[TC29] Mudrunner Knight

For this contest, I decided to make a model inspired by a vehicle from the computer game Mudrunner. Here is a link to a video showing this particular vehicle Video.

In the mid-1960s, the special design bureau "Gazstrojmashina" decided to create a snow-and-swamp-going all-terrain vehicle, in which they would manage to use as many components as possible from serial Soviet machines (trucks, tractors, and even buses). In 1967, the tracked "Vityaz" was unveiled to the world. Engineers from the Likhachev Plant played a direct role in its creation, and the production of the model was carried out by the Moscow Experimental Mechanical Factory.

Many sources indicate that the production of the "Vityaz" was limited to a small scale. However, to this day, no automotive historian has been able to determine the exact number of units produced. Furthermore, it is very challenging to find photos of this unique Soviet-era project on the internet. It seems beyond doubt that it was only a prototype.

The main focus of the vehicle was on the surface of the tracks: despite its heavy weight, the pressure exerted by the vehicle on the ground was no more than 130 grams per square centimeter. These parameters not only prevented the vehicle from sinking into the snow, but also allowed it to move across wetlands, and the track left by the machine was shallow – just a few centimeters, around 10-15 cm.

To increase the range, additional fuel tanks were installed in the wheel arches, which had been freed up.

Tests were conducted in 1967, and the vehicle demonstrated excellent off-road capabilities – far surpassing those of comparable wheeled vehicles. However, a drawback was its speed – it reached a maximum of 25 km/h on roads and 10 km/h on snow.

This limitation in speed was likely the reason for the model W-1's limited production.

The model is powered by two PF XL motors, supplied by two Buwizz units.
It features a compressor with two small pumps driven by a PF L motor.
Additionally, it is equipped with a transfer case powered by a PF M motor, which distributes power to the crane's turntable and extendable side supports, as well as drives the V8 engine under the hood.

I finished the cabin, it is similar to my old Ził models. But it is not the same. I used a lot of new elements, added a completely new

windscreen, grill, and engine hood.

The model is almost ready. I connected a fake engine to the rotation drive of the crane and the retractable supports. The pneumatic system consists of six actuators, one airtank, and two pumps in a PF L motor-driven compressor. Two PF XL motors drive the system. One PF M motor drives the gearbox that operates the crane's rotation and the extension of the supports.
