Hello everyone,

I am back again with yet another classic German locomotive. This time it is a Baureihe 56.2, or a Prussian G8.2 before.
For the colour scheme, as I'm still not a fan of the classic black and red (Way too boring still, haha) I have opted for a Dark blue and black, with grey running boards and red accents on the valve gear.

Just like my previous models, she has the full set of front and rear lights, and an accurate valve gear and proper wheelset designed and printed by myself, and she is powered by a Buwizz 3.0 Pro (They no longer make and sell 2.0's), and for the motor it's a CADA L motor.
Which means she's loud, but very powerful, especially since she's down geared to match a realistic scale speed of around 60-65km/h. Surprisingly, she is also somehow still capable at running around R40 curves, and has almost no gap between her tender and cab!

For the text decals, I have to thank Sven

In this video, you can see the valve gear in action.

And as a bonus, here is a picture I took at NLGM 2026, where she made her debut! I only managed to finish her the day before the event, and she ran really well! Except she's too light to properly go up steeper slopes with a heavy load (10+ wagons)...
So in the next few weeks, I'll be tweaking her frame a bit to stuff as much weights as I can in there. As well as make some changes to the wheels to try different O-Rings, rubber bands and other things.

After that, well... I guess she does need a lot more wagons to pull, as I've only got 6 now. So in the next few months, I'll hopefully have another collection to show!

Ahhh, I actually got to see this beauty in person over the weekend ;-)

The color alone makes this locomotive stand out and gives it a very elegant look. Awesome!

It was nice to meet you.

Best regards,

A beautiful model!

The BR 56.20 was kind of a "trademark locomotive" of my home town, a significant number was stationed here, so I'm quite fond of this class. You've captured the shape and details of the prototype very well!

What is that thin piece you use as a handrail alongside the boiler?

And that's really a shame. The 3.0 doesn't have enough PF outputs to suit my needs; and PU is out of question, for the motors are too bulky (why on earth did LEGO make them larger than their predecessors, when everything else is miniaturized these days???).

Every time she came into the side room, she definitely announced herself with how loud she was, impossible to miss as well, hahaha

Thank you very much!

It was nice meeting you too, glad to have been there at NLGM!

Thank you!! And again, thank you for the amazing decals too!

The piece is actually the antenna piece (2569) with the base and top cut off. It fits exactly through the 3mm rigid hose, so I've cut small sections of that to fill the clips, and then the antenna through that to work as handrails. This way it properly stands out from the pipes that are thicker. Not really purist, but I've not gone that route anyways as per the wheels/valve gear as well as drilling holes for wiring of the LED's, and for a super common 1ct piece, I'm not too bothered with cutting it up... 😅

If you don't mind the loud noise (not coil whine, but loud spinning noise), you can use CADA motors, they're the same profile as the PU L motor, but 1 stud shorter, so the same length as the PF L motor. Much more powerful than the PU L motor too, so that kinda compensates for its size, in a way, haha

In the video, it doesn't seem that loud at all. A Circuit cube sounds worse.

Luckily I've still 5 or 6 BuWizz 2.0 left (there was a discount sale a few months ago  ) and a whole box of Lego PF L motors, but the Cada L might be an alternative.
Actually I'm using two Cada M Pro motors in a BR 98.0 model which is yet under construction, as there is no space for L motors and the Cada M Pro has more torque than the Lego PF M.

On a pure decibel level, this one is definitely worse than a circuit cube. However luckily, it's mostly a low rumble from the spinning and gears, and not that annoying high pitched coil whine of the circuit cubes 😅

Definitely "lucky" on having a whole bunch in stock then! With the 3.0, it pretty much ended up for the BuWizz being like 70% of the cost of the model, even with the super rare dark blue O-clips I had to import 😬

The CADA M motors seem like a solid alternative, yeah! Might have to use those in the future as well if I run into a low-space case as well! Especially if I ever decide to make a 64 or something after my 38, haha

Stunning locomotive. The dark blue color works great. Love all the details and the fact is can run R40 curves.

Thankss! R56 was my goal with designing this locomotive, since I don't have much space at home to actually run trains if I were to use R104... So the R40 was just a happy accident in the end, haha

What a beautiful locomotive, I like the colors! Also great you are able to make your own wheels, it makes your models stand out!

Thank you! The colours definitely carry a lot of the weight, if it was all black, most of the details probably wouldn't stand out either, same for the running gear if it was all red, would just drown in colour that way 😬

Sometimes I worry that the dark blue pieces might run out, but then I see builds like this and think: how wonderful!

Very cool steam locomotive!

Thank you very much! Annoyingly, that is one of the issues I'm running into as well...

Especially the clips, because there's almost none of them in dark blue... 🥲

At least the importing of them is for a good reason? Hahaha

Holy moly - this is an insanely nice source of bricks - I simply missed that one!

It's the successor to Webrick - the Gobricks "factory outlet".
Have a nice weekend, too!

So, I got a shipping quote for ordering the same part from Canada but real Lego, but it's quite expensive... 😬

How is the colour match on this one compared to the Lego colours? Because if it's pretty much the same, might as well, haha

I haven't tried Gobricks parts in Dark Blue yet.

Other colours tend to be a bit lighter in hue than Lego's equivalents.
But given that Dark Blue is one of the colours of which Lego itself produces several distinctly different shades, it shouldn't get worse when you add the occasional GB element here and there...

That is very true!

I'll definitely order a bunch of test parts once I start on the 38! Especially if it's just these small parts, not really noticeable!

What an amazing model! I agree, dark blue is way classier on an engine. Those custom wheels and valve gear are STUNNING! The realistic rim and hub width, as well as accurate number of spokes hit way harder than standard wheel ever could. How did you make the red accents on the rods? Are they 3D printed with a second printer color? They look so thin too, but run very smoothly. How fragile are they?

I knew that 7307 ladder piece would be useful for train MOCs as soon as I saw it, thankfully it came out in black rather soon.

Have a nice weekend, too!

It’s been a while since I bought from Webrick, I knew they were under new ownership or something but this is news to me. I’ll look into it, I need a good source for magenta or I'll quit the hobby...

Thank youu!!

For the rods I printed them multi-colour, as I've got a Bambu A1 Mini with AMS, so it's pretty easy to keep it consistent without having to print a seperate insert or paint anything that way. They're actually not fragile at all! They're thin enough where they're very flexible. The only place where it can break is on the pins themselves, as I opted to print those instead of using like thin wire or bars or anything like it.

So whenever I bring it anywhere, I always make sure to print a few spare pieces so I can do emergency repairs. Though so far it hasn't been needed, luckily!

Looks very good. Love that dark blue. There are some older Dutch locomotives in that colour too which I fancy to build one day.

Nice to see some experience with cada motors. I need something like an L motor and doubting between getting the Lego pu or cheaper alternatives.

Thankss!!

Honestly I thought all our old steamers were dark green, didn't know of any dark blue ones existing! Though the 56.2 has actually served at Eindhoven for a few years, I think 2 units did?

The CADA L motor works really well, though It don't have any PU motors so I can't compare. But they're similarly priced, though the CADA's seem to be a lot more powerful than the PU versions in the same size package as PF motors!
