Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a new Speed Champions-scale MOC: the iconic 1949 Mercury Lead Sled.

I’ve reached a point where I’m torn on the direction. Looking at my current renders and physical prototype (see images below), I’m happy with the overall vibe. However, when I overlay the model with the original blueprints, the scale feels off. Both the roofline and the side panels/doors are significantly lower than they should be in reality.

I’m debating two paths:

  1. Purist Approach: Raise the beltline and the roof to stay as faithful as possible to the real-world dimensions.
  2. Stylized Interpretation: Keep it "low and slow." Considering that Minifigures are inherently short and stocky, a bit of proportional distortion might actually help it fit better in a LEGO layout.

Do you think it's worth sacrificing the sleekness for greater historical accuracy, or is a freer interpretation more effective at this scale?

Looking forward to your thoughts!

Nice car, and I vote the stylized "low and slow". Minifigs are not humans after all, so proportions will be off when building things exactly from our world... sometimes you have to just say it's close enough.
