Hi everyone. This is my entry for the Build Your Hobby contest on LEGO Ideas. If you like this, you can help it become a future GWP set by giving it your vote here. Anyway, let's talk about it!

Adventures in VR main

My non-Lego hobby is VR gaming. I love virtual reality because it allows me to be anyone, go anywhere and do anything! I can literally step into the shoes of a daring space hero, explore strange new worlds, fight alien monsters, and find epic treasures, all from the comfort of my own home!

Adventures in VR closed

All you need is a VR headset which is what I have recreated here.

Adventures in VR rear

But this is no ordinary life-size headset. If you open up the front, there is a whole vibrant virtual world inside, just one example of the kind of imaginative places that one of these devices can take you!

Adventures in VR open

It includes an astronaut minifig so that you can play out an exciting VR space adventure.

Adventures in VR front

You can find the extra life behind the waterfall.

Adventures in VR waterfall

Discover the Easter egg hidden in the cave.

Adventures in VR Easter Egg

Fight the monster and retrieve the red ruby!

Adventures in VR boss battle

Best of all, this VR headset actually kind of works! It's hard to convey in pictures, but if you look through the lenses on the back of the headset, you can see through the eyes of the hero just like you would in a real VR game!

Adventures in VR back Adventures in VR POV

This entry has been selected as one of the finalists, so again, if you like it, I would appreciate it if you'd click here and give it your vote to help it become a GWP set! And let me know what you think in the comments!

Thanks,

Oky

Wonderfully done! I love all the cool little details, and especially the fact that you can look through it. Voted! :)

Thank you! :sweet:

This is very slick, especially the fact that you can look through it!

Competition aside, have you tried putting in two identical scenes, side by side? I think it would create the illusion that the headset is using stereoscopy, when viewed from a few centimetres away, like real VR headsets!

Thanks! Very interesting suggestion, although it would be hard to pull off. For one thing, they would have to be  pretty small scenes that fit within a 6x6 space to fit in front of each “lens”. The other challenge is that for the stereoscopy to work, there would have to be some offset in the scenes to give the 3D effect. But it’s worth a try, so I might experiment with this!
