Jim Posted June 20 Posted June 20 TECHNIC MONSTER TRUCK MADNESS CONTEST - DISCUSSION TOPIC Okay, here we go... DESCRIPTION Build a monster truck. No wheel or other restrictions. That's it. VOTING CRITERIA Voting will be 100% public voting, but the votes will be cast on an external website and won't be visible during the voting period. The voting criteria are (in no particular order): Quality of the build. Functionality. Originality. Looks (shape, color scheme, etc). DEADLINE Deadline date is August 31st, 2026. Contest will be closed on Tuesday the 1st OR LATER. Disclaimer: I will close the contest when I see fit and when I have the time to process the results. This can be later than the deadline date. Please don't complain about this not being fair and all. RULES AND REGULATIONS The following section describes the contest specific and general rules and regulations. But before that, please take notice of a simple motto regarding the Eurobricks Contests: CONTESTS ARE FOR FUN! Of course there's competition, but at the end of the day, LEGO is just a hobby and the main goal for each of us is to have fun! CONTEST SPECIFIC RULES AND REGULATIONS The entry needs to have a name. The entry needs to be studless. Some studded System parts are okay, but model team is not permitted. Pullback Motor is permitted. Pneumatics are permitted. Cutting pneumatic hoses is permitted. 3rd party strings, hoses and rubber bands are permitted. LEDs are permitted. Electronics (PF elements, SBricks, Buwizz and Mindstorms) are permitted. There is a limit of single battery box and four motors. GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS The contest is open to all EB members (also new members). Members who joined EB after the start of the contest can be banned from voting (when vote rigging is suspected). Voting rules will be explained later in the voting topic. One entry per member. Entries need to be new (never posted anywhere previously). Only physical builds, so no LDD or other virtual entry. If you have any doubts about the suitability of your entry contact me. All entries are to include only real LEGO. No clone brands, 3rd party parts, or digital entries allowed. No cutting, sculpting or modifying parts. Entries are to be placed in the entry topic in this forum. Entries not in the entry topic are not eligible for voting. The entry post may be edited at any time up to the end of the contest, so feel free to make improvements if you wish. The contest might be closed later than the deadline. Don't complain about this not being fair. You have enough time to build. Don't ask for more time. We reserve the right to disqualify any entry that does not follow these rules. These rules can be changed whenever we see fit to ensure that people follow the intent of the contest. Staff members are not eligible for winning prizes. WHAT DO I NEED TO ENTER? All participants need to create a discussion topic and create a post in the entry topic. DISCUSSION TOPIC A discussion topic starting with [TC31]. A discussion topic needs to show some actual progress (i.e. pictures of the build in progress) and should not be used to "reserve an idea". ENTRY POST The entry post in the entry topic should contain: Entry name Short summary of the functions. One or more images (max 4). You can have combined pictures (4 in 1) as long as the picture isn't bigger than 1024x1024. Hopefully I'll be able to finish my current MOC tonight, after which I'll document and disassemble it, after which I can start. And wow, there's hardly any debate about the rules this time! I'm not sure if it will work, but I was thinking of trying to make hydraulic steering using Lego pneumatics and a peristaltic pump, if I can get it to work. Would the water for that be acceptable to use? (I've even got a good natured/far-fetched argument for water being a Lego element! Every Lego box includes lots of air, making air an official Lego product. Normal air contains humidity, including water! So theoretically my hydraulic system could be using purely water condensed from the air included in Lego sets!) Quote

Lego sells boats with hulls and keels made to float on water; I think it's fair to assume they think people have access to water. I see no good reason why you should be prevented from putting water in pneumatic elements. I think it's rather creative. But I also see why Lego didn't do it themselves; should the system leak or one hose snap, then you have to re-bleed all elements, which are neither designed to hold a lot of pressure, nor being bled in the first place. I think this would yield low reliability and a poor end user experience. But since you're no ordinary user, you could build something reliable out of that idea I'm sure! Quote

I can't wait to see your hydraulic system @2GodBDGlory I had a couple questions of my own: 1. Are 3rd party tires admissible? I'm guessing the answer is no, but worth asking cause that would enable a larg-r scale MOC 2. Are 3rd party planetary hubs admissible? I have a set of LEGO ones that I messed up driving in some dirt, so I wanted to replace them with some identical 3rd party replicas I have without buying new LEGO ones. Quote

TechBricks Posted July 10 Posted July 10 About 2.4Kgs + 180g green body shell + 400g Fox. I have modified the Lego pneumatic air cylinders with new silicone seals, to reduce the friction. They are now air springs and can be fully compressed wit the air going into the blue air tanks. And the spring rate can be adjusted via RC with the Lego compressor and switches. So if you take the body shell off, or change the weight, you can adjust the suspension with the radio. I should start a [TC31] thread, with lots of info for for you. Quote

I do love the combination of Lego, hobby RC, and 3D printing you've got going on there. Unfortunately it's probably not technically a contest-legal build, since the rules do specify that the build not use 3D printed or most other third party parts. Really fun stuff there, though! Quote
