad Quote
JesseNight Posted Friday at 04:28 PM Posted Friday at 04:28 PM (edited) Judging from the blue sloping windows and the blue garage roller door section, I'm guessing this is set 6385. Or was, since a lot seems to be missing (vehicles, tower) or off (lower floor door and window). The white Fire Station brick on top doesn't belong with that set either. Here are the instructions! Granddad Posted Friday at 04:39 PM Author Posted Friday at 04:39 PM Hi Jesse, thank you. I dont recall the tower or the windows on the left side or the truck on the right side. I should have listed the sets I looked at 6478, 6389, 6571, 7240, 7945, 7208 and.... 6385 and due to what I have said above, discounted 6385 I dont have the imagination to have built it from scratch, or at least I dont think I do. Can you think of any other fire station with those Blue Sloping windows? thanks again Granddad Quote
JesseNight Posted Friday at 04:47 PM Posted Friday at 04:47 PM (edited) There's been more stations using the blue sloping windows but those are far more modern looking, and have blue tinted garage doors. Especially the opaque blue roller door section with handle was a big hint for me since 6385 was the only fire station to ever have it in that color. In short, none are a 100% match with your build but the 6385 seems by far the closest. That white "Fire Station" brick seems to be rather unique, no clue which set ever even included this particular version (part crssprt01pb120). Edited Friday at 04:52 PM by JesseNight Quote
Granddad Posted Friday at 05:14 PM Author Posted Friday at 05:14 PM Thank you for taking the time to help me. What stations used blue garage doors? Hopefully none in the list I looked at :) granddad Quote
JesseNight Posted Friday at 10:58 PM Posted Friday at 10:58 PM I think your list has most of them covered. The blue tinted garage doors are on the newer sets starting 6389, but those have the opaque section with the handle in white or in red. Here's a nice article showing all LEGO fire stations throughout the years: https://blog.firestartoys.com/evolution-of-the-brick-lego-fire-station-sets/ Basically only 3 of these share the same base plate: 6382, 6385, and 6389. Only 2 of these have clear garage doors: 6382 and 6385, however only 6385 and 6389 have the inverted sloped windows in light blue. So unless your fire station was built either from an Ideas book or by yourself out of random parts from different sets, a lot seems to point towards 6385. Even though it is far from complete on the shown picture and contains a few wrong parts too (like the train door & window). Quote
Peppermint_M Posted Saturday at 08:50 PM Posted Saturday at 08:50 PM Working off what Jesse found out, It looks like a scratch build, built off or an attempt at "repairing" the set using available parts. The printed brick came in a very vintage fire station and also a pack of Sign Bricks from the 50s and the bulk of the rest of the set is as Jessie pointed out. Alas, there is not a great deal of information on a lot of Ideas books and pamphlets. Quote

This is not entirely the same brick, it has the letters narrower and closer together. The brick used in the topic starter's picture has wider letters that overlap slightly with the first and last studs' positions. The only perfect match I found had no sources listed. Maybe these very old packs may have had multiple versions, who knows. (not that it really matters much since this brick was definitely not part of the fire station in question) Quote

The era they were made in had a few more variations than we are used to today. Mechanical tolerances meant bricks could shift a little as there wasn't the finesse needed to safely hold the brick in place without damage. Having checked all the listed options on Brick Link, the typeface is a good match. Quote
JesseNight Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago @Peppermint_M Yes, I can imagine there's been a lot more variations and imperfections in these times. It just feels more than that, like an actual wider font. Let me share what I based my conclusion on. I've aligned the bricks and their studs. From top to bottom it's the topic starter's picture, then 3008pb025, then crssprt01pb120. Quote
Stereo Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I wouldn't read too much into what specific fonts are on old printed bricks. 6384 and 6386 Police stations used multiple serif/sans-serif versions of the 1x6 "POLICE" print, seemingly more about what the local LEGO factory still had in stock than a coordinated replacement like they might do nowadays. Thank you for the link to the Fire Stations throughout the years, liked that. Odd nothing matches my creation so it must be a DIY Fire Station. Now I have come across web sites with instructions I will see if I can turn it into a 6382 or 6385 or a mish mash of the two. As it is, I am going to have to buy various bricks to make up some of the things where I have downloaded instructions for my granddaughter. FWIW, I was at a train museum and speaking with someone, they said there are web sites where you can upload an image and get back plans to build your creation. thank you everyone for your help Granddad Quote
