Oky Posted Monday at 09:31 AM Posted Monday at 09:31 AM One of my favorite scenes from Andor, a show about the formation of the rebellion, is the introduction of Luthen Rael's gallery when Mon Mothma comes to discuss the difficulty of funding the rebellion due to heightened Imperial surveillance and her decision to add a new member to their circle to help with that under the pretenses of buying a gift for her husband. While Luthen's assistant Kleya distracts Mon's driver Kloris who was hired to spy on her, Rael leads Mothma from the bright and clean showroom to the dark and messy backroom. Just as he is talking about a two-faced divinity, he suddenly reveals his own true face as a spymaster as the camera cleverly pans around the two and they start discussing rebel business. It's an excellent scene filled with brilliant writing, acting, symbolism, and Easter eggs which I tried to recapture in this MOC. It's a great example of how some of the rebellion's most important members had to carefully meet in secret while hiding in plain sight to make the rebellion possible! Luthen: "Senator! What a pleasure to see you!" Mon: "You as well, Luthen. Sorry to be so late. It's as though right as you're leaving everyone remembers all the things they meant to bother you with." Luthen: "Free your mind, senator. This is a place where time stands still. It's hard being surrounded by this much history and not be humbled by the insignificance of our daily anxieties." Luthen greets Mon Mothma in his friendly Antique dealer persona. The door to his gallery can turn to open just like in the show. Kleya: "Can I show you something?" Kloris: "Oh, don't bother. I couldn't afford anything here." Kleya: "Please. There's no harm in looking. We just got in some terribly interesting coins!" Kleya distracting Kloris by showing him some ancient chrome LEGO coins. Mon: "Don't lecture me on vulnerability. No one is more at risk than I am. You think I haven't thought this through? I'd be the first one to fall!" The backroom has show-accurate Easter eggs such as the Indiana Jones' whip in carbonite, the Sankara Stones, a Jedi holocron, and a Sith holocron. Other items include restoration supplies, Count Dooku's chrome lightsaber, and some statuettes. Luthen's desk in the backroom includes a secret listening device that can be pulled out. Here is Kleya operating it as seen in Season 2. Instead of trying to make it 100% accurate, I decided to fill the gallery mostly with antiquities from LEGO Star Wars history. There are parts and entire outfits from various old and rare minifigs. There is also an old blaster and a minikit. However, there are also some objects from the show such as the Utapaun monk cudgel that Luthen showed to Mon, a Kalikori, a Gungan shield, a Kashyyyk clarion, and... whatever those 3 white pillars are. And no, I didn't build this just to show off my collection (although that was part of it). A closer look at the minifigs that I created for this scene. From left to right: Exmar Kloris, Mon Mothma, Luthen Rael, Kleya Marki. I hope you enjoyed this scene as much as I did making it. It was more challenging to build than you might think. I had to use various techniques to recreate the angled front and back walls and have it all connect to the floor at a 45 degree angle to recreate the diagonal floor pattern. May the force be with you! Quote
Elysiumfountain Posted Monday at 06:12 PM Posted Monday at 06:12 PM Very well done! I love all the little easter eggs and details, you did an awesome job! Quote
Yperio_Bricks Posted Monday at 06:44 PM Posted Monday at 06:44 PM Awesome moc of Luthen's gallery! I think my favorite part is actually the backroom with the cluttered desk and listening device. And I love that you included the quotes. They really add some itensityto the presentation Those beautiful coins really belong into an gallery or museum Had so many of them as a kid but they were all lost. It's one of the classic parts that was/is better than everything we have today in its place. Quote
A_Goodman Posted Monday at 07:33 PM Posted Monday at 07:33 PM The build looks awesome and immediately recognizable! Plus that Luthen is absolutely perfect Quote
