rjr Posted January 19 Posted January 19 (edited) Hello, my name is RJ and I am new here. I wanted to show you my MOC of Wheeling & Lake Erie #2662, an EMD gp35. Missing are the handrails, I haven't found a substitute for cutting lego hoses yet. Please be easy on me, it'my first one. Hope you like it! Warm regards RJ Edited January 19 by rjr Quote
idlemarvel Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Very good. Striking colour scheme. You did well to maintain the striping around the angular nose. And not a stud in sight! If this is your first then if it was me I would quit while I was ahead! Quote
rjr Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 Thanks! Believe me, it took (too many) sleepless nights and periods of uncontrollable crying and laughing, not to mention a ferrari for those new modified tiles.. Quote
bogieman Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Very nice build. As an EMD retiree, I always like to see models our locomotives, even one like this that is before my time there. These are unusual with the ALCO equalizer bogies, instead of the swing hanger (Blomberg) type. Quote
rjr Posted January 19 Author Posted January 19 I like the old locomotives more then the newer ones especially with the high short hood! I didn't mind that WRE has emd locomotives with alco trucks because i am not happy with my attempts for blomberg trucks for now. Quote
Karle Posted January 19 Posted January 19 Very nice. How did you manage the dynamic brake blisters? Quote

Shiva Posted January 20 Posted January 20 (edited) Nice EMD GP35. I would say, cut those hoses, if that is the best option. GP35 2662, lost its short high nose and has been renumbered too. http://www.nsdash9.com/WEroster/WE106.html Edited January 20 by Shiva Added link to rebuild + new photos. Quote
Thomas Waagenaar Posted January 20 Posted January 20 That looks really good! I love the colour scheme! Quote

Those are 1x2 hinge bricks, the slopes are upside down attached to yhe body with brackets. 17 hours ago, Toastie said: I don't know which tiles exactly, but what is a Ferrari worth compared to this beauty? Did not care about the rest of the set! 11 hours ago, Shiva said: Nice EMD GP35. I would say, cut those hoses, if that is the best option. Feuer Zug Posted January 20 Posted January 20 Great high nosed GP35. The railroad and livery work well for it. Quote

Missing are the handrails, I haven't found a substitute for cutting lego hoses yet. Fantastic model! If this were mine, I would use 3- or 4-stud long lightsaber bars, whichever is closer to scale, for the vertical handrail stanchions. The handrails themselves would be pneumatic tube, and there are many length options available, so just choose the combination of hoses that is closest to the right length (this might take some trial and error...) Handrails are a high-wear component of a locomotive, so if you model the handrails in black or any shade of gray it won't be unprototypical. Quote
zephyr1934 Posted January 21 Posted January 21 That's a really nice build with some clever trickery going on in the nose (and many other locations throughout). Excellent job! Hilarious, I gave a Ferrari for the train, it was worth every penny... Quote

Excellent job! Great to see you here, enthusiastically i ordered some fans from you some years ago thinking making a train was an easy job. It is the last thing changed on this one , it's going on the shelf, i am ready for the next! Quote
LL1982 Posted January 22 Posted January 22 That nose design is very nice, also those steps in front of it. I would cut such a hose for the railing. I am drafting up a locomotive and that would have similar. Its either loads of light sabers or do something like a hose. You also got those umbrella sticks (not sure how to call them, they were used for those paradisa sets with the beaches). Quote
rjr Posted January 22 Author Posted January 22 Yes I am happy with the nose, it went to different stages the last couple of years but this version works nice, however internally the next one will be a little different so hopefully i got a little more room for things like the parking brake (at least i think it is) in the short hood. For the railing I think I am trying some hoses, see how it works. Quote
