Loved building this MOC! It's a complete reboot of the classic City set 1592 (Town Square Castle scene). I found the original while doing research for my "As time goes by" series and just had to remake it.
The main challenge? Keeping that classic, recognizable nostalgia while giving it a sleek, modern update. Did I pull it off? Let me know what you think! I'm really looking forward to your feedback on this one.

Also the digital version of the Town Square Castle Scene is completed! As is often (if not always) the case, I built the model physically first and then digitally recreated the instructions.
The instructions are now available on Rebrickable! https://rebrickable.com/mocs/MOC-242617/montymatte/town-square-reboot/#details

I'd say you succeeded, and surpassed it with your own input.
Love the detailing and filling-up of the MOC, the original set seems barebones in comparison.

I am familiar with the set, although I never owned it. Not many sets show historical buildings in a modern setting, which really makes this set stand out. You've recreated the feel of that classic perfectly, and all the improvements and extra details are excellent! Great work!

I'm speechless! This set was on a next level even back then. Wish LEGO did a re-make, but it wouldn't even come close to what you did.

I've always had a soft spot for this set, because as a child, those are the boxes you can only look at on the shelves.

The variety of buildings and characters, the architecture and the monument...all details usually missing from other sets.

Now seeing this MOC so significantly improved is fantastic! :excited:

The carriage, the monument with the fountain, the street lamps are light years ahead of the previous version; the houses and especially the street paving are also beautiful.

Just one question, though: while building, didn't you want to give the buildings more depth?

One thing that never convinced me, for example, were those red doors that opened onto nothing.

Solid build. You captured the essence of the original perfectly. Kudos.

Thanks for your kind words. Means a lot to me & let me think I'm on the right way :)

This is really cool.

I don't totally get what's going on with the Tudor style walls. Is the white stucco crumbling away from the black boards, or is something else going on?

Great homage with stunning aesthetics :)

Also like how you implemented wizards hat as a running water detail

Thanks for your kind feedback. I'm also happy you've noticed that detail :)

Thank you. Yes...that's sometimes how it is with old sets. But that's precisely what makes them so charming ;)

You're right. There aren't many sets that dare to do this crossover. It's a shame, really. But it seems like every fan—Castle or City—is missing something. That's precisely why I find it interesting.

Thanks for your kind words, by the way :)
