Hi all! This is my first (completed) MOC ever as an AFOL, an A-wing in 1:43 scale. I made it in my own color scheme.

I updated it with the proper canopy, it's from chinese manufacturer Wange. It's perfect for the scale, but getting the minifigure out is even more awkward now, and the helmet barely fits, and only when turned to the side.

The build is very simple thanks to these newer lego wedge parts combining into an absolutely perfect a-wing shape:

Btw I learned that the ILM studio model is basically just two parts of an f-14 fuselage glued together, can't unsee it now!

The result is a very sturdy model, apart from couple of areas: the cannons, the forward 3x2 tiles (gotta replace them with 2x6 ones), and the rear structure between the engines. The engines are also a bit weak, but at least they're locked at an angle and don't wobble at all.

Looks very good. Those are the same parts used for the front profile of the A-wing in the new Smart Brick set. Did you come to this solution independently? If so, kudos to you. If not, it's still a great MOC!

I actually started working on it at the end of November. It took me quite some time to source all the parts, then make improvements, then order some more parts...

I wasn't surprised at all when I saw lego using these exact pieces, they are quite an obvious choice, and do match the shape as perfectly as you can get in bricks.

I love that new canopy! I can see why Lego hasn't made one themselves since the pilot has to always be looking over his shoulder. But it gives your ship such a clean look.

Well, they could make one just a little bit wider. But still, I doubt they ever would, they have to prioritize ease of play, after all.
